^^ I think Federer will still aim to get at least one grand slam before he retires. His best change will be in the Wimbledon, wherein he has a good record, his body is already has the signs of wear and tear already, although he has maybe the best doctors out there, if his body will not hold then it's really time to retire and not push his body to the limits. He still need to to be in shape after retirement.

Personally, I'm most sorry for canceling Wimbledon last year because of Federer.

The grue lurks in the darkest places of the earth. Its favorite diet is adventurers, but its insatiable appetite is tempered by its fear of light. No grue has ever been seen by the light of day, and few have survived its fearsome jaws to tell the tale.

Personally, I'm most sorry for canceling Wimbledon last year because of Federer.
I think it may have been his last chance to win the GS.
This year he will be a year older and it's questionable in what physical condition.
Many athletes lost out their opportunity to perform for the one last time last year due to pandemic and many retired without even playing the sport but Roger Federer is playing the game at the highest level even at the age of 39 and if he could stay healthy and avoid injuries you never know, he might win another grand slam.

Just imagine Federer making a comeback at age 39-40 and win even one of the Grand Slams against the young generations of today. I would say it will be the pinnacle of his career because we all know that is it very difficult to do specially how his body is responding now. but with his experience and mental toughness and a big heart, he will try to do it before retiring.

i think Federer is still in a good shape despite the fact that he's 39 years old, even if he didn't play for quite a longtime, i believe he was focusing on training a lot, which could go either way, bad or good for him, another grand slam would be the best way for him to retire.

Now that would be something amazing to see Federer do this and then retire on a high. He does have the ability and experience to be able to achieve this but I would think Wimbledon is his best shot at winning another Grand Slam. I think age now days means nothing as we see it in many sports now with players able to play well into their late 30's and into their early 40's. I just think that Federer is that good of a player that he can win another Grand Slam or two even at the age of 39 - 40.

I am not feeling in this way for Federer because now time is already run out for him most chances he can go through until quarter final and semi final and final is very tough for him many youngsters doing good and they can defeat him very easily after this long break he is already touch 40 which is also not good enough for thim to return in tennis court.

A year and a half ago Roger was pretty close to win Wimbledon, he was actually one point close to win the final.
Plus, in 2017 he came back from injury after  a break of several months and nobody expected him to win the AO.
Roger is the man, everyting is possible.

Yes, as fans that's what we all wanted to see, a fitting farewell win for us if Federer can accomplished winning the Wimbledon and I would say it will propel him as the GOAT (greatest of all time) tennis player.

Just one more push, I agree that age is just a numbers now, he takes care of his body very well and I think he started all this sabbatical thingy, skipping minor tournaments to preserved his body. But we wanted to see first how he is coping and recovering from his injury and we can only hope that we will be back 100% again and then go for that final push and win a Grand Slam.

Yes, I agree that Federer was very close to winning that match but Djokovic won because he was psychologically much stronger and more stable.
For several years now, I have had the feeling that it's very difficult for Federer to play against Djokovic and usually in the most difficult moments of their mutual matches, Djokovic is better and calmer.
More for this reason, not because of age, I don't think Federer will win another GS.

So we have a discussion on the last few pages mostly about Federer and next Olympic games. Is nobody watching actual tennis these days? Granted it was just small tournaments until now but this week we have two ATP 250 tournaments and WTA 500 event in Abu Dhabi. Lot of great players in Abu Dhabi and I am taking some small bets while judging form and then hopefully betting big in a day or two. This is great part of season to catch up some surprises on handicaps.

Already cashed in on Sabalenka, made live bet on her to win when she was 5:2 down in first set and now putting profits on Svitolina. I am hoping she will recapture her old form with the start of new season. If she is anywhere close to her best she is winning this 2:0 easy.

Well that is because there was no tennis really going on until now and I think its good to keep the thread active ready for when there are tennis tournaments to talk about.

I'm mostly interested in bigger tournaments then these smaller ones and even though there are some top players playing, I see not much interest in them. Anyway soon most of the top players will need to make their way to Melbourne Australia because they must quarantine for 14 days and with the AO started early February they only have a week at most to make their way to Melbourne and start quarantine.

