9221  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: fees? on: June 18, 2017, 03:59:42 AM
It does seem to be settled at 0.0012-0.0015btc...
0.0012btc(from 0.0005btc last week) for me at yolodice and 0.0015btc(from 0.0005btc three weeks ago) on Yobit.
These numbers are irrelevant... what are the sats/byte (or BTC/kB) fee rates being used? The sats/byte rate is the true reflection of the network fee... NOT the total amount of btc being used as a fee.
9222  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Pywallet 2.2: manage your wallet [Update required] on: June 18, 2017, 03:55:52 AM
I have the wallet.dat file in the same directory as pywallet.py
If I try to dump the wallet, I get:

ERROR:root:Couldn't open wallet.dat/main. Try quitting Bitcoin and running this again.
By default... pywallet works on the default Bitcoin directory and wallet.dat file (Hence the error telling you to shut it down, it doesn't want to work on a "live" wallet).

You likely need to use the following commandline options to get it to point to the wallet.dat you want to work on:

Quote from: pywallet README
--dumpwallet          dump wallet in json format
...
--datadir=DATADIR     wallet directory (defaults to bitcoin default)
--wallet=WALLETFILE   wallet filename (defaults to wallet.dat)

Just as an FYI...
Quote
If I try to recover, I get:
$ ./pywallet.py --recover --recov_size 30.1Gio --recov_device ./wallet.dat --recov_outputdir ./rec2/
Recover is used when you're effectively scanning a drive to try and find accidentally deleted wallet files and/or keys... it probably isn't what you want to be using...

  • Read a device to find deleted keys (CLI only)
    • Assuming that:
      • The device you want to read is /dev/sda3
      • The size of /dev/sda3 is 30.1Gio
      • You want pywallet to write the new wallet containing the found keys in /home/jackjack/recovered_wallets
    • Run "sudo ./pywallet.py --recover --recov_device /dev/sda3 --recov_size 30.1Gio --recov_outputdir /home/jackjack/recovered_wallets"
    • Then replace your wallet (back it up before) with the recovered wallet and run "bitcoin -rescan"
--recov_device needs to be set to a disk (ie. harddrive or maybe usb). The --recov_size is used to specify the size of the device in Gigabytes...
9223  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: forgot and lost private key blockchain.info on: June 18, 2017, 03:38:26 AM
You have a watching only wallet on blockchain.info:

Effectively, you have created a wallet using only the public key and/or public bitcoin address... this means that ALL you can do is view the transactions of this address, but you CANNOT spend any of the coins owned by that address.

Did you remember having/creating a paper wallet (or maybe an offline wallet on an "airgapped" computer) back when you first set this account up?

Unfortunately, if you have lost the private key... then those coins will be stuck in that address forever. Without the private key you cannot create a transaction that spends those coins Sad

You are looking for something that looks like:

KyYMzU7ump7MnTcFSppWfhr7geX8TF9exSv51aFmEwSpaLee62CK (52 chars, starts with L or K)

or

5JLnzRitqDVB9VERa3E2jkh8QUz88JhvutdwqAM7Q6YE3cpK4PZ (51 chars, starts with a 5)

This address 176sh81PQupUsFyx6hNL2PTYydSu from the screenshot doesn't seem to be a valid Bitcoin address. Did I copy the address correctly, or is that not your address? The transaction ID should show a valid address for that wallet.
The OP has edited the pic and censored the full address (you can see evidence of this in the greyed out background Wink

9224  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Seuntjie' Dice bot programmers mode discussion. on: June 18, 2017, 02:28:12 AM
Firstly, you can't run scripts in Advanced mode, only programmer mode.

And, No you can't get it to load extra scripts. You can only run what is inside the script window.

