If Djokovic can go in a crowd, watching basketball with 30,000 people then for me he is already vaccinated.

Maybe he doesn't want to tell the public about it because of his anti-vaccine since the beginning.

But have been taken the jab already even prior to the news of Australia requiring everyone to enter their country full vaccinated. So my personal opinion is that he is vaccinated but doesn't want to tell it to the public.
I tried to stay out of all this vaccination stuff since it should not be part of the sports but since it is only thing worth talking about in tennis at the moment...

I don't think he is vaccinated. To get into that basketball game he probably just needed negative covid test and that is much more fair solution in my opinion. I get it that governments want more people to do it and that is why we have measures as we do but vaccinated people can still spread the disease, granted not us much as non-vaccinated but still when you have big gatherings you have to either remove all the measures all require negative test from everybody. Everything else is half measure and discrimination.

If he got the job, he would issue some statement for sure. It is not something he will be able to keep as a secret even though it should be everyone basic right.

True, as much as we wanted to stay out of it, we have to discussed it right now because it involves the top seed and we are still in the pandemic and everyone is really affected by it specially that we have a new variant and we should protect not just ourselves but others as well because after all we are all social human being.

And with that said, the Australian government should really impose the "no jab, no play" in their country. So if Djokovic doesn't have the vaccine then let the AO organizers not allowed him to play, simply as that.

I'm not sure how exactly it works for the top seeded players and for all actually.
Can you just notify you are playing and then at a later stage confirm you have been
vaccinated? is there a deadline?

Just reading an article which is 6 hours old but could be older on https://www.express.co.uk/sport/tennis/1534172/Novak-Djokovic-Australian-Open-medical-exemption-Covid-vaccine-Scott-Morrison-tennis-news

Quote
The Australian Prime Minister has slammed suggestions that Novak Djokovic
could receive a medical exemption to play the Australian Open. The world No 1 has been in
doubt to play the season-opening Grand Slam after vaccination became
mandatory for all players, as he refuses to disclose whether he has been jabbed.
Djokovic then put himself on the entry list for the tournament but there was
speculation he would attempt to apply for an exemption to compete without being vaccinated.

It is sad that they are willing to ignore the general rules just because the impact on this case, the economic impact, is just to much to assume. So if they guy has COVID and kills a few old people does not matter as long as he is happy and they make money. This is part of a more general disdain for the rules that has been shown by many government officials all over the world, particularly notorious in the UK where parties were thrown in 10 Downing while the whole country is being told to jab, be overly careful, do not meet with people unless required,... Ashtonising.

Finally I can actually write tennis releted post Smiley

We have Abu Dhabi exhibition tournament going on. I know it is just exhibition but we have Nadal vs. Murray today which is must watch for me. Nadal getting back after long time against Murray who found some form towards end of the season and looked great yesterday. My money is on Murray @2.4 today.

@cryptofrka
We talked about Del Potro the other day and I just read he is coming back to play after 4 knee surgeries and several years without pro tennis. Hopefully it will work work for him this time around. Did not expect to see him on tour ever again.

RE Đoković: I would be ok if they told him that his movement would be restricted or that he has to fly in with a charter plane and book the whole hotel for himself or whatever.
But they are actually stopping him from entering the country, even with a negative PCR test - and he can't participate in the tournament that's being held in the open.

I know Australia has a hard stance on COVID, but I feel this is not good for anyone. I'm not asking for special treatment for Novak, I simply want sport that is disconnected from politics and a tournament in which best players can play freely without endangering anybody else.

Don't know what to think about that. He'll probably get kicked around against mediocre players. I'd be happier if he didn't return, same with Murray.

Well its the rules of the Australian Open, they have a duty of care to try and keep players,
staff and spectators safe from infection.

With the government they have the same duty of care I imagine to try and manage the
potential demand on their health service, not just for COVID infections but the pressure
a potential outbreak can put on services for other staff and patients of the health service.

So while there might be 25% of Australians not vaccinated you can be sure they dont
have the same "freedom" as vaccinated people and as regards non-nationals Australia
always been quite strict, vaccinations is just another thing they want ant can control.
@aoluain It's not only the rules of the Australian Open because the last time I checked every sport setting has set up certain rules and regulations to prevent the spread of the virus within the sports realm.
Speaking of the vaccine, I know the unvaccinated people won't have the same freedom as the people that have got the vaccine but have you?

