121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CUSTOM KNC TITAN FIRMWARE! based off KNC's v2.00 on: August 29, 2016, 02:37:45 PM
i just opened my fresh titans, they have firmware 2.02 out of the box, and just bought Your licences, so it wont be problem with upgrade?

My firmware is only officially tested w/ the upgrade path from KNC 2.00 -> my firmware.
Its not been tested w/ knc2.02 installed first, this is largely impractical to do since they didnt even release a full SD card 2.02 image. Nor did they release an upgrade package. In fact, only I have released an upgrade package from KNC 2.00 -> 2.02 changes to work in my custom firmware.
KNC's 2.02 had very little changes to 2.00, I dont see why my firmware couldnt upgarde v2.02 fine.
Searing are you saying your KNC 2.02 (that came on your new Titans) upgraded to my firmware just fine? If so, great =) That further reinforces that my firmware should upgrade KNC 2.02 just fine.

Yeah the liquidation Titans came with 2.02 and upgraded ok. In my case anyway.

Thats good, but now 2 people who got titans from them are claiming my firmware isnt working right with them. Weird.

123  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone happen to know if RX480 & HD5870 fans are interchangeable? on: August 15, 2016, 12:19:14 AM
Doubtfull, unless they are from the same brand same series.
It's not a "card model" issue as a general rule, it is a "card MANUFACTURER" issue normally.

Even within the SAME manufacturer the fans will normally have changed quite a bit over THAT many generations.

The fan connections might fit, there's only 2 or 3 of those in common usage on GPU cards.

Hrm.... well many reference 5000 and 6000 series cards use the same blower fan.... was wondering if it would happen to work w/ blower fan on newer reference 480's ....
124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Anyone happen to know if RX480 & HD5870 fans are interchangeable? on: August 13, 2016, 10:42:17 PM
I was just wondering if the sizes are physically similar enough to allow them to be swapped, more specifically a 5870 fan -> RX 480
Also, if the fan connectors are identical?

Thanks

I know a few of you have purchased it in the past and sincerely thank you for your business and support!

Have fun w/ your new Titans guys!!! =)

So is running the official "mist" wallet w/ rejecting the DAO fork the same thing as ETC?

I would run this: https://github.com/ethereumclassic

Check the blocks between the two to compare if you are on the right chain.

Problem is I cant find windows builds anywhere =( ... are there any?

Not great ? Who cares. The Titan will probably turn out to be the miner with the longest period of profitability ever.
Seriously, how long did you make money with your AntMiner S1 … 9 machines ? Jupiter or Neptune ?

The quest for perfection has been the bane of miner manufactures forever. The key is to get something that works to market as quickly as possible. I think, for example, that  SP Tech probably died because they over engineered their products.
Not going to do it. They're actually not bad, just could use some tweaks in V2.0 to never really fail.

They fell into an interesting niche: Everyone else who tried to make a scrypt ASIC pretty much imploded out of the gate. I still think it's the very dynamic power requirements of the cores, unlike SHA things are all over the planet in there and the competing and interlaced power requirements causes your control circuits to ring, fall over, etc.

But for whatever reason they stumbled on the magic unicorn.

Magic unicorn ... yeahp, thats a lil bit how I feel bout the Titan lol!
It was well beyond its time as far as performance / power usage efficiency goes. Not to mention even noise level!
Sure, they may have cheaped on things quite a bit but ... it works a long as you treat it right and maintain it. Also, them cutting corners on firmware ... allowed much room for improvement .. hence all the things I've been able to improve upon the software side, which has been a really fun and rewarding project!

It sill amazes me that a chip giant like innosilicon ... failed miserably w/ meeting their specs on the A4!!! ... KNC nailed it for the Titan!! Not to mention the die shrink or 2 between them... even more props to KNC!
Now only if KNC had an on die temp thermistor LOL!
If KNC had designed the PCB's better .. Id even bet the ASIC itself could be clocked considerably higher.
Anyways, eitherway, the Titan is amazing for what it is at this point in time =)

I'm fortunate I bought one when I did, it was kinda a spur of the moment purchase from a mining buddy. LOL!
130  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 17, 2016, 06:50:38 PM
Folks here know exactly what their worth  Sad

Well, that sounds like it should be true, but it isn't. No one knows what is going to happen to LTC difficulty and prices in the future. Titans have been profitable from day 1, and will probably continue to be. Mining with a Titan is still probably the most cost effective way of generating BTC income via mining and the Titan lifecycle looks set to beat any other mining equipment past, present or future.

True that!
Although, scrypt hashrate has increased a decent amount past few weeks(perhaps A4's or perhaps the ASICs which coinhop are comin back on litecoin chain). When A4 indeed does come out mass quantities, Titans will be worth a lot less ... not because they are more effecient(by a bit) but because the sheer hashrate which will be introduced.
And
LTC has been on a steady price decline(vs BTC) the last year. So ... who knows...

In the end, crypto / mining is all a gamble anyways =)

So, I take it the price of S9 hasnt been corrected for halving yet? ... looks outrageously overpriced...

Hi, i have a problem with some cubes; strangelly, they suddenly appear a message that sais "Dies flagged for bypass of health checking: 3:1 3:2 3:3 4:1 6:1" and theese dies are not hashing and i can do nothing to fix it (reboot, change the controller, change the psu, change config...). Here is summer, but i have them with a low configuration to mantain them below 70-75ºC, so i don't think it could be because it is too hot. Here is a pic:

PS: I'm using GenTarkin 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 (i tryed both)

http://i68.tinypic.com/2moceb4.jpg

I am worried about theese cubes...

I had exactly the same thing with GenTarkin software.
Better use  Original KNC software with the same volts.

