Agreed, Dgex is dominating the forum right now with a lot of negativity, perhaps we should move this over to the trading forum and focus on the code release.

+1 vote for keeping this thread as technical and positive as possible.

Please take drama (dgex, partial source release, cries of unfairness, cries of under appreciation, discussions of ripple, etc, etc) to an appropriate area of http://nextcoin.org.

RickyJames's open letters should stay. Those are entertaining.  Grin

Haha, yes, RickyJames's can definitely stay!

DGEX is a business and they can charge anything they want.  BUT accepting deposits under the pretense of a 0% withdrawal fee and then changing that to a 1.2% withdrawal fee after the deposits have been received and with no notice is just WRONG.

1483  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 03, 2014, 03:37:19 PM
The 1.2% (1.4% currently) NXT withdrawal fee at DGEX is planned to be lowered considerably or removed altogether when the network has stabilized and the exchange has recovered its 800 000 NXT losses arising from the first month of operations when approx. 20000 payments were processed in alpha status network, unstable API, and beta status house software.

Being the pioneer has its costs. Had you waited a month until any competitor has their exchange up, the value of NXT nor its adoption would not be where it stands now, and massive profits that numerous traders have made with their NXT would not have materialized. Personally I would be inclined to think 1.4% is a miniscule cost for everything that the quick launch of DGEX and nextcoin.org has given the public, but well that's just me.

I think that you have every right to charge whatever you want.  However, you shouldn't justify temporary price increases as a way to cover operating losses.  You should always keep the fees consistent or people won't trust your exchange.  Regardless, another exchange will become the leader at your current fee structure.

Is anyone going to use Arbitrary Messages within next 2 weeks? It seems to me that without a client that supports this feature we don't need AM.

I realy do respect your work sir, but without a client you better stop loosing your time here.

No one will bother using API strings etc... no client = no product.

and yes eMunie is a finished product that will blow all your efforts away just becaus you will always be second!

Stop trolling.  eMu is controlled and developed by one person, Dan, who will keep the project closed source for at least a year.  It's not decentralized and new eMu can be created on a whim without any knowledge as to why or how.  The client is going to be delayed for at least another month or two, at which time Nxt will have a # of functional clients.
1485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 02, 2014, 06:27:38 PM

This depends on how fast nexern will release the client. Which in turn depends on if we can pay him for vacation.

I have a couple 100k Nxt waiting for nexern client to be released.  Regardless, competition is always a good thing in my opinion.
1486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 01, 2014, 11:59:01 PM
What about the nextern-holiday-fund? Is there someone organazing it so he can work on the client full time?
C'mon bitchizzz

I have asked several stakeholders to lead a fund-raising but they do not seem to be interested. I would suggest nextern to sell his full-feature client instead of making it free. That would give him quite a sum for his work.

Nxt won't succeed without a full functioning, user friendly client. I hope everyone is aware of this.
+100

If NXT is going to succeed, it needs mass adoption.
I've got some IT background, but I've had a steep learning curve to climb over the last 10 days just to get the client up and running.

There is no way that the average Facebook/email/Candycrush user is going to get into NXT if they have to write their own .bat files.
And without a mass adoption, NXT is never going to be any more than a really amazing ALT-currency, not the only currency.

In summary:
one-click client = NXT success.

Then you will like nexern's client.
1487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [eMunie] eMunie Tech & General Q&A Thread - Get Involved on: January 01, 2014, 11:57:24 PM

Assume I have 1000 eMu that cost me $100 @ $0.1 each and I was an early adopter.  All being well, eMunie will be a great success and there will be a lot of demand, but also assume that over time a nice easy uptrend in value is attained, and that 5% over that first year is met.

My 1000 eMu at the end of the 1st year is now worth $105 ($0.105 per eMu), not a great increase, supply inflation however due to huge demand is 1000% over the year.  New supply eMu is roughly split 50:50 between balance holders and hatchers as reward for clearing transactions.  I am a balance holder, so balance holders over the year will see a 500% increase in the amount of eMu they hold.

I'm now holding 5000 eMu @ $0.105 which equals $525, a nice ROI while at the same time giving a predictable, stable value of each unit.

Some might say that 1000% inflation is too large, but I pose these 2 arguments to counter that position:

All of this sounds good in theory, and I applaud your efforts in trying to combat the volatility that we've seen in digital currencies.  But I'm wondering in the real world how soundproof is this algorithm.   Can artificial demand be introduced to inflate the supply?  What about when demand severely dries up, are EmU taken away or does money creation stop?  Something just doesn't sit right with a potentially 'unlimited' money supply ... makes me think of central banks and money printing.

Is this money creation throttled in some way or is it a direct 1:1 relationship?

While no one likes the ups/downs and wild price swings, the more it becomes adopted the less volatility you will have.  I personally would prefer the price swings with a knowable supply amount.

When demand stops, creation of new eMu stops.

When demand stops, eMu is dead.

I know a couple stakeholders that have given 100k+ Nxt to nexern. One has set aside 250k for when the client is finished.  I personally gave him 50k Nxt and plan to give him more when the client is done.  I'm not a stakeholder by the way.

But I really do believe that some kind of hooks for a 2 factor authorization should be built into the code for transfers above a certain amount.

This makes sense

Edit: A thief could always transfer smaller amounts under the threshold....

How about this - you can pay a fee to tell the blockchain that no further withdrawals are to be accepted from this account for all future times, and upon payment of the fee you register a second 50+ character password that can be used in the future to inform the blockchain to reauthorize withdrawals from the subject account.

We gotta do something here.  There are multiple reports of people having their NXT wallets emptied when they didn't want it to be during the low volume alpha / beta operations shakedown of NXT.  We have to do more that just say, "Well, if you used a strong password, it wasn't hacked by brute force".

