10221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto-currency fragmentation, should we be worried? on: July 11, 2016, 10:42:05 AM
So, as I figured... for the most part (the casino example aside), the only reason you'd want to get involved in altcoins is to get in on the ground floor when you can pick them up for next to nothing... then, market them hard, pump them up on the exchanges and then dump as many as you can for the largest amount of bitcoins you can get  before the price crashes Undecided

I suspect this is why I had pretty much never heard of any of the altcoins before stumbling across the altcoin forum here. As I see it, the general population have at least 'heard' about Bitcoin, as there have been the odd story here and there in the mainstream media (most of it was typical talk to some half assed "cyber security consultant" talking head for a sound bite when the silk road thing blew up)... However, what has there been about altcoins? zip...

Seems like the way forward to make lots of $$$ out of this cryptocurrency stuff is to create an altcoin and run an ICO while running a cloudmining/HYIP/guaranteed results investment program Tongue
10222  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto-currency fragmentation, should we be worried? on: July 11, 2016, 08:44:58 AM
Thanks for all of the informative answers. The common thread seems to be that altcoins allow for (testing of) new features and maybe new/fixed mechanics to show proof of concept with regards to fixing "flaws" in Bitcoin.

I understand the "more" anonymous thing and faster transactions... but other than that... what else could an altcoin provide that Bitcoin doesn't already?

Or am I too focused on just being able to send "money" to someone, relatively privately, relatively quickly with relatively small fees? Are there actually some "whiz bang" features on offer from other altcoins?
10223  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Crypto-currency fragmentation, should we be worried? on: July 11, 2016, 02:36:45 AM
So, being relatively new to Bitcoin and crypto-currency in general, I have been looking around at all these "altcoins" that have sprung up following the relative success of Bitcoin... I assume because the value went from mere cents to ~US$650 per Bitcoin, so those who missed the Bitcoin boat are trying to launch new currencies to emulate that success and make $$$  Huh

My questions relate to the possible fragmentation of the crypto-currency segment with all of these altcoins popping up and what this may mean for crypto-currency in general.

For starters, it seems like there is a new "ICO" popping up every other week, each new altcoin possibly fragmenting the market that little bit more. Do we really need more than one crypto-currency? What are the advantages of "altcoins"?  Do they offer any real benefits above Bitcoin? If so, what are they? Because I don't see the point, other than to create an artificial trading market??  Huh

10224  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Coince is gone... YAPS! (yet another ponzi scam!) on: July 10, 2016, 10:44:07 PM
Phew... I was about to invest in this site! Lucky it collapsed before I did (I was going to invest yesterday wo would've earned no profits and lost some bitcoin as a result.
If you don't mind, may I ask why you were considering investing in a scheme like Coince?

Was it the (ridiculously) high returns on offer? Was it that you felt the need to "do something" with your bitcoins? Was it the slick looking website with lots of "information" (but little actual proof of what it was they were actually doing to make money)?

I'm just curious to understand why people keep getting sucked into these fairly obvious ponzi schemes. Honestly, with the way the global economy is at the moment, anything offering more than 5% PER YEAR is likely to be very risky and/or a scam. There is no such thing as "easy money" unless you want to get into criminal activity or gambling... but the risks involved there are also high, as are the penalties for losing.
10225  Economy / Investor-based games / Coince is gone... YAPS! (yet another ponzi scam!) on: July 10, 2016, 09:43:06 PM
Well, can't say I am surprised.  Undecided

The website is down, and already this facebook groups has popped up "Coince Victims"

Hopefully some of my warnings on the threads here helped prevent at least one person from investing in this very obvious scam. As a community, we need to stamp out this ponzi scam business by not investing in these schemes. The only way they will stop, is if it is no longer profitable. So, please don't give them your money!

10228  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Coince.com - 2% Daily for 30 Days! on: July 10, 2016, 10:50:56 AM
Wow... just a trail of hit and run 4 (coince) post newbie registered today, following the coince.com bot format... in this thread.

As I mentioned in the other coince.com threads, my gut feeling is that this campaign of fake posts has sprung up as they are planning on calling it quits soon... someone mentioned that they have been up and running since May... so they must be getting close to the end of some of their 60 day "contracts" and are just trying to get every last bit of investment, so they can run before people start complaining they can't get their original investment money out.

Please DO NOT invest anything in this scam.
10229  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Hashocean or Coince? on: July 10, 2016, 10:47:59 AM
EDIT: TLDR; I know that it is probably a scam, but a couple of websites say they might be OK, so I'm going to invest
Dude... seriously??

They're been up and running since May... the first lot of 60 day contracts will be starting to expire soon. Why do you think there has been a flood of newbies posting the same "I got paid!" claims in the last day or so? They all have 4 posts, they all fit the same format, they all post in the same threads and ONLY the coince.com threads.

The scammers are trying to get every last little cent "invested" before they pull the plug and run before people start complaining that their 60day investment has ended and they can't get their money out.
10230  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: coince.com scam or true on: July 10, 2016, 10:39:59 AM
And another hit and run 4 (coince) post newbie registered today, following the coince.com bot format...