When it comes to social events and outlets yes the vaccinated have more freedom.

https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/health-wellbeing/queensland-covid-restrictions-on-unvaccinated-come-into-effect-what-are-the-rules-c-4979214

Quote
Venues where patrons must prove they are vaccinated include cafés, restaurants, pubs, clubs, RSL clubs, taverns, function centres, bars, wineries, distilleries, microbreweries, nightclubs, live music venues, karaoke bars, concerts, theatres, cinemas, bowling alleys, amusement arcades, casinos and other gambling venues, convention centres, adult entertainment venues (including strip clubs and brothels), stadiums, theme parks, tourism parks, zoos, aquariums, wildlife centres, showgrounds, music festivals, art festivals and cultural festivals

But this is about managing the health services and trying to reduce the impact on them
by the virus, sporting events particularly the AO which runs for a number of weeks will
have hundreds of thousands of footfall, they dont want people being infected there and
they certainly want the competition to run its course without further restrictions.
I understand that to prevent the spread of the virus some certain rules and restrictions is needed to be put in place in every activity that has to do with the outdoor but in terms of giving the vaccinated individual more freedom than those who haven't gotten the vaccine because we have some situation where people who are vaccinated contact the virus and the number way to stop the spread of the virus to good hygiene practising.
I haven't gotten the vaccine and I am not planning to not even when there's some issue of the vaccinated area lighting up a bulb.

Djokovic could have taken a fake vaccine of something but he just wouldnt ,thats how he is,he wants to make a stand but this stand will cost him of participating at the biggest tournament of the years  and will cost or delay history for him. Australia has some strict rules and they dont deserve to host such a big tournament

And that is the big question, did he really go far that length to fake a vaccine and claim that he has been vaccinated so that he can play in the Australian Open?

Is he really that stupid and take the risk and then later on he will be exposed and his reputation ruin?

Or just take the jab just like the rest of the players in the tournament so that he will make them comfortable and he himself become safe to anyone around?

It seems that the Australian Tennis Federation has decided to change its rules due to the Djokovic case and allow unvaccinated tennis players to participate in the GS tournament in Australia.
Tennis Australia has repeated its claims that all players will have to be double vaccinated or provide a "valid medical exemption" if they're to compete in next year's Australian Open.
It comes amid reports that World No.1 Novak Djokovic will seek to gain a medical exemption so he can enter Melbourne Park, with the Serb set to be part of the ATP Cup in Sydney before the grand slam.

Does that mean that the Australian government and the Tennis Association of Australia have already agreed to find a way for Djokovic to still perform at the GS tournament in Australia without being vaccinated?
What do you think?
However, it seems that we are not all equal before the law and that different rules apply to some people.
What will many Australians say about this, who for almost 2 years were not allowed to travel anywhere, visit their relatives, even go to the funeral of their loved ones, due to very strict Australian Covid rules?

^^ Well it seems like that is the case, damn, I was disappointed with Australian Tennis Federation for this one. I mean changing the rules just to accommodate Djokovic in their tournament? It's not fair for others who really get the jab because they wanted to compete not just AO but the rest of the calendar games because it is now a requirement for every tennis player to get vaccinated in order to compete in their country.

@cryptofrka
We talked about Del Potro the other day and I just read he is coming back to play after 4 knee surgeries and several years without pro tennis. Hopefully it will work work for him this time around. Did not expect to see him on tour ever again.

Don't know what to think about that. He'll probably get kicked around against mediocre players. I'd be happier if he didn't return, same with Murray.

The problem with Novak Djokovic is that since day 1 of Covid he has been against it and dosent take it seriously. He held a tournament in Serbia during lockdowns and thats when he was infected aswell. But he dosent believe in it and dosent even want a fake vaccine. He is just against them and will push it to the max.

I forgot that he got Covid during that Adria tour. Couldn't he used that as excuse to get some kind of permit? I think you have same rights in Croatia if you are vaccinated or you actually already had Covid. Granted that works for maybe 6 month after getting it and that Djokovic case must have been when all this just started and probably Australia has more strict policy.

Nobody should be above the law. If Djokovic is vaccinated, he must not be allowed to play in Australia. Why was he given a medical exemption? I would love to see the grounds for this exemption, coz no one I know who has tried to get one ever succeeded. Of course we'll never know and the press; who these days, seem to do a better job of hiding the truth than exposing it, won't tell us either.

I understand that to prevent the spread of the virus some certain rules and restrictions is needed to be put in place in every activity that has to do with the outdoor but in terms of giving the vaccinated individual more freedom than those who haven't gotten the vaccine because we have some situation where people who are vaccinated contact the virus and the number way to stop the spread of the virus to good hygiene practices.
I haven't gotten the vaccine and I am not planning to not even when there's some issue of the vaccinated area lighting up a bulb.

Even vaccinated individuals could still catch and spread the virus which could also affect individuals who aren't receiving any dose of vaccine. As for me, there should be a fair right for everyone regardless of their vaccination status. It shouldn't be a privilege but rather a right for everyone to choose what they want. I think we could still enjoy different sports if we'll only try to apply and basic practices to avoid being infected.

