1361  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bitshield wallet not reputed. Be careful of the noncustododial wallet... on: July 03, 2022, 05:46:14 PM
What's the real worry is how frequent these are popping up, and because they're usually on the app store, they get quite a few downloads, meaning a lot of people could be caught out unknowingly. I think it's safe to say that most people getting into Bitcoin will likely use a mobile wallet, rather than doing their research, and then deciding. Since, a lot of the time it's more of a jump in the deep end, and figure it out rather than having the due diligence.

I think even most veteran users here will admit they didn't consider Bitcoin something they'd be using as a daily currency when they got into it. So, we need to figure a way of preventing these sort of users from getting compromised in this way. Unfortunately, we can't rely on Google's secure scan on the Google app, as that's rather generic.

Volk also announced he'll be moving up a division, which I'm all for. I honestly, after that performance against Max, don't think there's too many contenders in the same division. I thought Max would do better than that, but it's quite clear that Volk has just continued to get better, while Max looking a little stagnant. Same sort of attacks as the fight before, and didn't really have any other game plan. Tried to grapple, but Volk got the upper hand on pretty much every occasion.

Also, I haven't watched the post conference yet, is it worth watching? I'd only be interested in Strickland's attitude after being knocked out. That's if he didn't have to go to hospital for a few checks that is.
1363  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 03, 2022, 12:09:09 PM
I was a Jessica-Rose Clark decision away from winning £15k. What's more annoying, it was the first bloody fight of the evening, so any tension was gone before we even started. I knew it, I bloody knew I should've favoured the wrestler. Especially, in Womans mixed martial arts, I find the wrestlers are usually the ones that make a good bet, when it comes to underdogs.

Love to see Strickland brought back down to reality. Feel like he overlooked Alex. Izzy did Izzy things, made it look easy, but ultimately wasn't a overly exciting fight. Honestly, despite the card being stacked, I felt a little bit disappointed by most of the fights.

Israel Adesanya
Alexander Volkanovski
Alex Pereira
Bryan Barberena
Pedro Munhoz
Brad Riddell
Jim Miller
Gabe Green
Dricus Du Plessis
André Muniz
Maycee Barber
Jessica-Rose Clark
8 out of 12, one of those being a no contest, so 8 out of 11. That's not a bad night, if Jessica had won, I'd have landed two bets.
1364  Other / Meta / Re: [POLL] DT2 Status; how many net inclusions should it take? on: July 02, 2022, 11:43:14 AM
Right, so while theymos didn't necessarily categorise them based on priority, you can kind of read between the lines, and establish what might be implemented before something else. Ok/maybe obviously being better than the no category.

Obviously, this was back in 2018, and some of these changes have actually been implemented.

Cheers, I tried searching through my merit history with theymos as I was sure I would've merited it. However, didn't.

Also, 2018! Time flies.
1365  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 02, 2022, 11:36:29 AM
Right, so my bets are above. However, I've also got my predictions for the whole card:

Israel Adesanya
Alexander Volkanovski
Alex Pereira
Bryan Barberena
Pedro Munhoz
Brad Riddell
Jim Miller
Gabe Green
Dricus Du Plessis
André Muniz
Maycee Barber
Jessica-Rose Clark

I might place two bets, considering I won that money last weekend. The one bet that I've already mentioned (which I deem the safe bet), and then a slightly more risky one with more reward. Here:

Jessica-Rose Clark decision
Maycee Barber decision
André Muniz
Dricus Du Plessis
Jim Miller
Alexander Volkanovski
Israel Adesanya

I think that actually looks pretty good. It wouldn't give a massive amount of money. 23.40 odds. If you stick a Volk decision on it instead, it would be 34.32 odds.
1366  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Has anyone built a "briefcase computer"? on: July 02, 2022, 11:12:10 AM
The battery is the hardest part for me. You're either lugging around a portable power station, which is going to set you back quite a bit or like the video I linked, you'd build your own. I like the idea of building my own, since you know it satisfies the nerd in me, however from a safety stand point I'm not quite sure I trust my skills in doing so.