As a solution to your problem, you could just create two functions outside of the dobet() function... call one scriptOneStuff() and scriptTwoStuff() and then just call whichever one you want based on the outcome of your rolls or whatever other conditions you are wanting to base the script changing conditions on... something like

Code:
...
function dobet()

  if (win) then
    scriptOneStuff()
  else
    scriptTwoStuff()
  end

  ...

end

function scriptOneStuff()
  ... put your stuff here...
end

function scriptTwoStuff()
  nextbet = something else
  bethigh = low
other stuff that you want to do...

end

Using global vars declared before the dobet() should enable you to manipulate common values in both functions...
9225  Other / MultiBit / Re: can some one help me? on: June 18, 2017, 02:17:29 AM
Ok, I think we are getting a little confused because windows is not configured to show the files types correctly in Windows Explorer (where you are looking at your folders and files)... so you aren't seeing the "Full" file names... To correct this, you need to:

1. Click on Start button in the bottom left corner of the desktop

2. Type "Folder Options" in the box at the bottom and you should get an option at the top that says "Folder Options", click on that:

3. You'll get a window titled "Folder Options" pop up. Click on the "View" Tab at the top and then make sure that "Hide extensions for known file types" is UNCHECKED:

4. Click "Apply" and then "OK".

Now, when you look in the appdata\Roaming\MultiBit directory... you should see the FULL filename for each file:

multibit.info
multibit.key
multibit.properties
multibit.spvchain

etc.

What you want to do is copy the "File #8 is from 2/18/14 wallet file" that you found in wallet-backup and copy that into the appdata\roaming\MultiBit directory. Then inside MultiBit program "File -> Open Wallet" and select the file #8 that you copied.

That will hopefully show you all your coins.

9226  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] US$50 Hot Topic Gift Card - asking $45 on: June 18, 2017, 01:52:08 AM
I know right.... "we ship to over 150 countries"... right up until I put my address in:
Quote
No applicable ship methods available. Please check Product Availability, Shipping Restrictions and/or Shipping Destination.

And yes, I have tried contacting them... the missus even moaned at them on Facebook (which apparently is the best way to get their attention it would seem)... Got some badly spell checked canned response and was told that our shipping address was invalid. Which is rubbish... the shipping address is perfectly fine, Amazon ship stuff to it all the time Undecided Roll Eyes Angry

Then they told me to call them... so I wasted some more money on an international call to the States, talked to the nice guy for like 30 mins entering my order manually, confirming address and billing info etc... for him to tell me that he was getting the same error Undecided

Then we tried the package forwarding address and that was OK, but there was some issue with the credit card payment (Total order value was over $50 so I was trying to pay the rest with my Credit Card)... so then the guy talked to the Finance team to attempt to figure out if it was a "Verification of Address" issue and whether I needed to get my bank on a 3-way call to verify my address... another 10 minutes on hold...

And then the icing on the cake was after I handed over to the finance team guy, I randomly got put on hold and then the call disconnected  Roll Eyes Angry

45 minutes of my life I'm not getting back. At this point, I'm just totally over it... I just want to get "some" money back so I can go and use Amazon because that just works...

As a side note... the gift card was originally purchased using Bitcoins from eGifters.com. (I can probably show the receipt and sign a message from the bitcoin address if a potential buyer wants proof)
9227  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cant sync core wallet, have wallet passcode but lost recovery phrase on: June 18, 2017, 01:51:08 AM
Personally, I can't really recommend either Breadwallet or Blockchain.info wallet... Breadwallet just annoys me with it's over the top security requirements and constant data usage. Blockchain.info is just full of bugs, has

Install Electrum on your desktop. During the wallet creation, instead of "Create a new seed", select the "Use public or private keys" option:

Then you can put your private key in... click next and then the transaction history and balance for that address/private key will show up... and you can spend it as required.

Alternatively, you can just create a new Electrum wallet using a seed and then "Wallet -> Private Keys -> Sweep" and put your key in there. This will create a transaction that sends from the address/private key to any address you specify (like one of the addresses in your new Electrum wallet Wink)

Sweeping is recommended over importing... as with importing your private key has been 'exposed' to a certain degree...

