It's my understanding that Ripple is actually more of a distributed exchange than a cryptocoin; it doesn't matter much how much the XRP is worth, it is supposed to be just a temporary state between two different coins, and since the transfers are usually pretty quick, regardless of how much it is worth before and after, when you transfer money to someone, other than the transfer fee, there is no loss. You shouldn't be holding any more XRP than you really need.

I suggest placing it in the AltGr+B combination
Btw, you don't need gaming keyboard software, you can make custom keyboard mappings on Windows by using Microsoft's Keyboard Layout Creator; though it might have some small issues if your physical keyboard is foreign, like for example, with ABNT2 Brazilian keyboards there is one key the program doesn't acknowledge in the editor interface. And if i'm not mistaken, Linux allow for custom layout creation by simply editing some text file somwhere, but i could be wrong.

Distilled water is also somthing that might help. It doesn't conduct electricity anywhere nearly as much as regular water (all the little minerals and stuff on water are what make water conduct as much as we usually think water does). Though, that is for cleaning, it still needs drying afterwards.
For just drying, i've seen some people recomend you warm up the device (with an external source of heat, don't power it up just yet) to at most the temperature it gets while doing heavy processing and leaving it surrounded with silica gel thingies; though perhaps isopropyl might also do the trick (without extra heat, for safety reasons).

What would be necessary for someone be able to honestly describe their model publicly, without that reveal influencing the validity of the model, and with that person, and anyone else using that model, being able to profit at least as much as they would without the model being made public? In other words, is a profitable algorithm that takes into account not only it's own existence, but other people's knowledge about it's existence, possible at all? And what would such algorithm be like?

Free Speech > Nitpicks.
It's not about restricting free speech. Maybe not, but banning/deleting posts which you don't agree with, for whatever reason, is to be against freedom of expression. I can understand spam (as in, real spam,) and I abhor spam, but when someone has nothing to add to a conversation and yet wants to express that they are in agreement (thus cutting redundancy, i.e., Bill speaks his mind, Jane is in complete agreement because she was going to say the same thing, so instead of saying that same thing, she simply +1's), I don't feel it is up to a higher power (the mods and our beloved admin) to enforce a personal tick. I say this because I've never been bothered by +1, ^, "This", etc., especially when they're in favor of my posts Sure, we can force people to make detailed posts. But sometimes a +1 is all someone wants to get off their chest. Perhaps this is an effect of social media, however...it's easy to "Like" a post on Facebook or "thumb-up" a comment on YouTube, right? To meet in the middle, I'd propose a system in which users can vote up and vote down posts, if for nothing more than to eliminate the need for the +1 posts. There could also be a feature which auto-hides posts with a high amount of downvotes. Some forums got a "Thank you" feature, where if you like someone's post, you can just click on the link or button and your name gets added to the list of people thanking for that post. I would like that more than a voting system, feels more personal, and doesn't merge disagreements with agreements.

How about making the maximum font size for the whole post (including the username and stuff associated) be proportional to the character count?
edit: also rescale any images, like the avatar etc and pics posted inside, proportionally to the max fontsize cap
edit2: tags, links etc shouldn't be taken in consideration when counting chars though, too easy to cheat with stuff like that

Economy / Economics / What is the least you would buy for 1BTC?

I would like to know what is the cheapest thing you would be willing to part with 1 whole BTC for, in other words, how much is 1BTC worth for you in terms of stuff? Forget fiat and BTC's current price, how much is it worth for you?
ps: after a few replies i'll post my own, don't wanna influence what people think when answering.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We created a new Ripple Currency: The Favor (FAV)
|
on: April 19, 2013, 07:23:44 PM

IMO a centralized FAV with transferable "own you one"ship doesn't make sense (see the post by moocowpong1 for an example of an issue). Each individual and/or organization should be issuing their own FAVs whenever someone does them a favor, and those FAVs can only be "cashed out" by having the original issuer do you a favor. So in that example by moocowpong1, he does end up getting a POTUS-FAV, and Joe's balance of POTUS-FAVs remain unchanged after the transaction. The only way Joe could have a POTUS-FAV would be if either the president own him a favor directly, or if Joe buys a POTUS-FAV from someone else.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple Giveaway!
|

Hello Bitcoin Forum, We are the company behind the new Ripple open payment system. We are pleased to announce the first official XRP giveaway. To thank the Bitcoin community for their support and to encourage people to experiment with Ripple and provide feedback, we are targeting this giveaway to users of the Bitcoin Forum. Anyone whose Bitcoin Forum account was created before February 19, 2013, 18:45 UTC, is eligible to receive XRP. You may claim your XRP simply by posting your Ripple address in this thread. Please note that your replies will be processed by a script, so make sure that your post contains only your Ripple address. We are currently giving 20k XRP to anyone who claims. This amount will decrease over the course of the giveaway. We are giving to a limited number of people a day so it might be awhile after your post before you receive your XRP. By requesting XRP, you acknowledge and agree that the transfer thereof is entirely automatic and does not constitute a contract, warranty, or agreement of any kind between you and OpenCoin Inc. Please remember Ripple is still in early beta so expect bugs. Enjoy! OpenCoin Inc.
Post formatting Create a ripple account here https://ripple.com/client A Ripple address looks similar to a bitcoin address but begins with an "r". For example, our Ripple address is: r3kmLJN5D28dHuH8vZNUZpMC43pEHpaocV Your post should not contain any text besides the address and should have no special formatting. Posts which don't match this format will be skipped, and you'll have to post your address again to get XRP.
Rules Your Bitcoin Forum account must have been created before February 19, 2013, 18:45 UTC, in order to be eligible. Only one Ripple address per user, please. (All but the first valid address you post will be ignored). We will periodically post updates to the post below to indicate when XRP have been given. We will be limiting the amount of people we give to per day, and this amount may be adjusted, so please be patient as it may take some time for the script to get to your post. If you have any questions or concerns about this giveaway, or about Ripple in general, please don't hesitate to ask us either on this forum or ours. r9prqQHdERyeins6gcHYveErwzpcLgZyap I think it only works if your post contains your address and nothing else...