Then obviously that has to be replaced after a certain amount of cycles as you'll be using lithium batteries, which naturally degrade with use. That's what's stopping me from doing this build at the moment. Everything else is pretty easily sorted, even doing it somewhat compactly as well.
1367  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: July 02, 2022, 10:52:51 AM
I agree with Welsh though, City have Haaland but they've lost a few key players as well, not sure if 1-man Haaland can replace the outgoings. I know Pep's different too but I'll remember what happened to Bundesliga stars coming to EPL just in past 2 seasons alone. I don't like using the world flop but...
Right, and to be honest I'm not even convinced he will do well. Hear me out before you get the pitch forks out, but most of his highlight reels are amazing, running with the ball, and using his pace. However, in reality most of his goals come in from tap ins. Now, that's a skill in its own right, don't get me wrong. However, is Haaland going to get as much space in the Premier League as the Bundesliga?

I don't know the answer to that, but we'll soon find out. I'm a little worried since I've watched a fair bit of City games now, and they tend to hit the byline, and cross it quite effectively. However, up until this point they haven't really had the players in the right positions. If Haaland can still get in the right positions, he could be the difference between City drawing or losing.

However, I'm definitely not cacking my pants because he has joined city. I'm quietly confident about Nunes, and we've got Diaz who is arguably the best signing of last season.
1368  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have an undo button for comment and post editor? on: July 02, 2022, 10:37:10 AM
You could use custom software to achieve this on a phone, obviously though I wouldn't recommend downloading unverified code from the app store. I bet there will be open source options out there, that you could take a look at the code before installing. Some custom ROMS ship with this  sort of functionality, since they're trying to get away from relying on Gboard.
1369  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: July 01, 2022, 10:23:37 PM
The thing is, yeah Man City are stronger, but the only real signing of note is Haaland who is known to have injury problems. So, he could be another Aguero where when he plays he delivers, but for much of the year is out injured. I actually think Haaland is a bit of a risk because of that.

I'm not buying into the idea that City is this unstoppable force. They dropped a lot of points last season when they got quite a good lead on us. One big signing doesn't make a difference in my opinion. Sure, more goals. However, I actually think their defence isn't exactly the best. Think they could improve there. Nah, I think Liverpool, and Chelsea are going to challenge this year. Arsenal, outside chance.
1370  Other / Meta / Re: [INFO]Gambling Board Spams; Concerns, Solutions & Suggestions on: July 01, 2022, 10:03:03 PM
Ah Welsh, you made a point that I overlooked entirely. If posts get deleted in self-moderated threads then yes the root issue is not known to moderators therefore having them reported have their own benefits for the forum admin and moderators to look at the wider problem.

The downside is that on many occasions actions by moderators have taken days to either merge posts or remove them. Self-moderated thread creators can get twitchy in the interim  Grin

I think I will try to do that, instead of just deleting spammers I will report them and wait for moderators to take action unless the posts are from users that are promoting scams or alike. (Those are really related to the sports threads I created in the gambling section).
You could just apply it to those that are spamming all over, and not just posted a one off comment. I guess there's a balance to it, and obviously what you want in your self moderated thread is up to you, but looking at it from a greater scope, worth keeping in mind. I'm certainly not telling you it's required.

Yeah, I can't really comment on how long it takes for reports to get acted upon, as I don't see them from that section. Although, the ones that I have done were handled the same day.
1371  Other / Meta / Re: [POLL] DT2 Status; how many net inclusions should it take? on: July 01, 2022, 09:07:41 PM
What I understand, he has a list of priorities and none of us know what's in the list. Something is very important to us could be less important for him, not saying that changing the net score is something very important right now. It's working but it would be better if the score is higher. Hopefully he also see the importance like us.
I'll have to find it, or rely on someone who's a little bit quicker, but there was a time where theymos gave his opinion on certain features that were suggested over the years, and they categorised them in terms of priority or at least what they somewhat agree with, and don't.

It was a pretty extensive list. So, we got a little insight into their priorities, as well as how their mind works when it comes to implementing things into the forum. I don't specifically recall the trust system being mentioned though. Although, it might have been. Think this post is a few years old at this point.
1372  Economy / Speculation / Re: Q2 Bitcoin Close -56% on: July 01, 2022, 08:53:02 PM
During crises and recessions, most people are concerned about how to earn something, not how to save their money.
I'm not sure, usually you see people trying to cut down. Super market branded food sells more, people look to share cars to work, and people basically look to cut down on celebrations, and treats. So, I do think it's a combination of both. However, most people aren't thinking about investments during this time, due to the risky nature. I mean, investing in Bitcoin is a risky investment during times where you might not have a steady income. Since, as we know recessions usually mean mass redundancies, and job losses. I already know people who have been told they're being made redundant at the end of the year. So, it's already happening.

