The players getting upset about the quarantine doesn't make sense because they knew that this could happen even before they landed in Melbourne. There was a conference call with the players but a lot of the top players didn't attend the call and now make out they didn't know about this. I think that they should all be grateful that the tournament is going ahead and that every player earns 100k in the first round anyway. I would sit in quarantine for 14 days to earn 100k. 70 players are now in quarantine with 5 people associated with the event have tested positive to the virus so it is going to be a very difficult task to keep this under control and for the virus not to get out into the public which is the main concern right now.

Right, so now comes the blaming period, LOL, that's really said knowing that we are still in the quarantine and most players not even the top, really knows the condition but they chooses to go because after all they love the sports. Money is good, I agree, but this players needs to understand the current situation and shouldn't complain. We don't want other cancellation and everyone's cooperation is needed 110% so that this tournament will happen without any major glitch.

I agree mate. Yes I can understand that it will be hard for the players but they must also understand that we are living in very difficult times and that they should be grateful that the tournament is going ahead. Well we hope it still is going ahead as more officials and players are testing positive to the virus which is not a good sign.

I'm now thinking that maybe the tournament should of been pushed back to maybe early March and just lose some of the smaller tournaments because we all want to see the Grand Slams being played this year.

Yes, it could be a good and valid argument. Push back the tournament for a month  and then see how it goes if players will return as negative or positive. Then obviously, those who are positive can't play. And then some of the minor tennis tournament should be push or totally cancel to give way to the more important and big tournament in the future specially Grand Slam event. I'm sure players will understand that, afterall we are still in the pandemic and everyone should be adjusting to situations.

The players I feel for right now are the ones that have tested positive to the virus as they will not be able to play for sure. I think this could of been handled a lot better with all the players arriving at the same time and not some one day and then some the next day and so on. It could of been done where every player that is playing in the AO arriving at the same time and yes it can be done with extra planes to bring the players in. Then have the AO pushed back an extra 2 weeks for players that do test positive to have a chance to get over the virus. Anyway lets just hope for a good AO without any players testing positive during the tournament as that could be a disaster.

^^ Perhaps it was a big misjudgement on the part of the organizers to not let everyone get inside Australia on the same day and tested and then quarantine for good. We still have a lot to learn and adjust to this new norm. This is the first Grand Slam of the year, so I would say there are big pressure on the organizers to make this 'perfect' as possible, but they slip.

Just wish them the best that no players are going to be tested positive because we all know that it will really impact not just this tournament but the remaining schedules again.

Yes I think so, I do however think the organizers made the right decision to have the qualifiers played elsewhere and not in Australia however it seems as though they got it wrong with the arrivals coming into Australia as yes I think they should of tried to have all the players and officials arrive on the same day or within a two - three period. Then which ever players or officials test positive they can self isolate. Also maybe the players and officials should of started to arrive earlier but anyway lets just hope that all goes well during the tournament. I do think that it is very difficult for organizers to get it right with the current situation.

Unfortunately it has now become official, Andy Murray will not be performing at AO this year; ''Five-time finalist Andy Murray will miss the Australian Open after a solution to find a "workable quarantine" following his positive test for coronavirus could not be found.''
Was this his last chance to perform at AO?
A great player and great talent but too many injuries and accidents unfortunately.

I good article to read:

Let me just quote a few,

https://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_/id/30738246/quarantines-questions-continue-2021-australian-open-readies-play-amid-pandemic

Quote
Craig Tiley, the tournament director, has publicly insisted the event will not be delayed further, despite the current challenges for many of the players, and he rejected other modifications, including the suggestion of men's players playing best-of-three sets as opposed to the normal five.

..

Some players have publicly expressed their frustrations to the current situation, including Alize Cornet and Roberto Bautista Agut, who are both in the "hard quarantine" protocol. Novak Djokovic, the World No. 1, provided a list of suggestions to Tiley to help the impacted players. All were met with heavy disapproval by the Australian public, which criticized the players' lack of awareness to the larger societal issue in relation to the virus, and the three players have since issued apologies.

So it seems a go and no further reschedule are going to happen, kudos to Tiley, who are working hard to let this year's AO to be run despite the Covid-9 restriction. And for players, they need to really cooperate and regardless if you are the top 10 in both men and women, there should be no biased or favoritism.

