341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I thought my wiki account was grandfathered regarding the anti-spam measures... on: April 19, 2013, 02:35:54 AM
I realized i wasn't allowed to edit the wiki anymore when i noticed a typo, but i'm not gonna pay to fix other people's typos... :\
342  Economy / Service Discussion / I thought my wiki account was grandfathered regarding the anti-spam measures... on: April 18, 2013, 11:32:26 PM
My account at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/ was created long before the paid anti-spam system was put in place, i could swear old accounts like mine that were in good standing had been grandfathered, but it seems it isn't...am i remembering things wrong or was there a decision to ungrandfather old accounts?
343  Economy / Speculation / Re: MtGox will change their trading rules today, right? on: April 18, 2013, 11:16:25 PM
Wasn't Gox supposed to ditch its western users at some point in time?
AFAIK they're only gonna be handing over their US users to their new partner, Coinlab...i could be wrong though...
344  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: if fiat money is bad, we could escape them easily even before bitcoin on: April 18, 2013, 02:58:49 AM
there is only so much gold and there are only so many BTC, the difference is BTC is easy to transport and trade. gold is heavy and has to be shipped.
We actually know for certain how many BTC there is, while with gold it's only a guess; and people are already talking about plans to mine space rocks for even more than that guess...
345  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: An idea to secure online platforms on: April 17, 2013, 09:32:25 PM
Ok, there is one disadvantage, if you want to send those coins to someone else, you will have to wait two times for transaction.
But I still think it would be a pretty strong optional security feature, there are a lot of people that are satisfied with sending the coints to some fixed adresses.
It also reduces the usefulness of online wallets a lot. I mean, if you can't send money to anyone else, even people on the same service, it's almost like your online wallet isn't online at all, but on a flash drive cleverly hidden somewhere in your kitchen...
346  Economy / Speculation / Re: MtGox will change their trading rules today, right? on: April 17, 2013, 04:09:58 PM
If this is implemented

What do you mean, "if"?
Some people said that it isn't put in place yet, and it is already the 17th...
347  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question for bitcoin wallet client? on: April 17, 2013, 04:06:18 PM
Actually, unless everyone never moved their money out of their wallets, online or otherwise (or at most moved virtual bitcoins within a thirdparty's service, depending on how the service does it in the backend), there would still be the possibility of transaction fees.

Blocks would only really go empty if people stopped using Bitcoin entirely (using Bitcoin in name only, by having someone else other than the blockchain say who owns how much, obviously doesn't really count as using Bitcoin).
348  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is it so hard to get Bitcoins on: April 17, 2013, 03:59:24 PM
yes but where do I fund these, what funding options are there, how do I protect myself from not getting scammed.
"These" as in peer-to-peer? That means you go to a person that wants to sell their bitcoins. How you fund them? It depends on personal taste, but there are many that can be you can fund by handing over fiat notes...
349  Economy / Speculation / Re: MtGox will change their trading rules today, right? on: April 17, 2013, 03:29:56 PM
If this is implemented, people that want this behavior will have to setup a bot to keep polling on their balance and now not only will there be some processing required on Gox's side but it will also used up their bandwidth needlessly Sad

You guys posting out of format, i don't think you are getting anything, are you? (the OP says the script ignores posts that got anything more than just the address...)
351  Economy / Services / Re: Looking to deploy online backup service, need feedback. Free 20GB for your input on: April 17, 2013, 12:32:38 AM
How does your system handle files from one account being accessed by more than one computer at the same time?

Letting children play with weapons won't result in well behaved children, what you get is dangerous children that are even harder to teach good manners to.

Usually how long does it take to get the XRP after posting here? The offer is still up, right?
355  Economy / Goods / Re: UK Samsung Galaxy II, water damaged with 1BTC inside on: April 16, 2013, 10:33:12 PM
I've heard bathing in pure alcohol (not the watered down stuff people use for cleaning and stuff) overnight can somtimes do miracles to water damaged electronics...do it at your own risk though, i got no personal experience with that technique.
The rice thing originally quoted is not a joke, it really does work often.  The most important part about water damage is NOT TO EVEN TRY to turn the item on if it is off.  Turn it off, open it up, take the battery out and put the phone in rice with the covers off.  If you have tools, open it up as much as you can without breaking it.  (phones are delicate so really don't open it if you do not know how).

What i said was not a joke either. Hell, if i it was a joke, and it was obvious it was a joke, why would i put warnings and stuff?

357  Economy / Economics / Re: What Makes One Crypto-Currency Worth More Than Another on: April 16, 2013, 10:06:08 PM
It kinda overlaps a bit with some of the stuff you mentioned there, but one thing that have a big impact is people's expectation about the future value of the cryptocurrency.
358  Other / Off-topic / Re: Avalon unit arrived in a badly damaged condition. on: April 16, 2013, 09:13:30 PM
Horror of horrors. Truly a worst case scenario. Sorry about that man, hope you get a replacement in good time. I'd imagine that any spot fixes would be very difficult but I'm not a CE.
Worse case scenario would be if he didn't got it at all and the company didn't offer a replacement. This is unfortunate, but definitly not the worst possible thing.

I am little scared for the people who told that they took huge loans to purchase BTC  Shocked
In at the very most a month or so (probably much sooner) they should be able to at least fully pay the loan+interests back.
so how much did you borrow then? only highly experienced traders should be trading on margin on an asset like bitcoin.
I don't think you're quoting the right person...either that or you need to work on your reading comprehension...
