They need to skip 2020 data next year.

This is not some official ATP data. It's from a database, where I then analyzed how the Top10 players did betting-wise in 2018/2019. So, if there will be any more matches played in 2020, of course there will be data (and odds) that could be analyzed by interested people.

Tennis and especially the tournaments live very much from ticket sales/spectators/crowd, so while I think football will resume in May in some countries, Tennis is still far away from that. Otoh for WTA tournaments in China it basically makes no difference if it's offically with or without spectators, since no one attends anyway Cheesy

Did anyone see the news about Federer practising in the snow hitting the ball against the wall. At least he is back practising which is a good sign but like we have been saying its not the same as match fitness but that goes for all the players right now.
You should have post the link here mate.

Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvmIy2T8meU. You can simply search it in Google.

Ok, I found the link thanks mate. So I guess Roger is really looking forward to compete after he recovered from his injury. And basing on that video, it looks like he has recovered tremendously. But that video doesn't say anything at all though. The test of his injury will be really on a match in a center court.

@tyKiwanuka - thanks for the data as well. I wonder though why Novak is in the negative when he was in the winning stretch 2018-2019. Maybe I'm missing something here.

The answer is pretty simple: Odds Smiley

The data I checked is only for 2019 and he won 83.08% of his matches that year. 83.08% in terms of odds is ~1.20. His average odds when winning a match in 2019 were only ~1.13. So with flat staking you needed him to win 8 matches, before you could compensate one loss money-wise. But in reality he only won 5 matches on average before losing one.

@vella85 - As I have said, athletes have learn to adapt at the current situation. As you can see in the video, specially in the last seconds, you can clearly see him somewhat wanted to smash a winner, LOL. I think he is very eager to get in the game now, because even in snow he can still pull that trick shot.

@tyKiwanuka - Medvedev had good break out year in 2019, but sadly though, in the first half of the year, or least prior to the suspension because of the Covid-19, he has somewhat playing flat at up that point.

That is true mate, players will adapt to the situation that they are given however I still think that match fitness might effect some players once tennis is back up and running again. We now know that Wimbledon will be cancelled and the French Open but there is still hope for the US Open which is played in September and maybe they could even push it back a month if things haven't got better by then. Like I have said, the main concern I have is the money side as the economy will most likely be in bad shape once we come out of this and maybe there won't be much funding to host sporting events. I hope it doesn't come to this but it could happen.

I do hope that we can really see at least one Grand Slam for this year. But I wouldn't be surprised if US Open will also be cancelled in September unless everything has cleared by that time. I do agree that the economy of sports will be in bad shape by that time specially if we didn't see any tournament for this year. Maybe we can see some cut from major prizes next year just to be able to compensate what we have lost due to the pandemic this 2020. And I think everyone will understand, we need to start somewhere else.

Yeah hopefully we do as the US are now expecting this week as the peak of the virus so hopefully then the cases start to decrease and then maybe we could see the US Open being played even if it is delayed by a month or two. I did see some reports that some sports might play in China as the virus has been on the decline however I can't see this happening as I think China and a lot of other people believe they have lied about their cases. Time will tell if we see any tennis this year.

I doubt there will be any sporting event happening before July or even August. It is spreading like a wildfire and lockdown has not resulted anything positive. Half of the world is under lockdown still you can hear daily New cases being reported. A vaccine to cure it is the only solution.

I said the same in the EPL thread that we won't see any sport for many more months as the virus continues to spread more and more each day however there is still a possibility that we can see the US Open played later this year but that of course relies on the spread of the virus to come to a stop. I'm now thinking that we will remain in lock down until there is a vaccine for this virus.

As we know, in the back end of the year we see many tournaments played in Asia, I just wonder if we see this happen this year as it looks like China is recovering from this but then again they could be lying.

