Djokovic was the better player after first 3 games when he upped his aggression. That is why he is still number one. When plan A is not working he switches to B then C..... until he finds something that works.

agree on this one
all the best players are doing that, and you can see that happening several times on Djokovic - Nadal matches, both players changing their tactics to find the best one, that works

regarding the match, I barely watch it, but was sure that Djokovic will somehow managed to win it in the end
I don't watch until the end, just on leg 1 when he loses (4-6), I think the situation will the same as US open when he loses (4-6,4-6,4-6), yes the same number as I can see Deja Vu because of that I'm going to sleep. Surprised me, when I look at the result, he turns things around, Lucky him not going lost for 4, just stop to 3. (4-6,6-3,6-3). Congrat for Jokovic and congrats for keeping as no.1 until this year.

I took the risk and bet on Djokovic ML here, 2.09 for a boosted odds.

I know that Medvedev is really hot right now and destroying every one. But I think Djokovic will still wanted to prove that he is the top tennis player and wanted to get back at Medvedev in this finals. He has beaten Pete Sampras record already as the longest number 1 so he might want to keep it that way.
it seems that your intuition is really honed by choosing the right one even though it is risky.
but on the other hand these two players are quite good but it is a pity that in some servs Medvedev is distracted by the audience which is actually very detrimental for Medvedev.
but the match has ended and all must accept this result gracefully.

Thanks mate, when I see that Djokovic lost in the first set, I thought that it will be all Medvedev already.

But we all know that Djokovic has this ability to lost the first set but then comeback in the last 2 sets and win the game.

My only regrets is that not betting on the over, my bet will also be a win.

https://i.imgur.com/lrpsqfC.png

Good though that you have cash out early, most of the time, I don't take advantage of this
Congrats on your win, I had two bets in this match ML on Djokovic and over 9.5 in the first set, just like you when Medvedev was able to break Djokovic's serve in the first set it seemed all my bets would lose, but lucky for the over won, but for ML it seemed like it would be finish, but Djokovic was able to make it into 3 sets.
The competition between these two players will be even tighter and maybe it will happen again during the ATP Final as the closing of this year's tournament.

It was a great final and Đoković will be happy to erase that heavy US Open loss with a win against Medvedev. I thought Medvedev will cruise to another victory after winning the 1st set but he started to make too many unforced errors and Đoković knew how to take advantage.

This is his 7th Bercy win and 37th Masters 1000, with this win he broke another record. So far he was splitting the lead with Nadal (he's left with 36), Federer is a bit behind with 28.
The ultimate record is 39, held by the Bryan brothers - but that's in doubles category.

I didn't watch it because a Djokovic match is usually quite boring, he is so much better than everyone else and always wins. The US Open was an anomaly because of the immense pressure he put himself under going for the 4x slams... he is a much better player than Medvedev.

Djokovic does seem to quite often lose the first set against opponents, but you always know he win come back and win, even when it's only a first to two sets match. The only time he's really going to have an opponent at his level is against Nadal on clay. Let's hope Nadal is fully fit in Paris next year!

Medvedev is at Novak's level for me, losing against him in Paris doesn't mean anything, also don't forget he beat him 3-0 in the US Open not that long ago.
And about Nadal, It's a little bit concerning how long he has been out of competition this year, I hope he doesn't come back out of shape, which was not a problem since he took longer breaks even from and he came back strong,

The thing which sets Djokovic apart from the rest is that is can play at his
top level on all surfaces. His fitness, health and relative injury free at
his age is remarkable.

Medvedev seems to have this also although being younger of course,
but he favours hard courts.

Stockholm

Andy Murray is back in action today against Durasovic and is a big favourite to win.

I also have Fritz to beat Gerasimov.

I'll concede I may have been overly harsh there. Medvedev is certainly the best of the new generation, and can challenge Djokovic sometimes. It's just that when Djokovic is playing at his best, he is considerably better than everyone else, Medvedev included. Djokovic is nearing the end of his career now, and the top-tier opposition in the form of Federer and Nadal (and sometimes Murray) has gone away. Djokovic was close to winning all the slams last year, but against a weakened field.

Of course, he beat Djokovic in US Open, and there head to head are close as well, 6-4.

Medvedev even acknowledge Djokovic's accomplishment.

However, I think Djokovic still possesses that hunger and dedication inside of him. That's why even at his age, he can compete with this young guns and continue to win big tournaments.

Murray is the outstanding favorite, but his opponent is relatively unknown.

