Without starting a new topic ... figured I would ask here as well, what should I expect from 2x 7870xt?
Im currently getting about 27mh that shows in ethminer. The nicehash is showing about 33mh on average for the last 6hrs at least.

They are clocked at 1050/1575
*also, whats more important in mining ETH ... gpu or vram clock?

This sound bout right?

GenTarkin, in november (30/11) I've purchased your 0.99e firmware on ebay via bitcoinlasvegas.net. It works great on my Titan, no more babysitting for it Cool

A few days ago, I sent to you an e-mail to have access to your new firmware on the new shop but I didn't receive your answer. I know that I am an "unverified customer" and I read the problems with bitcoinlasvegas and you, but I would know if you can give access to the new firmware to the customers in the same situation.

Thanks for you great work !

Please send me PM indicating what address you sent the email to and what address you sent from. I will see if I received it. Thanks

And yes, what hawkfish said ... applies.
223  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: ETH pool that pays out in BTC? on: March 10, 2016, 06:10:44 PM
The Eth pool at the NiceHash pay out in Bitcoin. But the price is lower than if you mine with other pools. That is the price to pay.

Thanks for the tip! =)
224  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / ETH pool that pays out in BTC? on: March 10, 2016, 03:47:47 PM
Just wanted to see if there are any....

All I know of is weipool.org
Im currently mining there because of the btc payouts. Their hashrate is kinda low tho, was wondering if there were any bigger pools that offer such option?
225  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CUSTOM KNC TITAN FIRMWARE! based off KNC's v2.00 on: March 09, 2016, 08:29:23 PM
Have been running for 30 hours now on the new firmware, not particularly happy with it, bfgminer shuts down every 4 hours, nicehash reported down time 20min, then 30 min.

Had to downgrade back to 0.99e version for now.

Sorry to hear, but yeah, like the Energy Saver FAQ states, there can be lots of instability while tuning is taking place.
Furthermore, if per die settings need to be changed to maintain stability after tuning ...then those are easily user changeable, just like its always been =)

(the above assumes you even ran Energy Saver, if you didnt and suddenly experiencing issues then your cubes have other issues.)

If you would like, u can create a logfile and email it to gentarkincustomtitan@gmail.com I can give it a look and see if theres any hints as to what actually is going on.

GenTarkin's Mod ~ Custom KNC Titan firmware v1.0.2 RELEASE NOTES - maintenance release

-Fixed an issue in regards to user specified api-allow settings in "manual edit" mode. Its a bug thats been around since v99e and someone just pointed out to me. Basically, the "API readonly checkbox" was overriding any user specified settings for the api-allow entry. Now, when user changes this line the "API read only checkbox" setting is ignored until the api-allow line is restored to its original setting OR its removed entirely.

-Activation: due to an unforseen situation regarding activation, the manual method of reactivation was not working as intended. This is now fixed. For any miner you try to reactivate w/ its respective(matching license) it should reactivate w/o issue now.</li>

note: The updated download file is found in your account if you purchased the "FULL COPY"

228  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Mining history... some odd avalon boards on: March 09, 2016, 01:44:27 AM
man ... the good ole days, when ASIC prices were decent... LOL!
I loved my avy1 - b2 ... most profitable ever, regret not buying more. Such a solid machine, and a tank too. I was actually kinda sad when I sold it ... never felt that way bout any other miner since.

Now all asic mining is, is the combination of a bunch of the cheapest possible components on the verge of catching on fire and far too overpriced.

POLL:
Based off of ... I believe lightfoot's recommendation ...
For my next release, who would find a "cable / connector life saver" option valuable?
Basically it would be an algorithm to guestimate how much power is being drawn through each PSU cable assuming the Y connector & 2 PSU cables are present, per cube.
The algo would then take into account current draw per DCDC & overall watts & possibly even temps guestimated by the cube and then drop the clocks down until the power usage would be below 140-150w per cable coming off the cube.
This would of course make the Titan slower but far less risk of burning cables.