As far as I understand, Djokovic just applied to perform at the GS in Australia, but the certificate of vaccination he don't need to give now but when entering Australia, which is logical because we know that Covid certificates have a limited duration.
So, Djokovic is only on the entry list for the GS in Australia, and it is a completely different story whether he will be able to enter Australia without vaccination or not.
Covid's rules in Australia are very strict, probably the strictest in the world and I would be really surprised if the Australian government decides to make an exception for Djokovic.
I think such a decision would infuriate many Australians who have been banned from traveling to Australia or outside Australia for 2 years, even with a Covid certificate or if they have been vaccinated.
It would be a very controversial political decision with very big consequences and I do not believe that any politician in Australia would risk that much, even if it because of Djokovic.

I don't understand why Djokovic is freaking out so much about it. It is not like he would have a disadvantage if literally all other players are vaccinated as well. Look at Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich in soccer, rejected to get vaccinated and now his lungs suffer from infiltration and as he is now prone to myocarditis he won't be able to play this year and perhaps even in the beginning of next year.

It's his beliefs mate and that's why Djokovic doesn't want to take the jab.

But it is so unfair for other players if he will get the exemption, again the argument that star players are given star treatment which should not be the case here.

If he doesn't want to take the vaccine, then so be it, no jab no Australian Open chance for him next year.

That's definitely an opinion I would support here. I also have no problem with anyone deciding to not take the vaccine, but it shouldn't be at the cost of people who try to demonstrate solidarity for society. No special treatment for special people should be a major principle to be adhered to during this pandemic (and always anyway).

In my country nowadays we get to see frontline workers reaching home to verify whether everyone vaccinated. If someone haven't got vaccinated, they were requested to get vaccinated. Most of the people agree, and there might be few exceptions. Same as this is most of the players. More rumours were around, which is the reason for high profiled people getting exemption.

We are living in a world where the government has the final say in everything and I could remember correctly when Morrison first make a statement about the Australian Open that unvaccinated tennis players would be exempted to compete at the Grand Slam once they undergo quarantine before Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the opposite.
I just hope a lot of people won't have the understanding that once they get a full shot of the vaccine they are free from getting the virus.

Let's keep the covid stories apart, what is wrong with Nadal ?! is this the end for him ? is it going to be like how Andy Murray ended up ? I know it's just an exhibition and he just acme back to the field from a long time, but losing against Murray 2-0 and then against Shapavolov is really concerning, he can't compete for a big title with that level, I was expecting a normal comeback but it doesn't look good for him, let's hope it's just about time and he'll be back in shape.

Let me just correct you mate, even if you have the jab, you can still get the virus though.

But the good thing is that it will lessen the effect on our body because we have the vaccines, at least you have fighting chances to live instead of 0. Specially that we have a new variant, everyone should get one as Omicron is more deadlier but again, with a jab the full effect of the virus is somewhat subdued.

So everyone should take the jab and there should be no exceptions from any government.

Okay, let's talk a little bit about tennis results, for a change  Grin

Andy Murray was unable to cap a strong week in the Middle East with a win as he lost the Mubadala World Tennis Championship final in straight sets to Andrey Rublev.
The Russian world number five won 6-4 7-6 (7-2) to secure the title at the exhibition event in Abu Dhabi.
Despite the defeat, Murray said he was optimistic as he continues to try and reignite his career after having two major hip operations.
"I have been pretty healthy over the last three months, I've got to play a lot of matches," said the three-time Grand Slam winner, who is working with coach Jan de Witt after his split with Jamie Delgado.

"I just need to find a way of turning some of these matches against the top players around and hopefully I can have some big runs in the biggest tournaments again, that's my goal.
"I'm trying as hard as I can to do that."

To me personally, Murray has always been a sympathetic player, and if he hadn’t had so many injuries, he probably would have had an even bigger career, with a lot more tournaments won and wins.
The very fact that he achieved everything while they were active and playing the three greatest tennis players in history says it all.
I remember for a while there was even talk of the big four of world tennis but the story went the other way and Murray was stopped by a number of injuries.
I congratulate him on his great will and enthusiasm but I am afraid his time is up.
What do you think?

^^ He was really on top during his prime, and that's why we know them as big 3 or big 4 with Murray in the picture.

Unfortunately, amongst the 4 he was really the first one to crack, I mean his body really took a tool too early in his career and wasn't able to extend his dominance with a injury and then the big 3 takes over. I do hope that he can still reignite his career, but I have said before, it will be difficult and I doubt that he will win another tournament.
