Can the tennis season still be saved this year or is the tennis story over this year?

Seems that the tennis tournament this year will be ending on the sad note. Only few have remained in the schedule but most likely they will also be cancelled as the pandemic is not slowing down. I guess we can't do anything but to wait till next year, but it the conditions didn't improve or worsen then I don't expect tournaments to resume, specially Grand slams.

According to this article by the Index portal, https://www.index.hr/sport/clanak/tenis-se-u-2020-nece-igrati-u-kini/2200515.aspx  Tennis will not be played in China in 2020.
Tennis Professionals Association (ATP) and Women's Tennis Association (WTA) had to accept the Chinese government's decision to cancel all international sporting events in China in 2020.
Thus, the only Asian Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai, the 500 series tournament in Beijing and two 250 series tournaments in Chengdu and Zhuhai will not be held and many other tournaments.
This is certainly a big blow to the continuation of tennis competitions this year, along with all the other problems due to the cancellation of the US Open by some players.
Can the tennis season still be saved this year or is the tennis story over this year?

The US Open is still going ahead and the French Open unless that has changed already? So no tennis isn't over for this year, maybe for China but the rest of the world seems to want tennis to be played. The problem is that there are strict quarantine rules in place for most countries which makes it hard but I don't think it is the end of tennis this year. At least we get to see some tennis played even though the top ranked players won't be playing at all the tournaments.

We might see some postponement and delays about the regular schedule because of the pandemic, but I'm sure organizers are going to push it because tennis like any other sports should adjust with this new norm otherwise it will simply stop that sports, and we will not be defeated by this so called viruses.

I'm sure US and French Open will go ahead this year and other small tournaments around Europe. And we can always get up and recover if tennis will not be save this year.

This pandemic has ruined the world and our lives thanks to China. Every other sporting event is either getting cancelled or postponed. I do not know how many more days, months and years we need to live our lives like this. I hope scientists find a vaccine to eradicate this disease from earth as soon as possible.

And thanks to your /sarcasm,  Smiley. Tennis is not over yet, a lot of uncertainties but there could be tournaments that can proceed with some delays. Or if there are delays, it will not be affecting the ranking as it is frozen due to the Covid-19.  And there are a relief fund, more than $6 million to help tennis players that are affected by the current situation.

Everybody needs to adapt and it is for sure not easy; but I am afraid Covid 19 will be here for a while.

We could see a lot more in the coming days as the situation with the virus in the US doesn't seem to be slowing and more players electing not to enter the US Open which is a shame because we would like to see all the top players attending but we can understand why they choose not to attend. I do think that tennis must push on like other sports are doing but as long as the people running the tournaments do the right thing by protecting the players and staff as best they can.

The expectation of knowing the confirmation of the international tennis players who will travel to New York for the USTA’s two-tournament bubble.

It makes us keep our eyes on the statistics of cases of contagion in the USA and especially in New York to know if the conditions can be given to celebrate the event. Although the number of infections has dropped in the big apple, hopefully it will continue that way.

Quote
Who's coming to NYC? For Now Djokovic, Nadal and Serena are lined up.

Ten former event champions highlighted the initial fields, led by Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Williams, in particular, is lined up for a busy August.

Very difficult to see what will happen in all other sports, that's why I said that it will end in a sad note. Not all players are going to be present and there could be more cancellation in the future. So it's really a shame not to see them compete in this Grand Slams because of the virus because of the health risk obviously, so the excitement is ruined. At least NBA is continuing, and so is boxing. But for tennis it seems very difficult to go on around this Covid-19 situation.

Another big name is pulling out of the US Open and that is Ash Barty. Like I said we'll see a lot more pulling out due to the virus not slowing down in the US but I still think tennis can go on just like the other sports. In fact there is less risk when it comes to tennis as the players don't need to be near each other like other sports such as the NBA and football. So I think once the tennis starts up in Europe we'll see a lot more tennis played, its just the US that's the big concern right now as the virus is out of control.

I totally agree mate, the US case is not slowing down and it will be held in New York which is a big concern for many tennis athletes because of the current covid-19 situation.

So it is really going to be case-to-case basis for now. Maybe in the next tournament, those who pulled out will join and make tennis more interesting again or at least put in the headlines of sports news media.

I think you're wrong.
China has also canceled all tennis tournaments this year and many other tennis tournaments are questionable, even in Europe.
The UK has also introduced quarantine for visitors from Spain, restrictions on borders  are expected to be tightened in the autumn and all this will have a very bad effect  on the tennis season.

Agree with the bolded text, but the quarantine after the tournament and maybe before too, will be the first concern from players.

Apart from the French Open 2020 which is being held in Europe on Sept, are there other tournaments that will also be held in Europe, in this pandemic? I'm curious to know.

I have just checked and for many tournaments in Europe it still needs to be decided if they will organize it:
https://www.atptour.com/en/tournaments

At this moment, before Roland Garros, the Madrid Open and the Internazionali BNL d'Italia (in Rome) will go on as planned.

BIG WINNER!

It is absolutely true that not only in the US is the big concern related to the COVID-19 pandemic, it turns out that in some Asian and European
countries the same is true. Some tennis tournaments must be postponed, therefore fans of tennis are simply made stressed by the current conditions.
Hopefully the vaccine can be found soon, so we can enjoy a normal life again. And not only tennis tournaments are now affected by the corona virus,
but other sports experience the same thing.

I can understand what everyone here is feeling as a tennis fans because at one hand we’re eagerly wishing to see our favourite stars in action, and on the other hand we don’t want them to be infected by this virus too. Furthermore I believe that these stars also need to think for their families before coming to US, and at this stage we should support their decision irrespective of whether they’re participating or backing out of the tournament.

I wouldn't worry about what China are doing as they are not a big sporting country anyway. Yes they support tennis in a big way but just because one country won't hold any tennis tournaments this year doesn't mean its the end of the tennis season. Just look at what other sports leagues around the world have been able to do so I can't see why a hub couldn't be set up in some countries and tournaments can be played. Yes the quarantine is a major factor however I'm sure one country could host several tournaments in a 2-3 month period. I am starting to think that its coming down to money because there will most likely be no fans at the stadiums and that's where a lot of money is generated for tennis where as football they have a huge supporter base and the same with US sports so they can keep going without fans attending. Tennis is a lot smaller then most sports in the world which is why we are seeing not much tennis played because like I said its less risk with 2 players playing compared to team sports like football and the US sports.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Federer played a lot of matches in his tennis career but this match on the roof of a building with 2 girls was probably the most special for him.
Take a look and enjoy!!
Because of things like this, I really love and respect Federer.

There 2 players from different division is my most favorite player ever since. Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova. I watch their games mostly in Youtube. When I was a kid Nadal and Sharapova are the reason why I watch Tennis. When I saw the ranking Nadal is still in 1st and Sharapova listed on  the 30th maybe her age is the reason. The other reason why I love tennis, because I love playing table tennis. The similarity of the game play is very the same, the only difference of tennis and table tennis is the court. But Tennis is much harder that table tennis, because the space is much bigger.

I'm sorry but I disagree that they are not a big sporting country, although they don't have any names in Tennis, and the last player we heard from them is Li Na. But still they are big are far as sports like NBA and soccer. I would say that compare to other sports, it seems that tennis organisers are somewhat in disarray (not the players) that's why it can't go on in this new norm while other sports are trying to get back. This is just my honest opinion.
