Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction Pending a Long day and never confirmed and date received changed

1. The transaction uses a fee that is too low... ~60 sats/byte... recommended fees have been well over 200 sats/byte for at least a week, if not 2... Tell whomever sent you this transaction to start using proper fees! 2. The transaction has an unconfirmed parent transaction, which also has a stupid low fee of ~60 sats/byte. Until that parent confirms, this transaction will not confirm. The unconfirmed parent is: https://blockchain.info/tx/a7eeef9207d59c7dd87be0440beb638b27ebc209edf0661db5a350f7af9adcf73. The date changed because somebody rebroadcast the transaction, so the "relay date" got updated. You will need to try accelerating that parent transaction (a7eeef9207d59c7dd87be0440beb638b27ebc209edf0661db5a350f7af9adcf7) using the ViaBTC TX Accelerator first. The only have 100 slots per hour, so submit it in the first minute of a new hour or you will get "submissions beyond limit" error. Once you have accelerated that one and it gets confirmed, then work on accelerating your b00107... transaction.

Well there you go... well done! I'll go and test that method and make sure it is repeatable... I'm assuming it is necessary to have both the .wallet AND the .info file to make it work... but I'll report back In any case, you should really upgrade to a more modern wallet... get an HD wallet (I wouldn't recommend MultiBit HD tho... it is a bit broken at the moment)... and then you can just restore using a 12 word seed It will also ensure that your transactions don't get stuck because of the stupid low fee settings that MultiBit Classic is stuck with.

Seems that the txid's for the four inputs all come up empty on the block explorers... and interestingly... when I decode it on coinb.in... it says that only 2 of the 4 inputs are signed?

Have you actually tried the ViaBTC TX Accelerator within the first minute of a new hour? ie at 11:00:01 or 13:00:05 or 02:00:10 or 17:00:20 etc etc?
I just did one 20minutes ago at 22:00:01 local time... Boom! Acceleration Succeeded. Make sure your computer time is synced to an internet time server and try and submit in the first few seconds of a new hour.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unconfirmed Transaction ... WHY?
|
on: May 24, 2017, 06:39:10 AM
|
... I've paid 0.0008 for 0.003 transaction ...
This is pretty much useless information. Fees are NOT related to the amount of BTC transacted. Also, the total fee used is meaningless without knowing what the transaction "data size" is as, fees should be calculated based on the "data size" of the transaction. This is why people talk about fees in terms of "satoshis per byte"... sure you used 0.0008... but if you transaction was made up of a lot of small inputs and your transaction "data size" was 1500 bytes... your effective fee was only ~53 sats/byte... when recommended fees are like 300 sats/byte. You need to post either the transaction ID or tell us the fee in sats/byte for us to tell if your fee was too low or "OK". Additionally, without the transaction ID, we have no way of knowing other reasons for your transaction being unconfirmed... like unconfirmed parent, double spend etc etc.

Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed Parent? - Electrum Transaction
|
on: May 24, 2017, 05:54:12 AM

Hi guys. I used Electrum 2.17.18 to make a transaction. My transaction ID: b47dee7788a259e414ba6b175558c0943eefb539e4c58399cc2d253745f65308 I have a transaction marked as "Unconfirmed parent". This makes no sense to me as all my incoming transactions are confirmed. I have attached a transaction fee of about 0.008BTC/kB which is an extremely high fee so I know that the fee is not the cause of this error. Does anyone know why my transaction is marked as "Unconfirmed parent" for so long? Any idea how long it'll stay like this? Any solutions?
Additional info: I had made a LOW FEE transaction prior to this which is still not confirmed. Not sure if this has anything to do with my problem. The transaction ID for this is: 0f685856b0169f7b8a78d7bbbe346c44970d1fc2e9977d9f16b21ca06294aa35
For future reference, you had an "unconfirmed parent" because your transactions (id b47dee...) was spending "unconfirmed" change from the low fee unconfirmed transaction (id: 0f6858...). Thankfully, your transaction had an 800 sat/byte fee, so you effectively did a "Child Pays For Parent" (CPFP) transaction and a SlushPool came along and confirmed them both in block 467770.