I really dont know how valuable such an option will ultimately be, because I know most miners just want to push these things as hard as they will go and when stuff does burn up, just replace and move on.
So, may be a lot of work for nothing really. But its an interesting idea =P

I have noticed that when multiple dies fail at the same time that this is a great signal that there is a power problem. I have alarms set when mh/s drops below a certain level I can manually monitor the advanced page. On the last alarm 2 dies failed at the same time, on the same cube and your firmware soft restarted them. A few hours later the whole cube failed because the psu shutdown so I checked the cube and discovered the fried pcie connector.  And this PCIE was seriously burnt, there wasn't much left of it, the male/female were melted/fused together, I needed pliers to separate them.  In this case restarting the dies earlier certainly didn't help.

So maybe some logic that when 2 or more dies fail at the same time just shut the whole cube down till it is cold started or rebooted.  I don't know if or how often this would generate false alarms, but I've never noticed 2 dies failing at the same time except in this instance.

Unless that exact situation can be reproduced more than a few times .... it could have been just coincidence at this point =(
Even then, 2 dies could go down around the same time and there not be any power issue at all. Ive witnessed it several times on my Titan.
But, a definite pattern of many different miners would have to prove this is the case before coding this into the firmware.

I bet,  making the Y connectors into 3 way Y connectors would definitely drop the strain on the ATX cables =)
That would drop the watts per cable down to about 110w.

I suppose. However when someone puts a cube on your doorstep that did this:

You wonder if that cube plug is just a limiting factor.

Ultimately it's up to everyone to do what is best in their circumstances. :-)

Yeahp, in that case it is the plug, I think overall the plug / connector is at a max of sorts too... Molex designates that specific PCie 6pin connector to only be able to handle 12amps. We are pulling more than double through it.

Well, these two units are currently running approximately one (1) inch away from each other, so the environment is pretty constant. The difference between the two is the difference between an average DC-DC temp of

ASIC slot   Temperature   DC/DC avg temp   Clock   Type
1   ---   ---   ---   OFF
2   32.5 ℃   47.4 ℃   225 MHz   TI
3   ---   ---   ---   OFF
4   ---   ---   ---   OFF
5   ---   ---   ---   OFF
6   41 ℃   62.0 ℃   275 MHz   TI

Which is pretty big for that extra 10mh.

You mentioned that your power supply cables melted at least once, and I just saw a picture of a guy's power supply that basically started to set fire to his house. Glad his house did not burn down, but the problem was the same, power supply cables melted. Fixing melted units that blow the PCB connectors is a real bear and I just got a Neptune in that had a blown power cable that led to a short on pin 6 (this time to the .7 line which allows it to work, but very weird) which proves board burns can damage other Neptunes and Titans due to the lack of signal isolation on the controllers and/or the units.

Perhaps a good code release would be a "do not pull more than X watts from the supply lines" so people could put in 180 to be nice and comfortable up to 260+ if they really want to see things go foom or something. As always I stand by to fix the blown cubes, but it would be better if they didn't blow in the first place.

That may be doable, but it requires extremely accurate testing of the DCDC power draw under a bunch of different settings & temperatures. Gathering that data would be the challenge.
Also, way more power gets drawn through these connectors than 180 or even 260w ... @ 325mhz w/ slightly than lower factory voltages ... about 330w is drawn through that poor 6pin connector on Titan side =(
Thats why they went with the Y adapters so each 6 wire cable was at about 150-170w.
I suspect many PSU's breakout panels for their modular connectors arent rated for that type of current @ 12v ... which is where my PSU's cables started discoloring and getting real hot and eventually melting the PSU breakout panel connectors.
I suspect a non modular PSU would fair better. But cant find high effeciency nonmodular high watt ATX PSU's anymore it seems =/
Thats why I was contemplating going w/ the server PSU's w/ the breakout boards made by users on this forum... they are probably much better quality than the breakout boards on modular PSU's.

I bet,  making the Y connectors into 3 way Y connectors would definitely drop the strain on the ATX cables =)
That would drop the watts per cable down to about 110w.

Some hard data for you Titan users: Moral: These things were built to hash at 60mh, going faster makes miner sad.

I'm running two miners here, one is a stock reference one running at 275mhz, the other is a client's repaired one (with bypass wires) running at 225mhz. Note the power, DC-DC temp difference, and other differences. It's a lot of extra oomph to get that magical extra 10mh....

