9601  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit HD - whole wallet now unconfirmed - will pay for help on: May 22, 2017, 12:59:33 PM
Geoffrey,

As has been fairly obvious from all the "Password does not unlock the wallet" errors recently... MultiBit HD is a bit broken at the present time. The devs are apparently aware of the issue (https://github.com/keepkey/multibit-hd/issues/982) but no fix is currently available.

I have coded some python scripts that can extract the addresses and associated private keys from a MultiBit HD wallet file that contain unspent transaction outputs (ie. they have coins). It is a little technical, but not impossible to walk someone through via Skype.

Another user also coded something similar but I can't vouch for that software...

If you know anyone vaguely "computery" they should be able to get one of these recovery tools running for you so you can move your private keys to a different wallet (like Electrum).

I'd offer to meet up and help out, but it is a 25 hr flight from New Zealand Wink

Just randomly I chucked your txid into viabtc to see if it had your transaction in their mempool... it said  "Acceleration Succeeded"... at 0043 hrs!?!! Shocked

https://bitcoinaccelerator.info/  this one can help you
I'd suggest avoiding that website and ignoring the shill... it looks like a scam where they are just charging you $5 now dropped to $1... and then probably just submitting your transaction to ViaBTC accelerator (or worse, doing nothing)... they even copy/pasted the "FAQ" from ViaBTC and left in the bit that it is free!?!!  Roll Eyes and then edited it after i called them out

SCAM Website:

Actual ViaBTC accelerator:

DO NOT, I repeat... DO NOT give any money to this website...

just tried it... just feel it...have you tried that ever??  https://scamaccelerator.info/
Can you prove this in any way at all? Perhaps a video showing you submit a low fee transaction that gets magically accelerated...

Was originally $5 (via coingate payment processor, now $1 after i called them out)... ripped off ViaBTC TX Accelerator (direct copy/paste which has since been edited since I called them out)...

ViaBTC FAQ:

Original bitcoinaccelerator.info FAQ (before edit, while trying to charge $5):

i don't think they are scam. i again confirmed 3 tx with this website free of cost..as they started this service free of cost.. i think he is a independent miner.  https://www.scamaccelerator.info

So we should trust a newbie account with 6 posts... which are ALL pretty much just "spam" about an "accelerator"... setup by an "independent miner"... that is apparently "Cooperating with main Bitcoin pools"... ummm what?? that charges $5... (although just dropped to $1 after getting called out as an obvious scam) and that has ripped info directly from ViaBTC (a well known mining pool)... riiiiiiiiight...

Good work on updating your website to remove the direct copy/paste of the ViaBTC website... shame I already have the screenshot... #tooSlow #obviousScamIsObvious

9607  Economy / Gambling / Re: Are provably fair gambling sites really provable? on: May 22, 2017, 10:33:16 AM
Not sure exactly what you are asking, but most in house developed games in the Bitcoin gambling world are provably fair.

Provably fair works for most games that aren't dice, as they are based on random number generators, which is the perfect set up for a provably fair game.
In regards to poker i.e.,  I have never heard that players can request a seed in advance?

And if you play slots, you can take a look at the seeds in advance?
Yes... of course... Assuming it is a legit gambling site...

They even explain the methodology used to turn a random number into the game result:

You can do similar things with Blackjack:

and Roulette:

At the end of the day... pretty much any game can be worked out as relating to a "random number"... all they do is assign a slot "image" or a playing card to each number generated...

9611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to Do CPFP? on: May 22, 2017, 06:46:15 AM
i see a post in the youtube regarding this, here the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUJyfz0QQXw
A pretty good little tutorial that explains nicely what you need to do... EXCEPT he made one really critical error... he forgot to take into account the size and fee of the first transaction. When doing CPFP you need to calculate as:

Average sats/byte fee = (Trans1Fee + Trans2Fee) / (Trans1Size + Trans2Size)

If your average sats/byte fee is not high enough, the CPFP might fail... and you'll end up with two unconfirmed transactions! :-/
9612  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Check actual fee size electrum wallet on: May 22, 2017, 06:43:19 AM
Goto: Tools -> Preferences -> Fees

Tick "Dynamic Fees" and also "Edit fees manually"... and I'd recommend setting the "Replace-By-Fee" option to "Always":

When you go to send a transaction, it should enable you to use the slider, but also see the "absolute" fee:

For the record, I highly recommend you don't just type a number in unless you are sure you have calculated it correctly. Otherwise you are likely to end up setting a fee that is too low and your transaction will get stuck.

