That is exactly the way i feel A_McGriff

COGS are a critical part of everything in life. it also rolls off the tongue. people get an instant mental image when they hear the word COGS.

It is simple yet says a lot. people associate the word COGS with precision, and machinery running well etc. nobody thinks of anything bad when they hear COGS.

Opertum, MEANS veiled in Latin? Huh

Nubibus MEANS shrouded. Huh

Nummi in Latin which MEANS just coin or cash but was also the name of the money in circulation and was used by the Roman and Byzantine empires. Huh

shinobi MEANS "to steal away; to hide". in Japanese Huh

why is it so important to come up with a name for a coin that means something else, especially shinobi it means to "steal away or hide" WHAT Huh

something to do with steal away or hide is as shady as it gets IMHO. i would never look at a coin that means steal away or hide. just sounds suspicious

COGS needs no explanation to any person in any language what so ever. COGS are a universal word. (it is so simple that it is almost brilliant)

Why does the word BITCOIN sound so good to so many people HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh??

BECAUSE IT IS ORIGINAL. AND IT DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING ELSE. a bitcoin only means a bitcoin, so people can then interpret that in their own way.

there i had my little hissyfit   Cheesy

Your the best DOGEDARKDEV. loving all of your work. i really do believe that if COGS is not right name. then leave it as Dogecoindark. people are looking Now.

[/quote]

I like the emotion you are bringing to the conversation. Although I cam up with a few, IMHO I don't think any of the suggested names are exceptional. I was trying to get some more conversation going about the subject and look what happened! I just think this sort of thing needs more time and discussion. We need every single person who is a part of this coin to actually spend some time sitting down and thinking of good names, and with time, one will really resonate with everyone. It's in my humble opinion that we can come up with a name where 2/3 of the people involved with this coin will agree on the name change. I don't think that is too much to ask.

How are people deciding exactly (i.e., what factors are in important in choosing a name)?

EDIT: Can we agree that if the name is dogecoindark (which I'm fine with) or shinobi, that doged will remain a tribute coin and tied to another identity?  I'm not saying that's bad or anything - I'm just kinda curious as to whether I'm alone in having that assessment.

How are people deciding exactly (i.e., what factors are in important in choosing a name)?

Hi Mr Felt, my important factors would be

Originality     understood by all languages      straight to the point     easy to pronounce    no hidden meanings    a referral  to a physical thing     Marketable    Catchy helps

if you look at names like     Ripple    Ethereum   Dash    Stellar    BitShares   Nxt    Factom    Monero   they are original, in that there is no mention of the word coin.

not to mention they are 8 of the top 15 Market Cap coins, including Bitcoin. (might as well say 8 of top 14 coins if you remove the number 1 coin) Cool

but i think they only cover original from my important factors. I can't help but feel that COGS covers all of my important factors.

Originality =yes
understood by all languages =yes (everybody in the world understands what a cog is)
straight to the point =yes (cogs are understood as precise and integral parts of many things)
easy to pronounce =yes (cogs) see!  Wink
no hidden meanings =yes (a cog is a cog)(and they are very important in a lot of things)
referral  to a physical thing =yes (I believe cogs are real) Undecided (aren't they)
catchy =yes (how many cogs for your car m8)(he wants how! many cogs for his motorbike) etc
Marketable = yes (i would think that a cog is fairly easy to Market) cogs are a must if you want things to work properly.without cogs we cant ride push bikes or motor bikes.
or drive cars. or have machinery. Heck even relationships need a form of cogs to work properly.

again these are only my opinions. I'm just happy that i have these great coins. Grin

Yes, of course.  I did not mean to imply otherwise, and I apologize if that post comes across that way.

To clarify - I interpret the fundamentals and foundations of DOGED to be solid, and this interpretation is the premise underlying my participation here. My question is/was supposed to be ontological and asked in the vein of a self-inquiry about what the DOGED community might want from a name and in an identity. In other words, I'm' talking about philosophy and not about technology or trading.* Practically, the inquiry concerns how to evaluate cosmetics options associated with a chosen identity-building/re-branding strategy.  Nonetheless, whatever outcome emerges from the current re-branding inquiry is certainly not a deal breaker for me. For now, I'm just enjoying what could be really a deep discussion and trying to test some ideas.

*Dogedarkdev's clarification is fair given that I used the phrase "tied to" which sometimes gets used in a technical and trading sense in digital currency communities.  I will try and put an alternative phrase in its replace later.

"Unit" of what?
That's the point. It's a unit of whatever they call "cryptocurrency" in whatever country. Other cryptocurrencies can be measured against it. Just a measurement device for money. Since it is the "base unit" the nomenclature can be metric.

1 megaunit = 1,000,000 units
1 kilounit = 1,000 units
1 hectounit = 100 units
1 decaunit = 10 units

It would be a base unit for money.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base_unit_(measurement)

this is an interesting idea. especially because this coins supply is big enough that most people could potentially use the term kiloUNIT or even megaUNIT.

between this, COGS, and shinobi, I'd say we are coming up with some pretty cool names

I believe any names that are brought up, should have reasons why that name is worth considering ?

And by reasons i mean, not just because it sounds good. but of course sounding good, would be one of the many reasons needed.

lets have some actual debate as to reasons why a name is worthy of being selected, for such a unique and original coin.

Such as Marketing slogans, or how people might possibly perceive a certain name, or how the name best relates to this coin, or how easily the name is pronounced, etc etc.

small example : The COGS REVolution  get it COGS REVolve  . yeah maybe a bit lame, but i had a go  Undecided

The easier things are to understand for people, the more understanding people we will have  Huh

Discussion and taking time to think this out seems like a good idea.
I have had the name "COGS" kind of grow on me.
My first thought was that it sounded too simple, but then realized that simplicity could be a good thing.
It is easy to pronounce, one syllable I believe (not sure how to count the "s"), and basically a gear mechanism that makes something happen, so it shows action/activity.
It also has the "cog" in there, maybe a carryover of it's [in(cog)nito] roots.
The coin logo could have the reeding made larger to make it into a cog, so the name could also be symbolized by it's logo.
The DogeCoinDark name got my attention a while back, but since it isn't exactly a copy, with "dark" attributes it may not be a perfect fit.
Probably time for the coin to stand on it's own too.

on the subject of the name change to "UNIT", i fear there is already a coin that goes by that ticker

https://bittrex.com/Market/Index?MarketName=BTC-UNIT

although the coin itself is not called UNIT (its name is universal currency) it would be very easy to get the two confused if we were to go that route.

there is also MonetaryUnit (MUE) - too close to UNIT - no good.