I think we'll see those with a bit of a buffer investing in Bitcoin during the recession, but those strapped for cash will be looking to stretch their penny further than before. This basically doesn't help Bitcoin much from a supply, and demand viewpoint, and I do think this will effect the price, and hence we won't be seeing any major uptrend in the next year.

I don't even know how long this recession is going to last, we'll likely be feeling the effects of it for years. There's an argument that recessions are never not felt, and they compound on one another.
1373  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 01, 2022, 08:46:04 PM
I'm still deciding on my predictions, but I think my bet will be something like this:

- Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier to not go the distance
- Alexander Volkanovski decision
- Sean Strickland decision
- Maycee Barber to go the distance

Just now seeing, I'm expecting most of the fights to reach a conclusion via points. Might need to change that Cheesy. Maybe, Izzy, Volk, Sean Strickland to win, and then Maycee Barber to go the distance instead.

I don't know if anyone noticed how skinny and weak Max Holloway looked on scale, you can see it in his face, but maybe something will change and he recovers for his fight with Volkanovski.
If I was to haveth a guess, it would be a bad cut, which in theory he could recover from before the fight. Both of these guys have insane cardio though, and if he has had a bad cut, it would be interesting to see how that might affect that cardio. As we know, Volk is relentless at times.
1374  Other / Meta / Re: [POLL] DT2 Status; how many net inclusions should it take? on: July 01, 2022, 08:41:15 PM
A little over 5,000 users have voted, and those votes affect the forum's trust system for millions of users.  Not my idea of good representation.  Doubling the threshold for DT2 inclusion isn't going to fix all the abuses from which the trust system suffers, but it'll make it a bit harder to abuse.
Yeah, it's somewhat bad that so many users are potentially blindly trusting the DefaultTrust. However, 5000 users voting isn't actually to bad. I mean there's a common belief with statistics that at the very minimum 1000 should be in the dataset, which we're above at the least. Obviously, the more, the better that goes without saying.

Although, 5000 users including various different users, isn't a terrible representation. It would be interesting to see how those 5000 trust lists differ. You know, if they aren't changed all that much, and only adding a few users to the list, or excluding some, that would could be more of an issue. However, 5000 users on face value alone, doesn't strike me as terrible. I'm actually surprised it's that many to be honest. Not everyone trades on the forum, and not everyone necessarily needs the trust system.
1375  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Fear of losing my coins grabbed me by neck on: July 01, 2022, 08:34:33 PM
Mobile wallet doesn't mean inherently insecure. Same as a offline computer doesn't necessarily mean it's secure. Depends on how it was generated mainly, and for the upmost security the device should remain offline from generation.

I do not advise you to store a large amount of Bitcoin in a Mobile Wallet, because it is very vulnerable.
Okay, so I think it's important to distinguish why, and mainly because mobile phones are assumed to be online, and used as a daily device. However, that isn't always the case. A mobile phone wallet, that is completely offline should be just as safe as a computer based one. There might be some arguments in there, that might prove otherwise, but if it's stored correctly, and generated correctly, and the way you downloaded the wallet software was verified, and done correctly, then it should in theory be about the same security.

Personally, I would prefer a offline wallet generated via computer, but I get that phones could be a valid option for others, as long as they keep it offline. The risks multiply when you connect a wallet or generate a wallet to the internet. By that, I don't mean the wallet directly, but the device it's stored on.
1376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has reached a point of no return on: July 01, 2022, 08:25:23 PM
Apart from the security architecture of bitcoin, one major thing I noticed a out bitcoin is that the price fluctuation is also an advantage to bitcoin. Since bitcoin went below $20k, many people are being scared to invest in bitcoin, while the wise and the whales are planning how to buy big now and send the price back to $60k. It is a project, even if few are tired of it, another group will work tirelessly to send bitcoin to $60k and above.
So, the masses are used to the network and they keep managing it as long as it will last. That is what I discovered.
To speculative investors or long term holders, temporary blips in price are absolutely welcomed. It allows you to accumulate more Bitcoin than you would've been able too. No one is going to turn down that if presented to them.