9613  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Cannot spend full electrum balance? on: May 22, 2017, 06:18:55 AM
Can you take a screenshot of the "Send" dialog... if possible can you also click the "preview" button and take a screenshot of that (block out sensitive info like addresses if you want, that isn't important)...

I ask because it will enable us to see the size of the transaction, how many inputs etc... and whether or not you are misinterpreting how the amount+fee are being displayed.
9614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Please Help Me, Unconfirmed Transaction on: May 22, 2017, 06:13:25 AM
as am trying to understand how the bitcoin works. i did make a transaction with high fee yet its unconfirmed. this really gets me confuse over and over
please take a look at this ? best solution for me would be Huh

High fee?? Huh "Fee per byte 115.892 sat/B"

Ummm... No.

Yet again... Your fee was way too low. The current recommended fees are much higher (and have been for a number of days now):

The fastest and cheapest transaction fee is currently 300 satoshis/byte
The current best transaction fees 247 Satoshis/byte | 0.00247 BTC/KB

Goto this link: http://www.mocacinno.com/feecheck.php?txid=7ee83027850dd8d5d9380dbd075c4db52033f459db53ca6236fb505671ca707a

It has a number of options available to you for getting your transaction confirmed (both free and paid options)

Seriously, stop using blockchain.info... it is rubbish. Get a real wallet that calculates fees properly.
9615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unconfirmed transaction 4 days please help me on: May 22, 2017, 05:22:03 AM
but weird, the date changed from the 15th to the 19th
any ever hear of that?  I know I requested the withdrawal on the 15th approx 830p est
Something is rebroadcasting your transaction, hence the new date... what wallet are you using? (with a 120 sat/byte fee, I'm guessing blockchain.info)

As for your transaction, your fee was way too low. The current recommended fees are much higher (and have been for a number of days now):

The fastest and cheapest transaction fee is currently 300 satoshis/byte
The current best transaction fees 238 Satoshis/byte | 0.00238 BTC/KB

Goto this link: http://www.mocacinno.com/feecheck.php?txid=eb4bbc38b826858fdfc1db05d0888b38a5484199620762d1cf7f20513664f7c9

It has a number of options available to you for getting your transaction confirmed (both free and paid options)

Additionally, your transaction spends an input from an unconfirmed parent transaction. Until this parent transaction confirms, there is zero chance your one will:

NOTE: If you attempt to use the ViaBTC TX Accelerator... you will need to accelerate the parent transaction first.
9616  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Not existing transaction, help!! on: May 22, 2017, 05:17:37 AM
Not only is it a double spend... but it has no fees??!? Huh Shocked

Quote
FEES 0.0 BTC

Sounds like your old wallet software screwed something up... I'm surprised it even got accepted onto the network with zero fees... most nodes would just reject it, so I'm not surprised most block explorers have ignored/dropped it.

Depending on your wallet software, you should be able to rescan or rebuild the blockchain and get your coins to show again.  I'm not sure if Bitcoin 0.8.3 beta supported the -zapwallettxes command... it is very old
9617  Other / MultiBit / Re: Bitcoinwallet (multi-Bit)is empty after reset blockchain and reset transactions⁩ on: May 22, 2017, 04:26:27 AM
The multibit.key file is just a text file. You should be able to open it with Notepad (or the text editor of your choice) and see your private keys. The keys should start with a 5, K or L and look like a bunch of random characters (a bit like a bitcoin address)... something like this:

5Kb8kLf9zgWQnogidDA76MzPL6TsZZY36hWXMssSzNydYXYB9KF

FYI: DO NOT post these online or send them to anyone

Once you have your private keys, you don't have to sweep them into Electrum... you can just import the private keys into a new wallet (see steps below). Sweeping is just recommended as it means the coins are placed into a standard HD wallet and can be recovered using just the 12 seed words used to create the HD wallet, rather than having to back up each and every private key for every address you ever use.

I would highly recommend that you do not continue to use MultiBit Classic. It is very old and is no longer maintained or supported by the developers. MultiBit HD has some major issues at the moment, so until the devs fix that, I would not recommend MultiBit HD either.

Also, please note, that importing the keys into Electrum doesn't mean that they disappear from MultiBit Classic. You're really just creating a copy. So if anything goes wrong, you'll still have MultiBit Classic as a backup. As long as you have your private keys (and no-one else does) you'll be able to access your coins.

If you have any other questions, just ask.

