This game cannot end with draw because the two team are playing hard to make sure there is a winner in this tennis league. Federico will surely defeat Filip Krajinovic  1-0 because Federico is playing with experience which is making he to be close to the position to win the game.

Too bad for Thiem that he lost the final. It was, as expected, a close match but I thought that Thiem would win. Luckily for him, he won the US Open, so this season is still a big success. It is great to see that the young talents are breaking through but they need to be able to maintain this high standard all season long. Next big appointment is the Australian Open which is coming in 2 months.

BIG WINNER!

I agree it was an epic match between two great young players, it was good to see the young talent finally play off in a final. As I mentioned previously, Medvedev has been in top form leading into this tournament and I thought that he had a good chance at winning. Time will tell though if the young talent can continue on with this as it has been a strange year for tennis and still the next generation players still need to prove them self in grand slams. Ok yes Thiem was the US Open but would he have beaten Djokovic if he was there in the final? So I think next year we'll see how well the next gen does in grand slams as they are the more important tournaments.

Yes, it's too bad he lost, but Medvedev is really playing very good tennis as of late as well.

Winning against, the top 3 seed in one tournament is already an accomplishment for Medvedev this year. Not an easy win for him specially against Nadal, who try to fought back in the third set, same as Djokovic. Next year will be huge for this guy, as they are catching up already.

The "world cup" format of this tournament, with a group stage then a final stage, meaning both finalists have played some of the same players, and may have lost a match during the tournament, is really interesting, I didn't know about it. I will follow it more closely next year.

The format was confusing to me at first. They probably did that to allow more games for spectators since it's the final tournament of the year. It's also here where almost every game is an epic match. The expectation is high since they're the cream of the crop and they deliver most of the time.

I thought that I would let everyone know in here if they don't already know that the Australian Open will most likely be pushed back this year. Right now the organizers are currently in talks with the Victorian government on players and staff on how the quarantine will work. I understand the concerns of this as it was hotel quarantine that started Victoria's second wave. So the plan is to start the Australian Open in early February instead of the middle of January like it normally is. The tennis will go ahead, but not sure about the lead up tournaments as there is talks about them also right now.

So if Thiem, Medvedev and others can start the next year tennis tournament with a big win in Australian Open, maybe there is a argument that there are competition already and we might see the changing of the guards. If not, they the big 3 will still be there trying to fend off the challenges of this young set of players as long as they can.

next year could be a turning point for the young players as they showed the ambitions. maybe this year they lacked experience during Grand Slam tournaments but for the next year they've received it.

Thanks for the heads-up mate, February push will be fine, probably the government of Australia will need to re-assess first before allowing the Australian open.

I do hope that they will allow fans though to watch the tennis match, but in a control crowd with minimum spectators just like the rest of other sports so at least it will be more fun to the players and fans as well.

@nikola22 - yes next year will be a turning point and there are a lot of tennis articles saying that maybe the big 3 is slowing down and being challenge by this young players.

The main concern right now from the Victorian government is the number of players and staff coming into Victoria and how they will be able to quarantine as right now there is a 14 days quarantine for anyone coming into Victoria so it could be hard for players to quarantine for this long. Its looking like the AO will most likely start February 1st now so 2 weeks later then normal but we shall see as tennis Australia and the Victorian government are still in talks and hope to get an answer by Friday.

Good at least there is some progress, probably a two week stay in a hotel to control and test the players themselves and security protocol for spectators. I don't mind the date being push to February, at least we can see tennis again as it's going to be exciting 2021 because of the high hopes for this young players.

This is the start of the Grand Slam, so everyone expecting that it will happen and Kudos to Victorian government, at least they are not shutting down their doors to ATP Australia and willing to sit up and have a talks on how to proceed next year's AO.

Although detailed measures are taken, most of the players are involved in the quarantine period in some way. The disease has restricted most of our social areas, I hope they find permanent solutions in a short time.

@Kemarit the organisers will have a big challenge on their hands, as Australia has strict 14 days quarantine rule and this is strictly being implemented in the cricket series between India and Australia, and hence I feel that even Tennis player’s will be subjected to the same 14 days quarantine rule. Furthermore in my personal opinion even if the tournament is delayed it’s really fine, till the time organisers can guarantee that it’ll be organised in the coming months.

Yes this seems to be the main issue right now as the players will also need to quarantine for 14 days. The issue is with the players being able to practice while in quarantine. Hopefully we find out more today as its Friday here in Australia and that is when we should get some news on this.

@Juggy777 - yes I agree, it will be a nightmare for the government and the organisers itself. But we can't make the covid-19 an excuse for every major tournament, sooner or later we have to device ways to have the game resume even if delayed, we can understand that.

@vella85 - yes mate, I'm optimistic that everything will be settled down around January in time for the push on February for the AO.

I saw this on a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZBpOpzIRu4

Key takeaways
- Players aren't allowed to come to Australia before January 1.
- Jan. 5-7 player's travel period
- Jan. 25 for qualifiers
- Feb. 1 to officially start

I don't know about the location where players are supposed to stay and supposed to practice but can't they do what the NBA organizers did last season?

Who is going to bet that an Aussie would win the AO tournament? hehe

Yes February 1st is looking like it will be the official start date for the AO. Also from what I understand the players will be able to practice while in quarantine which is good for the players as this was their main concern about the 14 day quarantine. Australia is very close to eliminating the virus as cases numbers are staying below 10 daily and most are from people returning from overseas and are in hotel quarantine so I think we might also see a good number of fans at the tennis if all goes to plan and the case numbers remain low and in Victoria there hasn't been any cases for 28 days now which is even better for the AO to have fans.

Ok good to hear that mate that the spread is somewhat contained in Australia for now so there is a big possibility that AO could happen this year with fans. So I think the players need to be in Australia in January quarantine for a 2 week period and then games begin Feb 1 which is doable for players.

@Yogee - I do hope that an Aussie will win next year AO, Nick Kyrgios?  Smiley, I can't remember though who was the last time a Australian men won AO, closest to my mind is Lleyton Hewitt, not sure though, maybe he didn't win.

The last time I saw Nick play he was too emotional. He plays great when he's on fire but he's still inconsistent. COVID presents a good opportunity for him to win so we'll see. It happened to Thiem and he can be that guy too.

I also thought Lleyton was the last Aussie to win the AO but I was wrong when I looked up his stats. He reached the Finals once but lost to Marat. I didn't bother checking further.
