Djokovic won almost everything he could in his career, except for Olympic gold.
Knowing his ''hunger'' for victories and records, I think next year’s Olympics will be one of his main goals.
He believes that he is the best tennis player of all time, which means that he must be the best in everything, in all competitions.
These Olympics, given his age, are his last chance for a gold medal.

Same applies for Federer and he already won Olymic gold (although only in double). While Djokovic believes he is the best player every, I think he is only ranked 3rd, in my eyes far behind Nadal and Federer. I think Federer also has the most natural talent, I always enjoy watching him play.

Good news for us tennis fans. The Australian Open has been giving the green light to go ahead in 2021 however as we expected it will be delayed by 2 weeks and the start date is now on Monday February 8th. However I also read that ATP 250 events have been confirmed to not be taking place in 2021 due to the virus pandemic which is a shame but at least we will get to see the first grand slam of the year being played.

That's good news! Lets hope Federer will participate in this but he needs to be 100%.

From the latest reports it looks like Federer will miss next years Australian Open which would be a shame as he always seems to play well at the AO. I don't think he wants to rush things as I think his main target might be the Olympics and Wimbledon.

Thanks again for the update, this is really good news for us, again the delay is good no worries as long as the AO will go on for 2021. However, as I posted before, it seems that Federer will completely miss the AO and possible another Grand Slam in calendar for 2021 as he hasn't recovered as expected.

As for the ATP 250, I guess the government really weigh everything here, cause and effect and decided that AO is very much important that the lesser known tournaments.

Many tennis players are seriously preparing for the Olympics and wants to win that Olympic gold medal, like Murray, Federer, Djokovic and many others..
Only one tennis player will succeed and it seems to me that Djokovic has the most chances.

That's a good question, Djokovic will probably have the best chances but if you look at the latest winners of the Olympic games, it is not often that the big favorite wins the gold.
The younger generation is also coming up strong with Thiem, Zverev, Medvedev, so I wouldn't place a bet on Djokovivc to win gold (or maybe only low stake if the odds are good).

I agree, Djokovic has higher chance to win the Olympics as let's say compare to Federer and Nadal. But Olympics is very different though, that's why we haven't see top seed winning it as often as they can. Obviously, the games happened every 4 years so a lot has change since then. But Murray was able to get back to back golds.

And since the young generation of tennis players are like catching up, I wouldn't be surprise if any one of them get the gold medal next year if Olympics are going to proceed as schedule next year.

I actually think that it might be a younger player winning the Olympic gold medal next year. I'm not sure about Federer as he would love to win Olympic gold however he might just concentrate on getting fit and healthy for Wimbledon as I think that would be his main goal for 2021 and everything else comes second.

Yes, mate and with the rate of younger players development this year, any of the big 4 might be having a hard time specially this coming Olympics. Federer chances will be slim as he is still recovering from all the injuries and still on the rehabilitation phase.

And it's going to be a toss up as well for this young generation of players, each one of them has strengths, but I will assume that the surface will be grass or hard or any surfaces that are fast and many young players are really good at his kind of surfaces.

I agree mate, I'm not sure what the playing surface will be but as its in Japan I was thinking maybe it will be hard court like most tournaments are in Asia.

It is now confirmed for sure that the AO is going ahead in February as tickets went on sale yesterday however there will only be 25% of fans allowed to attend matches so there isn't a lot of tickets on sale. I'm just happy that the AO will go ahead and now that they have released tickets its even a better sign as long as everything continues the way its been with 0 covid-19 cases locally.

Yup, it will be played on hard surface. It was announced already for the 2020 games and I'm positive they will keep the same format.

Single draw will be 64 players (both men and women), best out of 3 sets. Only men's final will be best out of 5.

About the  Australian Opens whilst was postponed to next year (February) i read that the Victorian government plan is to quarantine all the tournament contestants for 14 days.
Remember, Djokovic have won the tournament seven time and hes one the player to lookout for in the game.

Can you provide a link cause i couldnt see any details about the game even through espn.

You are referring to Olympics? The date hasn't been finalised yet and Japan and IOC doesn't want to compromise the health of athletes and all involved so there's no definite date as of yet. But basing on previous Olympics, I haven't seen or seldom see tennis Olympics on clay surface for that matter.

It's been hard surfaces historically. Maybe there's one schedule release pre-pandemic for tennis in Japan but obviously everything has change already.

You are right most of the tennis matches in the Olympics are on hard courts, only a few apart from the hard courts, 1992 Barcelona Olympics on clay and the French Olympics 2024 are likely to be the same on clay

This is what would have hapened if the tournament was held in 2020.
https://tokyo2020.org/en/sports/tennis/

Quote
At Tokyo 2020, the tournament will follow a knockout format with men's and women's singles and doubles competitions, and a mixed doubles event that was first contested at London 2012. Matches will be played on hard courts, which is the usual surface for the Olympic tournament.

Hard court is the most common one during the Olympics but of course that the 2012 London games were played on grass in Wimbledon and that the 2024 games in Paris will be played on clay.

Footing the information i think to be updated about the Olympics game postponed, the date of the game is already finalized as once said by a user i think it will kick off from 23 July to 8 August 2021while the Paralympic games will be on August 24 to September 5.
Meanwhile, the Olympics game have been played on various surface and the location/country where the game will be held will determine the game surface

@vella85  - it's good that fans are allowed for next year's AO.

And as I have said before, the Australian government and ATP are really doing a good job here not to skip AO, so it's a win-win situation.

For Olympics, right, fast and hard court surfaces, might be suited for young generations of tennis players, fast pace and perhaps Federer body's might not be able to adapt it as it is now prone to injuries although he is one of the best on hard court.

I'm just happy to see the AO going ahead because it was looking like it wouldn't. Today is a big day for sport in Melbourne as the cricket Boxing Day test match starts with 30% of fans allowed to attend so we will get an idea on how it will work ready for when the AO comes around. This is the first sporting event in Melbourne since the ICC T20 Women's cricket final for world sport. I just hope it all goes well as I think the Victorian government is using this as a test to see how well it goes ready for the AO in February.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Yeah, if this event becomes a success then pretty sure AO will be as well. If I'm not mistaken, cricket is bigger than tennis in Australia so this will be a good gauge, a yard stick sort, of future bigger sporting events going to be held in Australia.

I'm sure it will goes well, pretty much the Australian government has laid down the framework of proper safety handling and protocols for fans and athletes.

Nadal had been injured so many times that it had already become normal for him  Cheesy
For Nadal, Roland Garros is definitely the most important tournament of the year and everything else comes after his favorite tournament.
Given Federer's physical condition and age, and Nadal's injuries, Djokovic has the biggest chance for an Olympic gold medal but we should not forget young players like Thiem, Zverev, Medvedev etc.
