10021  Other / Off-topic / Re: Help me! Why is it they call gambling a game? on: August 28, 2016, 06:26:25 AM
I would say that any "investment" is a form of "gambling"... as all investments carry with them an element of risk, but there is no way that "gambling" is necessarily an investment. Similar to the "All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares" argument.

And I wouldn't necessarily define gambling as a game either. Some people treat it like a business (Bookies etc) and some people treat it as an income (professional gamblers)... about the only ones treating it as a game are those having a bit of fun and doing some casual betting for some entertainment.
10022  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud Mining Some Questions on: August 28, 2016, 06:18:16 AM
Which cloud mining is 100% real ?
because i heard many are fake and scam ..
any one who can advise ? Cry
An easy rule of thumb is: "All Cloud Mining is a scam"

It may not be completely 100% accurate, but I can guarantee that application of this rule will definitely prevent you from losing any money and/or BTC to cloud mining scams. As far as I can tell, there is maybe one or two so-called "cloud mining" operation that are legitimate and pay out... however, the amounts are so small that you'd probably get a better return on your investment by putting the money into a normal bank account and getting 1% interest Tongue

The margins for miners (especially since the halving) have become fairly small... they barely make any money for themselves even with low cost/free electricity... how are they supposed to give any money to investors?
10023  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Want to know this is ponzi or not on: August 28, 2016, 06:05:02 AM
It looks like it has pretty much got to the point where the flow chart for determining whether an "investment" site is a scam or not goes something like this:

Does the site want you to give them BTC?
  • Yes ---> Site is most likely a scam.
  • No ---> Site is most likely not a scam.

 Roll Eyes

As each day goes by, there are less and less "legit" investments and the only things left are "coin doublers", "cloud mining" and other HYIP offering ridiculous and unsustainable returns.
10024  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coince Stopped Paying on: August 28, 2016, 05:52:50 AM
I can see the headlines now - "Totally predictable outcome of obvious Ponzi/HYIP scheme comes as huge shock to thousands of gullible BTC investors"  Roll Eyes

Am I at all suprised by this announcement? Nope. Honestly, I, along with others like cryptodevil, spent so many days in the previous coince threads highlighting how obvious a scam coince was and trying to counter all the obvious fake posts by supposed coince customers who were supposedly getting paid... anyone who invested after reading those threads almost deserves to have lost their money for being so stupid and ignoring all of the evidence.

10025  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What is the BEST SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN? on: August 28, 2016, 05:46:22 AM
Where can I put my efforts here??
What signature campaign is better here??
Define "best"...

For some people, they prefer getting paid per post... for others, they prefer getting a fixed rate per week as long as they meet minimum post numbers. Others prefer to join a campaign based on their preference for a particular site/cause that aligns with their interests or beliefs.

And for some, the best one is whatever one will take them and let them spam to their hearts content and get paid regardless Tongue

I will never sell everything, but I want to enjoy the profits.  Roll Eyes
Assuming you have sufficient BTC's... why can't you just withdraw your initial investment and enjoy that? The rest you can leave "invested" in BTC to sell at a later date when it is at a price that satisfies your "greed" Tongue

You do raise a good question though and I think this is a dilemma for a lot of different investments (not just BTC). At what point do you cash out? Do I take my profits today and then regret that decision tomorrow if BTC doubles in price tomorrow? Do I take my profits today and be thankful when BTC halves in price tomorrow?

Personally, I think the best thing you can do, is set a target that you are happy with... and when that target is reached, cash out. If you wish to reinvest in BTC, then forget your previous investments and start from a new "zero" point. Otherwise you will always be second guessing yourself and wondering "what if?"  Undecided
10027  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Wallet out of date on: August 28, 2016, 05:15:06 AM
Firstly, you may want to move this post to the Electrum specific board under "Development & Technical Discussion -> Alternative Clients -> Electrum".

Secondly, which platform are you on? Windows, OSX, Linux, Android?

Thirdly, regardless of platform, are you running the latest version of Electrum? I vaguely remember reading that some issues like missing transactions were caused by not being on the latest version of Electrum and it not being able to get the proper info from the Electrum servers.

As far as other wallets go... well it really depends on what platform you're using and what exactly you are wanting to achieve.
10028  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitPistol - Are you smart enough to solve these puzzle? >>> TEST your brains <<< on: August 25, 2016, 10:19:08 AM
How do you know bullet 2 hit first ?
Did you read my explanation? It is all to do with the way the cracks in the glass have spread. If you follow the way the cracks spread from each hole, you can see that some of the cracks are "stopped" by other cracks... Logically, this means that the crack that STOPS the 2nd crack was already there.