9228  Economy / Digital goods / [WTS] US$50 Hot Topic Gift Card - asking $45 on: June 17, 2017, 12:48:35 PM

Ok, so I tried to be nice and bought my missus a USD$50 Hot Topic eGift Card so she could buy herself some cool Wonder Woman Themed stuff that they don't sell here... Unfortunately, I didn't realise that Hot Topic won't ship here, even tried a US-Based package forwarding service and Hot Topic just cancelled the order saying the shipping address was invalid Sad Undecided >Sad

I have setup the item for sale over at Selly: https://selly.gg/p/bb15e71a

Card is worth USD$50.00... hoping to get $45.00 worth of BTC for it so I can just go buy her an Amazon Gift Card like I should have done in the first place Tongue

Gift Card Code gets automatically sent to your email by Selly after 1 confirmation Smiley

If you have any questions... just ask or PM.

NOTE: I can only recommend that US-Based folks buy this... as I can't guarantee Hot Topic will ship to your location if you aren't in the US!
9229  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cant sync core wallet, have wallet passcode but lost recovery phrase on: June 17, 2017, 04:26:29 AM
Ok, so I'm assuming that the transaction that you sent to your friend is showing in your transaction list (as unconfirmed)? If you are using 0.14.1, you should be able to right click on the transaction in the transaction list and select "Abandon Transaction".

If that doesn't work, then I would suggest shutting down your Bitcoin Core client... and restarting it using the "-zapwallettxes" commandline option... This will remove all unconfirmed transactions from your wallet, which, in theory, should then mean that your balance reflects what is in your wallet.

Having said that, if you wallet is not synced, and there are transactions on that address AFTER the last block that has been synced, you may get an incorrect balance.

I take it you still haven't been able to get the sync working? What version of the Bitcoin Core client are you using?

EDIT: Actually, it probably won't really matter... if you can see your addresses, proper balance or not... you can still dump the private keys... once you import the private keys into another wallet, that wallet should be able to scan the blockchain and get the correct transaction history and balance for your address.
9230  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Problem importing a Private key into Electrum on: June 17, 2017, 03:25:04 AM
OP seems to not understand the difference between "Sweep" and "Import" Undecided

"Sweeping" creates a transaction that sends the coins from that address to your new Electrum (or any other) address that you choose... thus, it will have a different private key and different address.

The only way to maintain the same private key and address is to "import" the key... and this is not possible into an Electrum HD (aka "seed based") wallet... you can only "import" into an Electrum wallet that you specify as being based on public/private keys when you create it:

"File -> New/Restore"... give it a name... select "Standard Wallet"... then you should see this:

DO NOT select "create a new seed"... instead, make sure you select "Use public or private keys", click "next". Then put your private key into the box on the next screen and click "next".

Your wallet will be created with your "old address" and transaction history and balance for that address.

NOTE: It is NOT recommended to import, as this new wallet is NOT an HD wallet and so it is not backed up by a 12 word seed phrase. You must therefore make regular backups of the wallet file and/or private keys so that you are able to recover your coins if your computer blows up or your hard drive dies etc.

Sweeping is a much better option!!

9231  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: using electrum for crowd fund haivng problems on: June 17, 2017, 03:12:57 AM
If you restore your wallet in Electrum as a "2FA wallet"... it supposedly re-creates the wallet with 2 of the 3 private keys for a multi-sig wallet on your computer, so you no longer need to use TrustedCoin.com to sign transactions. (This is the recommended "recovery" method if you lose your phone, no longer want to user TrustedCoin or TrustedCoin goes offline etc).

I'm unfamiliar with how these crowdfund things work... but are they asking that you provide them with a private key? If so, that seems incredibly sketchy... Shocked Undecided

Why exactly do they need your private key? Huh
9232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Wallet for Android / Re: Anyone can share bitcoin android wallet application design? on: June 17, 2017, 03:00:28 AM
Have you any prior experience with Android App Design/Development?