Some leading tennis players are more leading than others Wink Although most of the leading tennis players will go to Melbourne for quarantine, but for the leading TOP 3 tennis players, both men and women have made an exception and they will go to Adelaide to participate in the exhibition tournament. Jeremy Chardy has already publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that for the most leading tennis players they make exceptions and exemptions in the quarantine regime.

Here are the updates to spice things up:

Quote
Australia’s world No.1 Ash Barty and eight-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic (SRB) will lead the fields at what promises to be a historic Australian Open at Melbourne Park from 8-21 February 2021.

“We are looking forward to welcoming the world’s best players to Melbourne and what promises to be a spectacular Australian Open following a year of disruption on a scale none of us has ever experienced before,” Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley said.

https://ausopen.com/articles/news/worlds-best-players-contest-australian-open-2021

So yeah, all eyes are in this tournament, the first Grand Slam for this year that's why those those smaller tournaments are not getting the attention.

Unfortunately, the new tennis season also begins with a doping scandal.
''World number 29 Dayana Yastremska says she is in "shock" after a provisional ban for failing a doping test.''
She will most likely not be able to perform at the Australian Open.
Who will be next?

Unfortunately, the new tennis season also begins with a doping scandal.
''World number 29 Dayana Yastremska says she is in "shock" after a provisional ban for failing a doping test.''
She will most likely not be able to perform at the Australian Open.
Who will be next?

This is not good to see in any sport and yeah I can't see Dayana playing at the AO.

Lets hope that there are no other players that test positive for banned drugs.

I'm really looking forward to the AO as it feels like its been a very long time since we last saw a Grand Slam tournament, well that is how I feel. I guess its because Wimbledon was cancelled last year and we only saw 3 Grand Slam tournaments, maybe that is why it feels that its been a long time not seeing a Grand Slam tournament.

I was unpleasantly surprised when, despite all the difficulties caused by the pandemic, Roland Garros and the US Open were held, and Wimbledon was canceled, despite the subsequent holding of the Final ATP Championship in London. With all due respect to the ATP Finals, but Wimbledon has a richer history and in extreme cases it would be possible to try to hold the tournament in the same locations where the Final Tournament was held.

I'm quiet shock to see a female caught with a ban substance in her body. Obviously, she can't play at the AO and for sure it has sent shock wave to the whole tennis industry as doping are very seldom in this sports. Nevertheless, she has to suffer the consequences.

Just full month if I'm not mistaken and there are reports that some players are going to be quarantine either in Sydney or Melbourne.

I also feel sorry for that girl, who most likely ruined her promising tennis career with this doping.
Not to end with bad news, Ana Konjuh, a girl from Croatia (and great tennis hope), returned to tennis after a long break due to injury and defeated German Ann-Len Friedsam in the first round of qualifications for the AO, 6:2, 6:7(5), 6:4.

Isn’t it a little strange that these tennis qualifiers for the AO are being held in Dubai?

No because this was the plan all along and the Victorian government was happy for these qualifiers to be held in Dubai and it gives the players enough time to get to Melbourne and quarantine. From what I could understand why they did it this way was to restrict less players coming into Melbourne due to Australia's strict quarantine restrictions so that only the ones that qualifier will be the only players coming into Melbourne instead of all the players. Its the first time in history that this is happened but I can see why they decided to do it this way. I hope this helps better understand the reason behind this.

There are many problems with the use of doping in the tennis world, this is not a surprise. Hopefully with a lot of tennis players being caught
using doping makes other players not do the same. Because it doesn't just hurt the body, it's a tennis career too can be ruined. So I hope
that in the future there will be fewer cases related to this doping.

Regarding Ana Konjuh's victory, it can be predicted for me, because I have been paying attention to Ana's appearance for a long time. And there is
no doubt that Ana Konjuh is a young, talented tennis player, Croatia is lucky to have a tennis player like Ana Konjuh. Moreover, Ana Konjuh's track
record is also very good, having won junior events at the Australian Open in January 2013, and also won the girls single event at the US Open
the same year. So Ana deserves to win against Anna-Lena Friedsam.