The best example is the one going vertically up from #3. It looks like it runs into the crack from #2 (that is running, more or less, from left to right) and stops. Logically, this would mean the crack from #2 was already there, so hole #2 was made before #3.

The same happens with the little short crack from #1, travelling to the left... it is "stopped" by the crack coming down vertically from #2. Therefore, #2 was before #1. This means it must have been the first one, because it was before both #1 and #3.

You're reading WAY too much into the puzzle with your comments about bullet types and recoil etc. Tongue
10029  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin active nodes = "elite" and "decentralized" on: August 22, 2016, 11:12:49 AM
You do realise that the federal reserve applies to the United States of America... and ONLY the United States of America right? Last time I checked... there are another 195 odd countries in the world (depending on whether or not you count Taiwan Wink)... Also, I'm not entirely sure how the number of Fed reserve employees is supposed to be some sort of comparison to Bitcoin nodes? Fairly sure the guy cleaning the toilets at the Fed Reserve doesn't really have that much impact on fiscal matters...

Can you please try to explain what exactly is your issue with Bitcoin? You seem to be the resident "The End is nigh!" sandwich board guy... and I'm struggling to see past the Chicken Little "The sky is falling!" rhetoric that you keep posting... Undecided

10030  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to transfer the ownership of a Bitcoin address? on: August 22, 2016, 10:59:13 AM
So I just recently interested on Bitcoin vanity address, and I generated some cool looking address. And then this idea came out, how can I give or sell people these vanity addresses that I've found?
Is it possible to generate an address and then give the ownership to someone?
Is there any way that I can remove the first private key and then my friend make a new one for himself?
The problem is you can't really sell an account you've already generated as "safe", as you have seen the private key... any account where the number of people who have access to the private key > 1 can not be guaranteed to be secure. Much the same way any "secret" that is known by more than 1 person is not a secret. Unless the person trusts you implicitly, they should not consider buying one of these addresses from you.

However, if you were to start doing "Split Key" account generation as used by other Vanity Address generator services, then they are "safe" (assuming the recipient follows best practice and runs the private key generation on their own hardware and doesn't do something dumb like use a website to calculate the keys) and should be able to be used without issue. (Ignoring other Vanity Address issues)

  • ManU v. Southampton - WIN!
  • Stoke v. ManCity - WIN!
  • Burnley v. Liverpool - wtf?!? Sad
  • Swansea v. Hull - didn't see that coming... Sad
  • Tottenham Hotspur v. Crystal Palace - WIN!
  • WBA v. Everton - Draw No Bet - WIN!
  • Watford v. Chelsea - WIN!
  • Leicester v. Arsenal - Draw No Bet - Push
  • Sunderland - Draw No Bet v. Middlesborough - tsk tsk Sad
  • West Ham v. Bournemouth - WIN!
I'm hoping for around 7 or 8 out of 10 this week... fingers crossed Wink
6 Wins, 1 Push and 3 losses (2 shock ones)... Still turned a slight profit, glad I didn't attempt to Parlay all these otherwise those shock results would have ruined me Wink

Got some nice odds by betting early on a couple of the games, so managed a nice little profit this weekend... to make back most of the money I lost on the Europa/Champions League games... just in time to lose it all again on the next round of Europa and Champions League games  Grin
10032  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitPistol - Are you smart enough to solve these puzzle? >>> TEST your brains <<< on: August 22, 2016, 10:19:10 AM
It would definitely be bullet #2 that hit the glass first... followed by bullet #3 and last was bullet #1. The reasoning being that #2 doesn't have any cracks that are "stopped" by existing cracks, #3 only has a crack stopped by cracks from #2, and #1 has cracks that are stopped by both #2 and #3.

That was a pretty easy one compared to the maths involved with the probabilities of dying in games of Russian roulette Tongue
10033  Economy / Gambling / Re: Seuntjies DiceBot -Multi-Site, multi-strategy betting bot for dice. With Charts! on: August 22, 2016, 10:14:20 AM
I've found the problem. Before you go off thinking I'm blaming you, I'm not. This is a problem in the bot and I will fix it. I'm just telling you what causes it and how you can prevent it from happening in the future until I release a new version.

You have an empty line below your last bet. So if you select your whole list (from top down, or by clicking in the box and pressing ctrl+a), there's this line.

This line shouldn't be there. Delete it, if there are more than one, delete them all. Then it should work without a problem.

The reason it showed on 999dice and does not show on cryptogames is because of the amount of information returned from the site and how the bot handles the information.
Wow... what a sneaky little bug! Your determination to find the root cause for all the problems users encounter (even though some are actually site issues and not bot issues) gives me great faith in your bot!