Nobody watching and betting on next gen finals? There are some really good matches today, most interesting probably being Alcaraz against Rune and Korda against Gaston. I went with set handicaps to try and find a bit more value so my bets are Alcaraz -1.5 since I am thinking he should win this match maybe even 3:0 but taking extra caution. My second bet is on Gaston +1.5, this is more of gut bet on a guy who is playing in great form at the moment while Korda dropped off a bit in last few weeks.

Here is some rules copy/pasted from wikipedia since ATP is experimenting with this tournament and has different rules every season.
Code:
Best of five sets
First to four games in each set
Tiebreak at 3-All
No-Ad scoring (server’s choice in 2019, receiver's choice in 2018)
Lets on serve (in 2018 lets on serve were counted "in")

Interesting that the matches are best of 5, does that not seem a bit excessive for
a non GS tournament and that they are younger players at the beginning of their career?

I have Alcaraz, Korda and Musetti to win, they have fairly good odds as favourites,
1.29, 1.45 and 1.35.

Yeah they are best of five, but they are only playing to 4 games, if there is 3-3 result they are immediately playing tie break. So in the end matches are lasting less then proper best of 3 matches. That is why I have not been able to find handicaps anywhere, I guess bookies do not have time to calculate odds for these matches since it would require significant tweaks in the odds algorithm and this is the only tournament with such rules.

Emma Raducanu just lost in Austria, the number one seed going out in her first match. It wasn't entirely unpredictable given her form since the US Open, and she looked second-best throughout - apart from a brief period at the end of the second set when she took the tie-break 7-0. The match reports are probably going to highlight the injury when she lost her serve in the third set, but in truth she was struggling to stay in the match at that point, and never really looked like winning. It must have been a huge struggle mentally after the US Open, and it will take her time to settle and gain some more experience. I do think she'll definitely be a top 10 player, but needs time.

ah yes I get it now, I watched the last 2 sets of the Korda v Gaston match, some great tennis
on display and yea the rules are very clear and actually work quite well to speed up the sets.

Ah its a pity for Raducanu, I wonder if she envisioned a more successful follow on from the U.S
open for herself? Hopefully she can work things out and get back to winning ways.

I think she will get back to winning, yes. She announced a new coach yesterday, too... Torben Beltz, who is vastly experienced and worked with Kerber for quite a while. Having a permanent coach of any sort, but particularly one who is so experienced at the top level should be a huge asset. I think she will come back strong and have a good 2022, and likely cement a place in the top 10. The last few months must have been crazy for her, but whenever I see her in interviews she seems very level-headed and rational, so I don't think this brief dip will faze her at all.

I also just read the news of her new coach and it can be a good move. He has a lot of experience on the top level so he should be able to bring her to the next level. I guess time will tell; her results on 'smaller events' are for me also less relevant, so I am looking forward to the Australian Open to see what she can achieve there.

Thats great news for Emma Raducanu and her fans. Finaly she seems to have made
a very good move to team up with Torben Beltz.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/nov/09/emma-raducanu-torben-beltz-tennis-coach-upper-austria-ladies-linz

Quote
Emma Raducanu has confirmed that Torben Beltz, the former long-time coach of Angelique Kerber,
will be her new coach as she prepares for her first full season on tour in 2022

Hopefully we will see her game develop in 2022 with some consistent wins and a good
development of her skills.

Hopefully though, with a new coach, she can go back in winning form.

I'm sure everyone is familiar on how we critic here, a few pages back after winning the US Open and then changing her coach and even compare here to Osaka.

And I think some of us might be right back then as she didn't duplicate the success up to know. So let's see how it goes this time with a announcement of new coach.

I think it is very uncertain if Raducanu will be able to reach another final anytime soon, because for me it is very much possible that she is a one-hit-wonder. We all know that the density of the quality of the players in the top 100 in the women division is pretty low in comparison to the men's division. At the moment it is possible in the womens division that you can reach a grand slam final even if you are not even a top 100 player because you don't have a top level serena williams and a maria sharapova anymore that are dominating the circuit. So to reach the final of a big tournament once does not mean that much in my opinion.

At the moment it is possible in the womens division that you can reach a grand slam final even if you are not even a top 100 player because you don't have a top level serena williams and a maria sharapova anymore that are dominating the circuit. So to reach the final of a big tournament once does not mean that much in my opinion.

I agree, it might take some time before we can see her in a Grand Slam. Not that because she didn't have the talent, but it seems there is also pressure on her shoulder. She is very young when she won the US Open and everyone is expecting her to just run off the major tournaments with that performance. Maybe she is saying in public that he is not affected by the fame, but we have seen that in Osaka's case, until to the point that she admitted to have a mental breakdown. Maybe times has change already, as there is no single lady that has been so dominant as Serena or Sharapova.