If not, then you should probably start small and get familiar with the Android environment and development tools first: https://developer.android.com/training/index.html

Once you have an understanding of Android Apps in general, along with coding standards for format, layout, structure, resources and libraries, you will find that the code on github starts to make a lot more sense. Wink
9233  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Lets make ARMORY Instructions for noob. on: June 17, 2017, 02:53:53 AM
I think you guys missed the invisible [sarcasm] tag that the OP wrapped around his comment... he has been raging in other threads about how Armory has caused him nothing but headaches... Roll Eyes

Looks like a simple case of attempting to run before they've learned to walk... Armory isn't exactly n00b friendly, but there is nothing preventing n00bs from going and learning how Armory and/or Bitcoin works BEFORE attempting to use either Tongue
9234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: are 2 USB drives really needed for tails? on: June 17, 2017, 02:34:40 AM
still dont understand what this persistent storage means
By default Tails loads and operates completely in RAM... so as soon as you shutdown or restart the computer, all traces and data are wiped. It is the "amnesic" part of "The Amnesic Incognito Live System" Wink

Persistent Storage is used if you need to save data between sessions... this can be place on another usb stick, an external hard drive or, as mentioned, an encrypted partition created on an internal hard drive.
9235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Cant sync core wallet, have wallet passcode but lost recovery phrase on: June 17, 2017, 02:25:34 AM
Hello all, noob here. I bought a little btc in '13 and have had it in my desktop(HP Pavillion p6720f) core wallet ever since. I have been unable to sync with the bitcoin network. I lost my 12 word recovery phrase. The wallet opens and I have the wallet passcode, it's just not synced. Is/are there any alternative way/s to get the coins out? I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
Bitcoin Core (aka Bitcoin-QT) never used 12 word recovery phrase. Also, it has only had HD support as of v0.13.0 which was released in August of 2016. If you have had the wallet since 2013, it is NOT an HD wallet. It is just a "traditional" wallet comprised of a collection of private keys.

Have you upgraded to the latest version? (currently v0.14.1)... if not, this may explain why you are unable to sync.

If you have upgraded... and still can't sync, is your instance connecting to the network ok? If you goto "Help -> Debug Window -> Information" what does it say for "Network Connections"? It may be your firewall and/or router blocking the inbound/outbound connections.

If you just want to move to a new wallet... Goto "Help -> Debug Window -> Console" and then:

1. use the
Code:
listaddressgroupings
command to see all your addresses. (As a bonus, it also enables you to see which ones contain coins Wink)

2. use
Code:
walletpassphrase "YOURPASSWORDHERE" 600
to unlock the wallet for 10 minutes (600 seconds)... you can use whatever number you like, just make it long enough to give you time to get all the keys out

3. use
Code:
dumprivkey "BITCOINADDRESS"
for each of the addresses you got in Step 1. You can do all, or only the ones with coins, it is up to you and whether or not you expect to receive payments to these addresses in the future.

4. Sweep (or Import) the private keys from Step 3. into the wallet of your choice. Sweeping is the recommended procedure as it effectively moves the coins to the new wallet/address... whereas import keeps them on the current (and now 'exposed') private keys...

Thank you for the response. I copied my wallet.dat file to a USB drive. What would you say the minimum requirements are for a computer to be capable of downloading all blocks/syncing to the blockchain? I don't want to waste the time if the next computer I try can't sync either. Any idea?
Minimum specs here: https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-core/features/requirements
9236  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Cold Storage on: June 16, 2017, 10:02:02 AM
I suspect this is why you need two pendrives to install Tails... as you can only install "actual" Tails from another Tails install... If you have windows, you first have to download and install an intermediary Tails on one pendrive, then boot from that and then install your actual Tails on the 2nd pendrive... a bit convoluted, but you're trading security for convenience.