... *question about rounding/truncating* ...
This depends from site to site.... Some sites give me all the info, others I need to calculate manually. Mostly, it's rounded by the site and I only report what I get back from the site, others, like 999dice, I need to manually calculate the profit and thus the displays it weird sometimes
Thanks for that. I actually had a bit of a chat with the ADMs and MODs over at CryptoGames who basically confirmed that the site actually maintains precision past the displayed values... apparently 4 more decimal places... which explains a couple of other little quirks I've noticed, where I seemed to get "extra" satoshis here and there, but it was just the hidden values adding up Wink

If my lucky streak continues, I'll be able to make a modest donation soon Wink
10034  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Micropayment / Donation collector service? on: August 20, 2016, 10:07:42 PM
Yeah.

Just like any crowdfunding site.

One possible workaround I thought of would be to provide one BTC adress and give instructions to people who want to fund it and dont own any BTC wallet, to go to a site who sells bitcoins buy some for the desired amount of fiat and pay them out to the given BTC adress.

But usually if something like this has more than 2 steps to accomplish, most of the people will simply not bother to do so. Usually a simple registration form is too much.
As far as I'm aware, the complete service you are wanting doesn't currently exist. Unless the person knows what they are doing, gifting BTC to someone else can be a bit of a hassle. Perhaps this is a business opportunity for you to explore?

I suspect most people would just use Paypal to collect the initial "donation" from friends and family as it is widely known, most people trust it and it is relatively easy to use. Then they can simply move the Paypal funds to BTCs themselves using whatever BTC purchasing service they like (localbitcoins, exchanges etc).

The advantage I see doing it this way, is that it is easier and, as you say, more likely for someone to gift money if the difficulty is lower... and because the money starts in fiat, you are able to actually purchase "Real World™" things before converting the rest to BTC.

Granted, it does require a little bit of manual work on your end (converting Paypal funds to BTC), but hey... you end up with "free" BTC right?? So, once a week/month having to go and source BTC is not THAT big of an issue right??  Grin
10035  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: August 20, 2016, 09:59:06 PM
Yeah... Good old Liverpool, pulling off big wins against big teams... and then losing to crappy teams Sad

As predicted the Leicester v. Arsenal one was played tight. Neither team wanting to end up with 2 losses to start the season, so no goals scored and a 0-0 result... Thank goodness for "Draw no bet" Wink A little surprised by the Swansea v Hull result... I would have thought Swansea should have won that one, but another 2-0 result in favour of the lesser team.

That's football I guess... Still, I think I'm tracking OK to come away with a nice little profit from this weekend.

I like Crypto-Games.net because: It allows me to chat with really friendly people at pretty much any time of day (and even gives small bonus for doing so Wink). The admins and Mods are also pretty active, open, friendly and fair making it the best little gambling community I have found.
10037  Economy / Gambling / Re: Seuntjies DiceBot -Multi-Site, multi-strategy betting bot for dice. With Charts! on: August 20, 2016, 09:03:52 PM
Hi Seuntjie,

I just have a query about the bot and how the precision works. Am I correct in thinking that the precision and rounding of values depends upon how the site and how their API works rather than anything the bot is doing?

I ask because I have the multiplier set as 1.11235, so my bet amounts end up as crazy values like: 0.00000335712994439553, but the amounts being won and lost end up being rounded/truncated as -0.00000335. So, I assume the bot is just reporting the results and values returned by the API... so it is the site doing the rounding/truncating and not the bot. Is that correct?
10038  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: August 20, 2016, 01:49:46 PM
Well... Man City never really seemed in doubt against Stoke. 4-1 full time score to Manchester City and an easy Money line victory... Hopefully the rest of my picks stand up for the next lot of games today...

Still confident that Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool will win their games comfortable... The other 3 are still fairly even... I think Leicester v. Arsenal could be the game of the weekend...
10039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two things are certain: Bitcoin and Taxes on: August 20, 2016, 01:43:10 PM
I think the OP may need to put a little less "conspiracy sugar" in his morning coffee.

The "big institutions" can create all the blockchains they want with all the taxes and government oversight they want... and the various governments of the world can do the same... and everyone can feel free to ignore them and continue using Bitcoin (or whatever new and improved cryptocurrency that comes along) that remains decentralised and without the taxes etc.
10040  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What wallet is best for windows on: August 20, 2016, 01:38:03 PM
For windows, you want to use either core if you want to have the full blockchain and the security of being your own "bank" and being able to handle all the transactions yourself... however if the prospect of downloading the entire blockchain seems less than appealing and you're after a SPV wallet, go with Electrum. It is tried and tested and is very good at what it does.