The authorities in Australia are very strict about protection and should be congratulated on that.
Thanks to this, and in very difficult circumstances due to Covid, the tournament will still be held which is great news for all fans and tennis players.
For tennis players it's difficult to be locked in a hotel room but they also realize now that this is the only way to hold the tournament at all.
I can't wait to see the start of the tournament and whether Djokovic will get even closer to Federer and Nadal by the number of GS wins  Grin

Australia has been and continues to be one of the strictest countries in the world when it comes to covid-19. I think now the players are understanding this as like you said its the only way that this tournament can go on. There is still debate about fans being able to attend the games and I think as we get closer to the start of the AO we'll get a better understanding on the fans allowed to attend games, of course if they do, the numbers will be low.

Yes, tennis players needs to realized that the organizers is doing this for them, they could be feel frustrated, but this is the new norm and they have to understand that. Australia is very strict because they know that one mistake will really derail everything for them, not just tennis, but all other sports schedule on the country. So it make sense that the strict protocols they have laid down will be fair across all athletes. As far the fans in attendance, I reckon it will be reduce maybe 10k, give and take.

^^ That's good though, and maybe those who are complaining or bitching around is those who really don't understand the extend of the situation and instead going to social media to voice their frustration. And now they made a U-turn statement and the good thing is that the organizers are talking it positively.

And now we have this one: World's top tennis players to participate in exhibition matches in Adelaide ahead of Australian Open.

All the players should be very grateful that, despite the Corona pandemic, they still we be able to participate in grand slams and earn good money. Almost all amateur sports are not allowed anymore in Belgium... Good to see that big names as Nadal and S.Williams come out and back the strict rules around quarantaine.

BIG WINNER!

The players are now allowed out of quarantine so they have just over 1 week to practice and get ready for the AO. I like the idea of the exhibition matches in Adelaide as it will help get the players some match practice ahead of the AO. Now we just hope that no player or officials test positive to the virus because it could impact the AO start date.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Yes, at least with this kind of exhibition match, players can go out and practice interact amongst themselves to get the boredom because of the quarantine. Maybe this is also to gauge the safety protocol they've implement, if the exhibitions turns out to be successful (with no players and officials being positive to the corona virus), then it could also be smooth for the real tournament. Just a couple more days before the AO begin, I'm sure tennis fans are excited.

It seems that good news for AO has finally come   Cheesy
''Australian Open tennis players begin to exit hotel quarantine'' https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-55851073
''Australian Open to allow up to 30,000 fans to attend per day'' https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/55866539

It seems that the situation is returning to normal and that the tournament will still be held as planned, which is great news for all tennis fans.
I still can't believe that the fans will be allowed to enter as well  Cheesy
This is a really nice surprise and restores hope for a better tomorrow and the return of fans to other sports as well.

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/55749046

Sad news, I like watching Murray but after all his injuries, he didn't get back to the top level that he had before. In my eyes, he should call it a day and retire. He had a nice career winning 3 grand slams and winning 2 times Olympic gold.
Lets hope that Federer, when he comes back out of injury, can reach his old form and win another Grand Slam.

BIG WINNER!

Yes its sad to see he couldnt get a solution to a quarantine from his positive COVID-19 test.

This is more of the consequences this pandemic is creating.

Maybe we will see Andy back playing Doubles at AO next year? After all he did win Queens
in 2019 with Feliciano Lopez, there are still opportunities surely?

Yes its looking great right now so lets hope this continues because a positive test could changed everything very quickly so lets hope no one tests positive during the tournament. Its good that they are allowing some fans in to watch the games as sport just isn't the same without the fans. Not long to wait now, just a little over a week, I can't wait as the AO is my favourite grand slam.

Yeah, Murray would love to try again, given that just in his career, just missing the title at the Australia Open, but there were 5 lost finals. Former Murray we are unlikely to be able to see. In general, I was very surprised when I heard that Andy returned and continued to play, given all his health problems and what technical things the doctors did to treat his spine.

Latest news from Australia:
''Six tennis tournaments played simultaneously at one venue during a pandemic - that is the feat Melbourne Park is aiming to pull off next week.''
After all the problems due to positive players on coronavirus, quarantine and all other controversies, players will finally get a chance to get out of their hotel rooms and compete in various tournaments.
It seems that the most interesting competition will be the ATP cap where Djokovic will lead Serbia, and all other tennis players such as Nadal, Thiem, Medvedev will also perform for their countries.
I can’t wait for tennis competitions to finally start  Cheesy

Anyone looking at the odds now?

My boy Stefanos Tsitsipas seems to be very attractive odds, so I might throw some just for fun. LOL.

What do you think of the odds though? Better to get your bets early to enjoy some juicy odds. Even Djokovic @2.2 is very good odds for a favorite.