After you have it setup... Tails should be safe from your Main OS as it it designed so that it doesn't attempt to mount and/or use other drives on your system unless you configure it to do so. Likewise with the networking side of it... You can disable all networking during boot.

The only other vector for attack that I can think of is some sort of BIOS based malware... I'm not aware of anything that advanced, but I'm sure someone is working on it. Tongue
9237  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Cold Storage on: June 16, 2017, 06:48:44 AM
This website has some great resources and templates for paper wallets: https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/

They have an offline version to download and run on an offline computer to prevent security issues. Additionally they have warnings if you're not offline... a good FAQ about security of paper wallets... a tutorial video... basically, everything you need to know about paper wallets! Smiley

If you don't have your own printer... then paper wallets become a bit more difficult... you'd be able to use the software to generate the appropriate keys/addresses etc... but you'd need to transcribe it all onto paper by hand to be safe...

As you have already recognised, using an online service and/or print shop is a massive security risk!

... but it would be sufficient to just encrypt your paper wallet with a password that you can remember using BIP38. You should store backups of your paper wallet and password in various places.
The only issue with BIP38 is that it isn't well supported by any of the mainstream bitcoin wallets... you'd need to make sure that you saved copies of the software used to generate the BIP38 wallets, so that you can then decrypt them as and when required.
9238  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to take a BTC out of a cold storage wallet safely on: June 16, 2017, 06:39:52 AM
That is a very good tutorial! Well done... Smiley

Just one small thing to add... if your "offline" wallet is "locked", the signrawtransaction command might fail. You may need to use the following command in the "Debug->Console" section first:

Code:
walletpassphrase "YOURPASSPHRASEHERE" 60

This will unlock the wallet for 60 seconds so that you can sign the transaction...
9239  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit problems on: June 16, 2017, 06:23:51 AM
This is a fairly well known issue with MultiBit HD (Have a look around here at the "Password did not unlock the wallet" threads) Undecided

Basically, your friend has 3 options to get around this:

Option #1:
Install either "Breadwallet" (iOS and Android) or "Simple Bitcoin Wallet" (Android only). They are currently the only know bitcoin wallets that use the same Derivation Path as MBHD. So you can restore your wallet in either of these apps using your "wallet words"/seed. After the app syncs, he should have his full balance showing. I do not recommend or endorse either of these apps for long term use/storage of bitcoins, but merely as a way to get access to the coins so they can be sent to another wallet.

Option #2:
If no iOS or Android device, then he can try extracting the private keys from the mbhd.wallet.aes file using my python scripts.

Option #3:
If running python scripts is a bit too complicated, you can get your private keys the manual way:

1. create an offline copy of: https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/ (instructions at the bottom of the page)
2. put your seed at the top where it says "Mnemonic seed"
3. In the "Derivation Path" section, Click the "BIP32"
4. For "client", select MultiBitHD (the "Bip32 Derivation Path) should say: m/0'/0
5. Copy all the "Receive" addresses/private key pairs from the bottom of page (you may need to click "show more" a few times to find ALL the "Receive" addresses used)
6. Now, chance the "client" to "custom"... and set the "BIP32 Derivation Path" to: m/0'/1
7. Now all the addresses/private keys listed at the bottom will be your "change addresses" (again, you may need to click "show more" a few times to find ALL the "Change addresses used.

Once you have the private keys, you can sweep or import them into another wallet, like Electrum
9240  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unable to do anything in my wallet on: June 16, 2017, 06:13:56 AM
Thank you doing this solved the problem i was having Cheesy
In that case, it sounds as though you may have some corrupted files in the default Electrum "data directory". On windows this is usually in %appdata%/Electrum. (should be something like: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Electrum)

If you have your seed safely backed up (and/or wallet file if you have a non HD wallet)... you should delete everything in the %appdata%/Electrum directory, re-install the latest Electrum and then restore your wallet.