ASIC 2 (Speed 225mhz)
Temp : 31.0 °C
Power : 187.445 W

DC/DC   Voltage (V)   Current (A)   Power (W)   Temperature (°C)
0   0.7878   28.781222.674   47.500
1   0.7874   29.1875   22.982   46.900
2   0.7886   29.4062   23.190   45.900
3   0.7883   29.9062   23.575   45.300
4   0.7920   30.0938   23.834   44.100
5   0.7922   29.3438   23.246   43.900
6   0.7892   30.3750   23.972   43.900
7   0.7892   30.3750   23.972   45.100

ASIC 6 (275mhz)
Temp : 38.5 °C
Power : 232.520 W

DC/DC   Voltage (V)   Current (A)   Power (W)   Temperature (°C)
0   0.7858   36.5000   28.682   61.600
1   0.7863   36.5625   28.749   63.400
2   0.7819   36.8750   28.833   61.400
3   0.7841   36.9375   28.963   60.400
4   0.7836   37.3125   29.238   55.900
5   0.7847   37.9375   29.770   55.700
6   0.7826   37.3125   29.201   57.700
7   0.7861   37.0000   29.086   57.100

 KNC 0:       | 59.00/61.52/61.57Mh/s | A:315 R:1+0(.32%) HW: 64/.59%
 KNC 1:       | 71.02/72.75/72.66Mh/s | A:385 R:2+0(.52%) HW: 73/.57%

I would recommend slowing down to 60mh total. That is what these were designed for.

I think more importantly it comes down to what temperatures the environment, wires, dies & DCDC's are running at.
My Titan has been running 325mhz no issues up in alaska for almost 1.5years(since it arrived sometime in '14).
The DCDC's are rated officially up to 40A w/ a long life if you keep at least some airflow on them and around 80-90C max temp.
But, some people run these things OVER 40A and OVER 100C ... in the average case ... those DCDC's are not gonna last long. There may be some exceptions, but on average they will die prematurely.

My DCDC's on average are between 38-42A, but at temps below 70C ... which is well below the thresholds set forth in the specsheet for the DCDC's
238  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: March 05, 2016, 07:33:18 PM
So, I have been running v1.0.0 for over 48 hours. It took awhile to complete auto-tuning but I am impressed, it lowered power consumption by 25-30 watts and has been running stable. It's time to get another license Smiley Nice background BTW  Wink

Awesome =) ... yeah and if after the tuning you know of some dies that may have not been tuned as accurately as perhaps ur hand tuning was previously then you can change the voltages of course back for those dies =)

LOL, thanks for the background compliment. What funny is that was initially a joke in one of my test builds. I ended up actually really liking it, it blends in well.... and creates an almost serene feeling =) So, I just stuck with it.

The voltages just cant be messed w/ while tuning is in progress (thats why I greyed everything out).

Also, if you ever decide to lower your clockspeeds, u can run the tuning again and it will find optimal voltages for those new speeds.

The energy savings may be even greater then shown on the page. The page is just an estimation. The DCDC's really have a sharp tipping point in effeciency when they are running over their rated current capacity.
So, if they are running below 40A, they will be much more effecient then running over say 42A. My energy consumption estimation doesnt take into account this sharp effeciency curb. That would require a decent amount of code, almost like a mapping table based off of people running actual effeciency measurements at currents over 40A (this information isnt available in the spec sheet from manufacturer.)
Also, effeciency is improved a bit when the DCDC's run cooler.
239  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: March 05, 2016, 01:14:10 AM
That is so cool! I wonder if it can fix a titan with a mumbling die.

Describe mumbling....
The die pulls power, but throws errors from time to time on the die that shuts down either the die or the die next to it as well. Fixed by cycling the miner, but then it comes back. Sometimes you see the current on the supplies drop to zero.

I don't have a unit now that does this, but did awhile back.

Other annoyances include dies that hash fine for awhile, then the supplies drop to zero. Rebooting the cube fixes it, sometimes dropping the supplies to zero does so as well. Also an odd one, I had a unit that once had a power supply simply disappear. Because I was running it at 200mhz the other supply handled the load fine but it was odd.

These are the days of our lives. :-)

If its not due to a hardware failure then this is one of the things my firmware has automated from day 1 - handling "sleeping dies" or as you put it "mumbling dies"
