But basing on previous Olympics, I haven't seen or seldom see tennis Olympics on clay surface for that matter.

It's been hard surfaces historically. Maybe there's one schedule release pre-pandemic for tennis in Japan but obviously everything has change already.
You are right most of the tennis matches in the Olympics are on hard courts, only a few apart from the hard courts, 1992 Barcelona Olympics on clay and the French Olympics 2024 are likely to be the same on clay
http://www.tennisnow.com/Blogs/NET-POSTS/September-2017-(1)/Roland-Garros-Major-Role-in-2024-Olympics.aspx

but, it is obvious that Olympics tennis tournament should be on clay, if any reason, for Roland Garros, since that is one of top four tournaments in the world of tennis

with that said, I am not sure could Nadal be fit for those Olympics, what is your opinion on that?

for Tokyo, hard court is probably an unchanged option, and that would be suitable for Djokovic to take first title, he is always good in Asia, and he would not lack any motivation for that title, although there will be fierce competition, AO will provide better picture what these "young" lions can do against Novak, it is his battleground there, after all

Nadal had been injured so many times that it had already become normal for him  Cheesy
For Nadal, Roland Garros is definitely the most important tournament of the year and everything else comes after his favorite tournament.
Given Federer's physical condition and age, and Nadal's injuries, Djokovic has the biggest chance for an Olympic gold medal but we should not forget young players like Thiem, Zverev, Medvedev etc.

I agree, I think its going to be an interesting Olympics next year when it comes to tennis as I think both the Men's and Women's will be competitive. I actually think a young talent will win as Thiem, Zverev and Medvedev have had a very good 2020 even with what has gone on with this year. I think all three players will take a lot out of this year and we may seen one of them rise to the top of Men's tennis in 2021. But Djokovic would have to be the one to beat at this stage but again a lot depends on what happens in 2021.

In recent years, despite his age, Federer shows that he still needs to be reckoned with and it will be interesting to know how his training will be built and what tournaments he will participate in. I wouldn't be too surprised if Federer pulls out of a couple of Grand slams, probably including Roland Garros. As you know, Roger does not have a singles title at the Olympic games, so he can try to make a main bet on this tournament.

Frankly, of the big three, Djokovic, Nadal and Federer, I personally think Federer has the least chance of winning new Grand Slams.
For the past few years Federer is simply not at the highest tennis level and he loses his most important matches.
Do you remember the last Wimbledon tournament?
I think it was Federer's last chance to win the new GS.

But he himself admitted that it will take some time before his body heals, probably mid of 2021. So it will be too late for him to make a comeback and win Grand Slams.

As for Olympics, yes, his chance are getting slimmer, as the young generation of tennis players are slowly taking over the game including the Olympics on both men and women side.

Federer gave up from AO, and I think that he is only thinking of Tokyo Olympics, that this is his primary motive, and GS are far from reach for him at the moment, maybe another Wimbledon, but it is questionable could Federer play even on grass, and all other surfaces seems to extensive for him to play, he is almost 40, and those years are for retirement, not to get titles

nevertheless, it would be nice to see some tennis, when the season start

I am also curious how long Federer thinks he can continue playing tennis. You sometimes see football players continue for a long time, but tennis seems more difficult to me.
Lots of fast, explosive movements constantly. He has so much talent that he can continue for a few more years, but he will slowly have to say goodbye to the absolute world top.

At some point he really needs to decide, whether this year or next year. You can see his body now, and how it response to rehab and it's not looking great to be honest. And he already said that if he feels he doesn't have anything left it the tank then he will retire.

Most probably he is chasing another grand slam or the olympics next year before he finally retire. Or maybe just waiting for those young guys to step up their game which is already happening this 2020.

I think Federer is going to retire this time if his knee injury kept him suffering.
The funny thing is it's been over a decade since the talks of Federer retiring have been around. He had some downs for a few years in the last decade but for last few years, he have been competitive as any youngster. With a age of 40, it's good to retire when you are still on top.

I'd like Federer to retire after Wimbledon and the Olympics.

He's one of my favorite athletes of all time and by far the best tennis player I have ever seen and I really don't want to see him losing to mediocre players and playing below a level expected from an all-time great.