If you're a short term investor then things get a little tricky. Short term investors are undoubtedly the ones that get burnt, however they need to accept that Bitcoin is probably one of the highest volatility investments you can make. So, you should try, and mitigate the risk of that at all times. People usually suggest Dollar cost averaging DCA, as a way of mitigating the risk of inflation, but even that is more suited to long term or medium term investors.
1377  Other / Meta / Re: [INFO]Gambling Board Spams; Concerns, Solutions & Suggestions on: July 01, 2022, 08:03:04 PM
The easiest way around the issue would be moderated threads, it is really difficult to look beyond that as an almost permanent solution.
I'm not against the idea, but I do think users should still be encouraged to report the outright spam, so that we can get to the bottom of the problem. It's all well, and good deleting a few posts that were deemed spam inside that moderated thread, but if they're doing it outside as well, it's good to have the moderators aware of that. Maybe, deleting the post in your self moderated thread, and reporting another outside, and just making note of that.

I don't want to see the community just coping, I want to see as many solutions as possible without too many restrictions being put in place. I think that's the best way forward personally.
1378  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Canelo vs Golovkin 3 (September 17) on: July 01, 2022, 07:54:25 PM
Golovkin isn't the fighter he once was. No matter how you like a fighter to win because of being a fan. Age does matter and play a huge role in boxing or any contact sports. Clearly Canelo will be the favorite to win but hey, the odds of GGG is really tempting especially if you are a huge fan. However, for me one must not let emotions to decide in sports betting and just focus on who has a better chance of winning because we are after the money.
Probably true, but I think the same could be said for Canelo. I haven't been overly impressed with him in his last few fights, not just his losses. I know Canelo is treated like a god by some people, but he's very beatable at this stage in his career. A good fighter, don't get me wrong. One of the best, but beatable.

I don't like the reputation that's associated with him being this strong, and all mighty fighter that can't be beat. Obviously, people are more aware of it with his recent loss. The thing is, his last few fights he has shown he hasn't got the tactical advantage he once had, he used to target specific areas of a fighter, and basically weaken them enough. I don't see that as much any more, he basically approaches most fights fundamentally the same, instead of looking to adapt. I think this comes with winning a lot, you end up believing you don't need to adapt, because you're already the champion.
1379  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin hit 100k or more in 2022? on: July 01, 2022, 07:49:34 PM
It ain't going to happen, at least looking at it realistically. We haven't really been through a major recession since Bitcoin was created, since Bitcoin was technically created in response to a recession, and the bank bailouts.

So, this is actually an interesting period of time. Uncharted territory if you will. I was just saying it could go either way. We either see faith in Bitcoin increase due to largely avoiding the inflation hikes, but then we've also got to consider that the more people selling right now out of fear, does have a short to medium term effect on that faith.

Until this recession is over, personally I don't see us achieving a new all time high. However, I've been wrong before. To me though, at times of difficulty people are more likely to take less risks, and therefore hold onto money rather than investing. As times get more difficult, more people are willing to sell their investments to make ends meet, which might mean they sell at a loss, and therefore lose faith in future investment. So, it'll be telling times this year, but I don't think we'll see any major upward trend until at least next year.

Personally, I think after the halving we'll see the real climb, since the halving will bring positive outlooks, but we should either be in the middle of the recession or on the arse end of it by then, obviously we'll be feeling the effects for a while, but people would've been able to warm up to it, rather than being thrown into deep water.
1380  Economy / Speculation / Re: Q2 Bitcoin Close -56% on: July 01, 2022, 07:44:22 PM
Many are still waiting for $10K to $14K prices, which I can understand based on how bearish the market and economic environment currently is. I also think it'll happen if $17.5K is broken.
Global recession incoming, will either mean people are very bearish for a long time, since they're basically penny grabbing, and trying to survive or the opposite will happen; people will look to escape inflation, and the problems of fiat, and therefore look for an alternative since they've lost faith in the current money system.

I don't know what's more likely, but if I were to haveth a guess it would be the former, since it takes a special time of person, usually those that don't mind the risk to invest in something when they might not be guaranteed income every month with mass job losses.
