1082  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Maximising MH/J on: July 16, 2011, 12:12:17 AM
Since you need network for mining you could ping the machine to see if it's running (not sure if the additional wattage used by the machine you're pinging from from time to time will average out more than what is consumed by the LEDs though)

The issue though is all it takes is one crazy person to fuck up the entire globe...

How many nukes do you need to pump water or similar cooling liquid across a significant percentage of the volume of a city sized asteroid for a lifetime?
1085  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: POLL: What's the *real* reason you ever got into Bitcoins? on: July 15, 2011, 02:53:59 AM
To purchase stuff that I never would waste money on otherwise.
That is what the Internet is for.
1086  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Patent Bitcoin Now! on: July 15, 2011, 01:23:35 AM
Making law enforcement treat users of the client as "pirates", issue takedown notices disrupting major sites etc.

I'm not saying that after all is done Bitcoin would be down for the count, but it would still be somthing i would rather not experience.
1087  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Patent Bitcoin Now! on: July 15, 2011, 01:08:46 AM
Using patent trolling and that DMCA shit would be an easy shortcut to attack Bitcoin...
1088  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Currency Symbol ฿ on: July 14, 2011, 09:34:50 PM
mm.. it is hard at that scale.
I tried with the hash at the base:
1.00

icon size at 16x16 comes out a little better:

What about switching it to a lower case b

Am i the only one that sees balls and erect penis there before seeing a hashb?

Actually, there are many sites out there that carry malicious payloads and attract potential victims with lures such as porn among other things

1091  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Global Standard Bank - the first Bitcoin bank? on: July 14, 2011, 03:39:38 AM
Some standard due-diligence questions:

  • "Global Standard Bank" is not listed with Canadian federal corporation search or Quebec corporation search.  Explain.

I think he said it's registred just as a number to have a soft start

1094  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [Scam Alert] Global Standard Bank - the first Bitcoin bank? on: July 13, 2011, 10:46:45 PM
Shouldn't the thread title be changed, at least until we have more than a suspicion ?
1095  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can you Jerry-Rig your Rig? on: July 13, 2011, 10:18:17 PM
like i said, you can't know what effect a change in the input will have in the output; the number you're guessing is part of the input, you can't just say you got an output without showing the inputs you used to get there
1096  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can you Jerry-Rig your Rig? on: July 13, 2011, 10:08:20 PM
The output of the hashing is unpredictable, you can't know what will change in the output if you change somthing in the input.

1098  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: donations on: July 13, 2011, 08:48:15 PM
I've had donations once in a while, but i find having an addy in my sig more useful for not having to reach for my wallet and copy/paste an address whenever i'm in a situation i want someone to know where to send money in the forum.
1099  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wow, this is Better than Bitcoins! on: July 13, 2011, 08:41:53 PM

The Internet is decades away from being as profitable as television

Tell that to spammers