Yes, Nadal will almost certainly win another Grand Slam and become no.1 in that segment, Đoković has an outside chance to be the best as well, Federer simply cannot fight it anymore.

I think Federer understands it himself that's why we can't see him playing many clay court tournaments where he doesn't have any chances to win. but on grass he is still way ahead of many young players.

Yeah it has now been confirmed that Federer will miss the AO which is a shame as he has been playing at this grand slam for the past 20 years so it will be different not seeing him play. The Olympics is one of his targets most likely but I really think its Wimbledon as I think playing on grass surface is much better for his body and knee where as the Olympic surface will be hard courts which might not suit him coming back from this knee injury. I have a feeling that he might retire in 2022 as he will use 2021 to get back to 100% match fitness again if all goes well for him. I think that he would want to end his career playing in all 4 grand slams before he retires.

I'd like Federer to retire after Wimbledon and the Olympics.

That will be a cinderella story for his career if he both win those, specially the Olympics.

He's one of my favorite athletes of all time and by far the best tennis player I have ever seen and I really don't want to see him losing to mediocre players and playing below a level expected from an all-time great.

Of course, those who have been following tennis in the last 20+ years have seen one of the greatest player of all time. Perhaps he will retire if he is losing to unranked and mediocre players, it means that he doesn't have it anymore.

Yes, Nadal will almost certainly win another Grand Slam and become no.1 in that segment, Đoković has an outside chance to be the best as well, Federer simply cannot fight it anymore.

I think those 2 will be the one left, before it was the big 3, and when Federer retire, Nadal and Djokovic will carry the torch of old generations.

AO will provide some answers what other can against Djokovic, he should win there, and will be interesting to see what others can do to stop them
although I really like Nadal, I simply do not think he is able to pull AO title, but Medvedev and Thiem could make some difference, Thiem had great chance this year, but blow it up, next AO could prove different, maybe even Zverev, but I do not see him as within favorite list

regarding Federer, it is hard to expect him to win Olympics or Wimbledon, but I would give him more chances on Olympics

It is a pity that Federer will miss the AO but it is better that he is 100% before competing. We can only hope that he can reach the same level as before. Look at Murray...

Why do you think Federer has more chance to win the Olympics? Grass is his favorite underground and he already won 8 times Wimbledon, so I think if Federer wins another title it will be Wimbledon.

Why do you think Federer has more chance to win the Olympics? Grass is his favorite underground and he already won 8 times Wimbledon, so I think if Federer wins another title it will be Wimbledon.

it is number of matches and "best of five" sets rule, that I think he is not able to pull out seven matches in two weeks, no matter the surface being as fast as grass, his favorite

on the Olympics, it is supposed only final to be on "best of five", so it is easier to get those matches in short interval, and he is good enough on hard surface as well, so there is his chance

nevertheless, I think that his chances are slim on both tournaments, he is just not up to his game, due to ages and injuries, and other players are in good shape, too
with all that said, can't say that I would not like to see him getting another GS

Grass surface is not nearly as fast as it was before - especially in the 2nd week of the tournament.

I also think Federer's chances are slim on both tournaments but physically, the Olympics games format should suit him better. It is shorter and there's a chance some of the top players will not even be there due to the qualification requirements.

I'm not to sure that hard would suit Federer after coming back from his knee injury as hard courts can be hard on the lower part of the body especially the knees. Also if the courts are fast then I don't think it will suit him which is why I think Wimbledon is a better fit for him right now as its less strain on the lower part of the body. Anyway lets just see what happens because he first needs to get 100% fit and healthy.

To be fair, any surface would be difficult for Federer now, assuming his body is really ageing, evident of his injury now that took a long time to heal. But him being a competitor, he will push his limits again if he ever comeback and it might hit him hard that could end his career or think of retirement.

^^ I think Federer will still aim to get at least one grand slam before he retires. His best change will be in the Wimbledon, wherein he has a good record, his body is already has the signs of wear and tear already, although he has maybe the best doctors out there, if his body will not hold then it's really time to retire and not push his body to the limits. He still need to to be in shape after retirement.