To do an import into Electrum:

Step 1. Select "File -> New/Restore"

Step 2. Give your new wallet a name (I suggest something descriptive, so you can tell which wallet is which)

Step 3. Create the wallet file (you can change the storage location on this screen).

Step 4. Select the wallet type, I suggest you leave as "Standard Wallet"

Step 5. Select the type of keystore. Here you MUST select "Use public or private keys" to be able to import.

Step 6. Copy/Paste the private keys from your multibit.key file (NOTE: one key per line... just the key, don't include the datetimestamps at the end!)

Step 7. Create a password. (I also recommend ticking the "Encrypt Wallet File" box for added security)

Step 8. After a (hopefully short) wait... you'll see all the transaction history for all your addresses/keys

Optional: If you want to double check the addresses imported, goto the addresses tab:

If you don't see the "Addresses" tab, you can enable it using: "Wallet -> Addresses":

If you don't see any addresses on the "Addresses" tab, click the little ">" symbol(s) so they become "v" symbols
9618  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Newbie in need of help please. Reward if you can help on: May 22, 2017, 02:02:50 AM
I've uploaded the code (Java+Kotlin) to https://github.com/hexafraction/wif-repair. The relevant files containing executed code are in https://github.com/hexafraction/wif-repair/tree/master/src. The program does not perform network or file I/O. The entry point in main.kt is for the command-line interface; JavaMain's main method runs the GUI.
Wow... that is some very thorough coverage of the search space for likely possible typos, case sensitivity AND transposition errors! I think that code should cover almost any transcription error that the OP is likely to have made while recording his private keys Smiley

Thanks for posting it up... I'm sure that others will find it very useful.

HCP said:
"...0.00022977 going to what is probably a change address of coinbase..." is this some kind of fee?
Nope... Unlike normal fiat "banking"... when you "deposit" coins into a bitcoin address, they don't all merge together to form one balance and you can then just send a specific amount and that is all that is taken from your account.

Instead, what happens with bitcoin is that they stay as the amount that got put in... for example, if you receive 1 BTC, 0.1 BTC and 0.01 BTC from 3 different transactions, what you actually have is 3 "chunks" in your account that add up to 1.11 BTC... Think of it like chunks of gold in a little vault.

When you want to send coins to someone else, you have to hand over enough complete chunks to make up the value you're trying to send, and the miners break off the required amount and give you back the rest as "change"...

So say you now wanted to send 0.05 BTC to someone... your wallet would start looking through your vault at the chunks available... and would see that 1.0 is probably too big (but could be used if we don't find anything else), 0.01 is too small, 0.1 BTC is just big enough... so you hand over your 0.1 BTC chunk... and tell the miners, you guys get to keep 0.0001 BTC for helping out (miner's fee aka network fee)... the miners take your 0.1 chunk, break it up, send 0.05 to the other person, keep 0.0001 for themselves... and give 0.0499 BTC back to you as "change".

You now have a 1.0 BTC chunk, a 0.01 BTC chunk and the new 0.0499 BTC chunk in your vault...

So, in your situation, the 0.0022977 that coinbase got is like the 0.0499 in my example... it is the leftovers of the chunk they sent (0.05) after the recipient (you, 0.049013) and the miners (0.00075723) got paid their shares.

I hope that isn't too confusing...  Wink
9620  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Did Blockchain Charge Me For This Transaction? on: May 21, 2017, 08:25:42 PM
Suggest you stop using fiat/$ amounts... and look at the actual amount of BTC transacted... the BTC/USD rate is constantly moving and just confuses everything... Also, different services use different conversion rates... which confuses things even more... ie 1 BTC on coinbase is probably shown as a different $ amount compare to 1 BTC on blockchain info

Your transaction: https://blockchain.info/tx/51c090f1081687bf0b6ce8fbda28ecbaf61f88b70eb24eee4e368bd4c74e1d02

Shows that 0.05 BTC was sent out (presumably from coinbase)... with 0.049013 btc going to your Blockchain address... and 0.00022977 going to what is probably a change address of coinbase...

The miners fee was 0.00075723 BTC...

What I am guessing has happened is that you said... send "$100"... coinbase went ok... $100 = 0.049013 btc... it needed to add the fee to that... so 0.00075723... it uses a 0.05 output, deducts 0.04976853 from your account, sends you 0.049013, gives 0.00075723 to the miners... and sends 0.00022922 back to itself...

Blockchain gets 0.049013 into your account... and because a. the rate has moved and/or 2. they use a different conversion rate... they display it as only $98...

Everything is a giant mess and everyone is confused...  Tongue  Roll Eyes