I did this and it is no problem any more. When i  replace the memory card to GenTarkin software ,  the problem is back.

Interesting.... Im going to guess you have dies that eventually stop hashing over time w/ stock firmware?

No, they are selected  cubes  which has never been a problem with hashing at default settings.

Odd ... well, unless there is some unknown bug in my firmware which triggers erroneous die resets, those cubes most likely do have some sort of issue going on.  Afterall, your cubes may be one of those that after many upon many software resets the dies come back just fine. There are a small number of Titans which act like this. I guess it could be due to faulty pool work / connection problems too.
My firmware uses the same cube/die problem detection code(die amp threshold), it just handles the situation way differently then stock firmware.
Anywho, log files would give an insight as to whats really going on.

This is happening because those particular dies are so unstable in any given point in time that multiple attempts were taken to get them hashing again through the form of soft / hard resets done by my firmware.
In short it means those dies are unstable and my firmware will no longer try to bring them back online to prevent bfgminer from constantly restarting.

The stock firmware will do the same thing repeatedly w/ no positive results - soft resets to infinity. While it doesnt cause bfgminer to restart constantly it can severely hamper mining performance.

You can attempt to lower the clocks on those dies and up the volts(which is stock already and I wouldnt recommend going any higher). Also, like AmDD stated, it may be an overheating issue of those dies and its causing them to become unstable, so reapplying therm paste may do the trick.   Theres no way to tell the actual temps of the dies on these Titans.

Also, if you want you can save the log files and email them to me via my website.
Lastly, hitting "CLEAR" will unflag those dies and next time bfgminer runs it will retest them.

136  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hacking KNC Neptune / Jupiter / Titan miners back to life. Why not? on: July 12, 2016, 02:31:00 AM
Nice job! Yes, the rubber heat transfer things get yucky, I can clean them with isopropyl. Remember to remove all the heat sink crap, even a crumb can press into the chip and break a die.... I use 95% isopropyl.

I like the heat sinks on the PSUs. Beautiful work....

plenty dirty my cubes weren't they Smiley Likely MOST of my gain of 35mh on 700mh setup was due to the lack of dirt imho.

Then again not messing with the titans seems to work best in my case, but live an learn need to blow them out every 4 months or so etc

But man that 3000 rpm fan is great.....with the heatsinks ...big drop in heat....it is 88F in my basement humid as heck heat index over 100F

and my dies are hottest one is at 74c most are in 60c range yet ...lol Smiley For a miner that knc told me was 'supposed' to run in the 75c to 90c range
and could run to 100c ok...(yeah they really really wanted to justify overclocking to 325 at -0.366 setting in a big way not to RMA the beast)

it is a dang miracle imho from what I was doing to this poor abused group of Titans the last 22 months Smiley (ack! titan abuse)

anyway so far so good

likely to get MUCH better as I replace all the psu's with the 2560 watt dual psu hack and 15 awg wire to the cubes....ie NO ADAPTER NEEDED soldered at the other end
and cool to the touch. Less fail points. Also with the Gen Tarkin software set at 90c failure on the dc/dc's (gonna be damn hard to get there from 74c top end now in this
weather) I figure I'm covered.

Before ...when titans were dirty as hell and not repasted I was runnning 85c to 90c and the poor gen tarkin software was a toggling stuff up down all over the place
when it was over like 80F in the basement

now it is like 'meh' no issue with at worse 60/70c dies on a regular cool no humidity at say 78F in the basement with the Titans going ..heck most dc/dc's are in the
55c to 65c range...my hottest one is 71c or so lol Smiley

looks likely with these hacks we can extend these puppies for years yet w/o them going doorstop (knock wood)

FYI, you should replace dies w/ DCDC's for every time you mention temperature of dies. In truth, we dont know the temperatures of the dies. The temperatures shown are just the temps of the DCDC's

I know. But every Bridge Board I have fixed came with a Rpi that was dead shorted on the CPU. Those things are garbage for 24*7, they should have stuck with the beaglebones. So what we really should do is just port the Titan code over to the BB. Which I would do but I keep being too lame to finish it.

I don't mind the work or bitcoin, but I would prefer if people never had the problem in the first place and could mine like hell. :-)

Interesting, Ive had many pi's over the years. Not one single issue.

Original MSRP: $5000
Current Value: $0

This is how all crypto-mining ASICs ultimately end up.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: July 11, 2016, 11:09:44 PM
Question...

Would anyone find it useful to have a checkbox in SYSTEM tab something to the effect of "boost rpi performance"
It would apply a mild OC to the pi that *should* work on all pi's the Titan uses.
Ive noticed w/ the rpi @ 1ghz vs stock and a few other items OC'd ... the CPU is not always pegged at 100% when Titan is mining, like stock is.
Given that blowing the RPI Cpu will result in the bridge board blowing I would say not a great idea. :-)

the CPU on the rpi can, in most cases, hit 950mhz w/o even a voltage bump. Its when people start crammin a ton of voltage at rpi's CPU that it dies.
But thats cool =) , less work for me. Ive been running pi @ 1ghz w/o issue for 3/4 a year now.
140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hacking KNC Neptune / Jupiter / Titan miners back to life. Why not? on: July 11, 2016, 06:12:50 PM
Nice results! =)
Id probably tinker w/ my Titan but its hosted up in Alaska. My buddy up there blows the cubes out w/ an air compressor every few months. Completely stock configuration. Been running perfect since he received the Titan new back in 2014 , well there was one time where the PSU side of one cable melted ...but that was due to a crappy connection on modular PSU cables =/
The cubes themselves show no signs of heat wear on their power ports.