I would definitely be interested to see if using BTCSpeedy does anything other than cost you money. I've looked at various reports and most seem to be that BTCSpeedy does nothing (ie. it is effectively a scam). As far as I can tell, they don't actually have their own mining pool like ViaBTC, so they are "co-operating with main Bitcoin pools"... But then they say: Regarding that BTCSPEEDY.com Pool is using FPPS mining mode and those accelerated transactions are with low fees, BTCSPEEDY.com pool will subsidize miners to ensure that their earnings are not compromised But I can't find any record anywhere of there being a BTCSPEEDY.com pool... or it ever mining a block... so I'm kinda leaning towards this being a scam.

That is a transaction size of: 148 + (17 * 34) + 10 = 736 bytes. Given that a "standard" (1 input, 1 output + change address) transaction is ~226 bytes, you've effectively managed to send 17 transactions for the price of sending to 3(.25) Send to many is definitely a great option. Honestly, with the way the network is overloaded and "recommended" fees being so high... if you are wanting to do little micro payments, need fast confirmations and are getting all anxious about "high fees", you may as well go use altcoins like DOGEcoin or Litecoin or something...

Has anyone written a browser extension that polls for new ViaBTC blocks and submits the tx accelerator form (with captcha prefilled) yet?
Nice idea, but unfortunately I don't believe that will work. They've literally just mined a block and "submissions are beyond limit". I submitted about 30s after the block was mined. I am fairly sure they just reset their 100 slot limit every hour, not when they mine a block... and just add the TXes into a queue. So, the longer they go without mining a block, the longer the queue gets, but guaranteed to not grow faster than 100 per hour.

Did you try the suggested solutions? - Install breadwallet on iOS or Android device (if breadwallet doesn't work on your Android, try "Simple Bitcoin Wallet"). - Restore your MultiBit HD seed and wait for it to sync up... you'll have access to your coins and can move them to another wallet (like Electrum) If you cannot use Breadwallet or Simple Bitcoin Wallet... then your options are: 1. wait for devs to fix the bug or 2. use my python scripts to extract your keys with UTXOs and sweep (or import) those private keys to another wallet (like Electrum)... as mentioned by NeuroticFish, using a VirtualMachine with no network access is a good idea for added security while doing this. In other news, I've tested my scripts with Linux and MacOSX now or 3. Do it the long way and create an offline version of https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/ Then put your MultiBit HD seed in where it says Mnemonic Code... Under Derivation Path, select BIP32 and then client = "Custom" and set the path to m/0'/0 and copy all the addresses and keys (you may need to click show more to find all your addresses with coins)... then also set the path to m/0'/1 and find all your change addresses and keys that have coins. Import those keys to another wallet.

when I try VIABTC I am getting this: http://i67.tinypic.com/6ifbbc.jpgwhat does it mean? 1. Submissions are beyond limit. Please try later. 2. Your remaining Customer-Only use: 0 Times 1. Exactly what it says... They only accept 100 transactions per hour. You pretty much have to submit in the first minute of a new hour to have any chance of getting one of those 100 slots these days. 2. For some reason, you have created an account and signed in. This is NOT needed for the free service. That is only necessary for people who have a cloud mining account or are part of the ViaBTC mining pool. They can get "extra" submissions. Click the "Sign Out" button.

I'm surprised that Electrum's developers would not have gotten a Developer ID from Apple and signed their app.
Should I ignore the GateKeeper message and install anyways ?
"The cost is 99 USD per membership year." I'm not surprised at all... Yes, if you downloaded from the Electrum website and have confirmed that the package is signed with Thomas' key, then the package is unmodified. Go ahead and install it.

That's a bummer that it doesn't work on iOS with 18 words... thanks for the headsup (I have edited my earlier post for anyone stumbling across this thread in the future).
I was honestly expecting it to say the same thing when I tried it on Android, but it worked perfectly with 18 words...

Could you not just use a "friends & family" payment on Paypal?? I thought they were effectively non disputable (unless you pay by credit card and lodge a dispute with your card company)?
That would even things out and then both parties would be doing non-reversable transactions:
- PersonA sends Paypal F&F to Escrow - PersonB sends BTC to Escrow (or directly to PersonA)
Once BTC TX has confirmed (to avoid double spends etc)... escrow forwards the Paypal money to Person B.