I doubt any of these report is actually true since when they are all silent when further proofs and information are requested. Remember that any hostile entity would have an incentive to slur NXT's security. Surely we want to improve user's experience so it would be good to brainstorm but the conception that current implementation is of poor security needs to be disapproved.

Yeah, these posts are just trolls, if you have a 35 character random password, you are not getting hacked.

Hey CfB... would really like your opinion on my concerns earlier:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4198196;topicseen#msg4198196

...I have had my wallet unlocked non-stop (aside from downtime from attacks) for a FULL month until today...

The issue u r talking about belongs to client side. I don't have opinion on that, sorry.

I see... hopefully that kick-ass client that is in the works has that feature then.  thnx   Smiley

When I forge, I start java client, login via web browser, then close browser and keep java cmd open.  This will allow you to continue forging without having your wallet open in a browser.

YOU MADE MY DAY!!!  Grin

So... how are you sure you are still forging?  I mean... how do you check to see that you are still forging?

thnx   Smiley

I just check it occasionally (log in), I've been up and running 0.4.7e for a while now with no issues. I also use a short password for an account with no Nxt just to log in real quick and check if the block chain is up to date.  As long as you leave your account unlocked when you close the browser, you will continue to forge.

then maybe you'd want to listen to their concerns.
And do exctaly what in decentalized system? U're concerned so stay sway. It's very important in investor's career to fully understand what's going on and predict future.

For a currency to succeed, it needs to be used and accepted by lots and lots and lots of people. If you own NxT, it's in your best interest to listen to potential investors' concerns. Your mentality "If you don't like this, then stay away" is not gonna fly in the long run if you want this currency to succeed.

You may be fooling yourself if you believe you're fighting for the "good of nxt", but your last dozen or so posts have been focused not on the distribution of coins, but rather how much the initial investors have made. This sends a clear signal to everyone that a) you're angry you missed a good opportunity and b) you're simply trying to spread FUD to lower the price.

Everyone here wants the coins to be spread. In fact, if you look at the coinmarketcap.com, you'll see that NXT has one of the highest trading volumes of all the coins, so I'd say we're doing okay. We can always do better, but it's not the doom-and-gloom you make it out to be.

I'm just somebody that would like to invest a few thousand dollars worth into this coin. But by doing the math on the growth in the last 2 months, and also understanding that all 1 billion coins have already been generated, the 600,000% price differential to original IPO investment is concerning to me. At these levels, this coin's name should be named GreedCoin. I feel bad for the few that bought this coin at such a premium without doing the math themselves. I hope these people aren't defending the price as a way to hold on to a foolish/bubbly buy. I think other potential serious investors probably have the same mentality as me, and yes, we will just patiently wait and see for the price to correct itself. And if it doesn't...

Once the source is released, perhaps someone else will come up with a better distribution scheme. And if the source isn't released, then what do we have?

How is this coin different from the central banks today, that can just print billions of dollars and distribute it to the few lucky ones born into the family (or lucky to have seen the bitcoin forum post at the time)? And these bankers then throw bounties at the population, business loans, free money, that eagerly will work hard for these these printed dollars, dollars that the original stakeholder didn't work hard for? 1 Billion coins, created from thin  air, owned by the few. Throwing these coins around like water for bounties, translations, development efforts.

Centralization in disguise of decentralization. Scary thought. I'm out. Be back tomorrow.

Even trolls need sleep.

I totally agree, I really don't care what the marketcap says each Nxt is worth, I'm way more excited to see the high trading volume.  It's amazing for a currency only a few weeks old.  The price per Nxt will increase over time, took BTC several years of ups and downs to get where it is today.
1495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 28, 2013, 08:02:20 PM

ahh, yes, the hive. it's a personal project i start to built as soon the asset exchange is done.
since it is just a complex concept atm, the best is first to start coding and then showing a
prototype. this way the advanced ideas and features it could add to nxt are more understandable.

So... how many NXT per share are we looking at?   Wink

no shares, it is (sorry for that ;-) just a pure profit tool but a very advanced one.
and if possible and created, a tool to compete against major player within the global
finance/stock market. they have money, direct market access and much deeper info
sources. nxt, hopefully soon the hive. would be interesting to see what happend if we
enter thier market this time.  Grin

but as said, look at this what it is atm, vaporware.

Keep up the awesome work, we are lucky to have you on dev team.

man now its time to double down and buy some more of this

Wow, that is seriously awesome.

Jean Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise....  Cheesy  I had to do it...it was just too tempting

Edit: USS Nxterprise boldly go where no Crypto has gone before.
In a hindsight, I have really picked up an appropriate pseudonym. I never imagined I will make the progress from a forum Newbie to a Captain that fast.

I hereby appoint CfB as my First Officer.

Now that the USS NRS Enterprise has been making successful test flights, we have to get ready for our first trip outside the solar system, scheduled for Jan 03.

I am now proof-reading the code for any visible bugs. The memory leak has been fixed and I hope version 0.4.8 should have lower memory consumption and not require periodic restart. Next, there are some minor thread safety bugs I noticed that I will fix. I can also think of some optimization in the peer networking code, right now we create a lot of temporary byte[] and char[] that put extra load on the garbage collector and increase the memory usage too, but this is not urgent.

I need to do some refactoring of the code, because now everything is in one huge file. The parts that are to remain closed source will have to be factored out, as much as possible, in separate classes, so that they can be distributed in compiled form, still allowing one to work on the base open source part without having the complete source.

I also need to pick up a repository where we should host the source code, and prepare it for the Jan 03 launch. Probably github, but I need to investigate the alternatives.

Good to have you on board!  I highly recommend Github as a repository, well known and respected with the largest user base.  Keep up the good work.

Got it. thanks