Seriously, at least TRY and mix it up... you scammers are embarrassing yourselves with your half assed attempts at posting here... maybe try posting some fake screenshots from your fake accounts showing fake payments from your fake business...  Roll Eyes

My gut feeling is that this campaign of fake posts has sprung up as they are planning on calling it quits soon... someone mentioned that they have been up and running since May... so they must be getting close to the end of some of their 60 day "contracts" and are just trying to get every last bit of investment, so they can run before people start complaining they can't get their original investment money out.

*bullshit snipped*
*more bullshit snipped*
*even more bullshit snipped*
*still more bullshit snipped*
*seriously, who is paying for all these sockpuppets?*

Can I play too?

<Insert poorly worded comment thanking admin for paying on time and/or being honest here>
<Insert meaningless text that supposedly shows me getting paid by ponzi scheme here>

*bonus points for crossposting to all (unlocked) coince.com threads*

Please people... for the love of all that is good about cryptocurrency... DO NOT give any money to these obvious scams and if you do, DO NOT come here whining about it when you get burnt and they disappear with all your money.

10232  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: coince.com scam or true on: July 10, 2016, 02:53:05 AM
EDIT: beaten by XRay... lol...

So many newbies who all signed up today, have exactly 4 posts in the same 4 threads saying pretty much the same thing... #seemsLegit #notAtAllSuspicious  #noBotsToSeeHere Roll Eyes

I predict that sometime in the next few weeks, we will move from "is coince.com legit?" type threads to "coince.com is a SCAM!!1!!1111!!!!one!eleven!!!!" type threads.

Pretty much like every cloud mining/HYIP/Ponzi scam that has graced these forums.

Looks like the Secondstrade.com rates got reduced:

You need to be patient and wait for izanagi to get online and update the spreadsheet he is going to properly check your posts.
And if you are in the list then you are accepted.
Just wait man.
Might want to prepare for an extended wait... Izanagi has been offline for nearly 10 days now.

10235  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: XAPO Hot Wallet Service did turn into SCAM! BE AWARE ! on: July 09, 2016, 10:54:38 AM
The thing is... my Xapo wallet still works fine. Granted, I don't have anything close to 1BTC in it... in fact, it barely has close to 0.001BTC Tongue

But I can still log in and send/receive bitcoins to the account. So what is happening here, is that a few users (I think there was more than one?) are having some issues with Xapo, and throwing around SCAM accusations, because they're upset at the poor service and that their bitcoins are unavailable to them. Fact of the matter is, Paypal freezes peoples accounts all the time and people don't label them a scam. Annoying and shitty? yes... scam? no.

If they have blocked the OPs account because he violated the ToS, well... then it depends on exactly what ToS they are claiming he violated. If they're playing the "issue violations on technicalities" game, and failing to provide any sort of customer service to help resolve the issue, then that sucks and shows poor management and customer service on Xapo's part... but that doesn't make them a scam. It makes them a crappy Bitcoin wallet.

10236  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: July 08, 2016, 10:23:12 AM
Not a problem.

Glad that I was (hopefully) of some use. In the short time I've been on Bitcointalk.org, the forum has been immensely helpful, so I just wanted to try and give something back. I'd like to take up a sig campaign at some point, so I know this thread and all your work so far has been super helpful in pointing me in the right direction.

Everyone was posting updates about the individual campaigns but it was spread across several posts/pages... so I figured that seeing as I had some spare time, I might as well make myself useful Wink

Let me know if you need any help going forward. I'd be happy to help if I can Smiley
10237  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: July 08, 2016, 03:44:12 AM
Have added in the SafeDICE.com campaign. Note that it appears that it is currently full.

Updated full pastebin is here: http://pastebin.com/1akHCGMx

The short table has been moved here to keep the thread from getting too cluttered.

@SafeDICE Support,

Suggest you update the thread title to reflect that the campaign is full... ie. "[FULL] SafeDICE.com Signature Campaign - Weekly payouts up to 0.025 BTC + bonuses" or "SafeDICE.com Signature Campaign - Weekly payouts up to 0.025 BTC + bonuses [FULL]" Wink

Also, I have added your campaign details to the Sig Campaign overview thread, as one of the users pointed out that this campaign has just started.
10239  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Looking for a micro job (captcha typing etc.) on: July 08, 2016, 02:41:10 AM
I think you missed the point, the OP is wanting a job to earn bitcoins. He is not looking to buy any services/products. Wink

10240  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Xapo Wallet safe? on: July 08, 2016, 01:23:50 AM
To the users posting here that Xapo is safe, can you please clarify what you mean by safe?

To me, it seems there are two different definitions of safe with regards to online wallets:

1. Safe as in - "The system is secure and hackers can't get into my account and steal my bitcoins because it has 2FA, cold storage vault, insurance etc"
and
2. Safe as in - "They are trustworthy company that will not 'steal' my bitcoins by freezing my account for arbitrary reasons/shutting down the service, as they hold the private keys for all my bitcoins and I have no way to retrieve my coins if they do"

IMHO, Xapo probably fits definition 1, they seem to have the external security stuff worked out. However, no one can prove (or disprove) that they fit into definition 2. This doesn't just apply to Xapo, this applies to pretty much any online wallet that doesn't give you full control of the private keys.

Ask yourself, how much money would you hand a stranger and ask them to look after it for you? If the answer is less than you currently have in Bitcoins in an online wallet, you probably want to get yourself a desktop/offline/hardware wallet that you control.