Yes, China has a history of skewing data in the past, even the doctor who have first notice and subsequent alerted people have been silence (unfortunately, he succumb to the virus itself). So I doubt that the Tennis Federation will go to China for just to proceed with the remaining games in the calendar. We really have to sit it out and wait. Or maybe Switzerland, Covid-19 cases are low, so who knows. The only thing we can do is just watch some replays.  Smiley.

That is interesting as France has some of the highest cases in the world right now, I know it will most likely slow down by then but with Wimbledon being cancelled I am surprised to see that the ATP have said that the French Open will be played this year. Don't get me wrong, I hope it does go ahead but I do have doubts as Europe has the highest cases in the world and it doesn't look like slowing down right now.

Yes, this is very interesting indeed, I just mentioned that Switzerland could be a good candidate to continue, pushing Roland Garros in France which is one of the highest case of the Covid-19 sounds very scary specially for fans. I don't know why they decided to continue despite the risk of the pandemic. Still five months from know and maybe they are thinking way ahead here. That in five months time this whole health crisis will be over by I doubt it.

Yes you're right but french open could be held without public or with only a quarter or a fifth of the audience. I don't think it would be a big deal to have less public in the stands.

This is some positive improvement from French Authorities as they have some good time for settling all things and if they done this all with success then surely this will help some other countries as well because most of them are waiting for first drop from any one.

Well football was being played with no crowds before it was called off so it can be done but I just can't see it happening. I was thinking that in-door tennis courts could work with no crowds but again I'm just not sure if that will happen. Time will tell if we see the French Open go ahead but I have my doubts right now.

All we see is governments talking but I can't see it happening as the cases continue to grow in Europe and now in Sweden the cases have exploded and still there isn't control over this virus so it can still spread so I think its going to take at least another 6-12 months before we go back to semi normal. It could take years before we return to normal living. I know we all want to see sports being played again but I do think that maybe we just have to accept the fact that we might not see any tennis or sports again this year unless something drastic changes the current situation.

The French Tennis Federation announced that on March 17 that the situation in the US was not high or it was not even confirmed that there were people infected with Covid-19, so I thought this would still be possible to change and can be cancelled same as Wimbledon.

I doubt they will do that, because if done the name must be changed to Swiss Open  Wink

One of the match organizers' income is from ticket sales, so I doubt they will do the match without spectators, also I think many sponsors will rethink to remain sponsors in a tournament because this pandemic is already at the stage of an economic recession which also affects the finances of companies that usually sponsors in tennis tournaments.

Don't be a smart-ass.  Smiley

What I'm trying to drive up is that if they want to continue with the tournament in a safe place, regardless of the location, they can chose Switzerland. But it looks like is not feasible at all as the Covid-19 cases in growing in that country as well.

When the condition is the most favorable then we will see the celebration of the events.
Health must prevail, it is better to assume that there will be economic losses throughout the world than to continue exposing more lives. I think that nowadays countries have realized that Covid19 is devastating. Only a virus cure could give us peace of mind to continue a normal life.

I don't want to get over confident however its looking like the corona virus cases world wide are starting to slow down which is good to see however I still think it will take another month before we get a clear idea on how well its looking. Then we could see some sporting events start back up so the French Open is looking likely at the moment but again I don't want to get ahead because it could all change very quickly.

I hope so mate, however, there are still new cases popping out everyday here, although there are also people recovering, but more cases have been reported and we still have a lock down up to the end of this month. Just last night, our President is seriously considering Martial Law just to impose those lock downs because there are still a lot of undisciplined people who doesn't follow the protocols so that everyone should be safe and the infections can be controlled. Of course, I'm still hoping that we can see sporting events this year not just tennis, but it seems the chance are slim at this point.

Yeah just when it is looking good, things can change very quickly. Here in Australia we have been able to control the out break however winter is coming so we could see more cases pop up. I think we could see some tennis played but of course with no crowds, the US is now hopefully over the peak and that we could see the US open later this year. Stay safe my friend and lets hope that it doesn't come to martial law for your country.
