From what you have said am I right in thinking that it is not correct that the "chip needs to run at 75C for optimal efficiency" but more that 75c is the Max temperature?

Rich

For safty, we test it under ~ 85C, okey for some days. But ~90C is not good.

For performance, we find ~65-70C maybe better for both performance and efficiency.

Thank you for the explanation, this is now starting to make more sense.

Sorry to be a pain but can I seek further clarification. Understand about not wanting 85-90C but are you saying that the chips are better at 65-70C than they would be at say 45-50C ?

That is what he put.  If it's long term... not sure.  He has put they are working on optimizing on certain things I would guess this is in it as looking for best performance and efficiency.

I don't think you going to get all the answers you want today, but it's good to see we have a dev reading up.   Likely the key to alot including best operation speed and running temperature are in the "smart speed".   Which is still pretty new and were still learning about, and it sounds like it's still being optimized.

Yes I read what it say's but still uncertain if that is what was meant, but will leave it for now...

My concern  Smiley is that if the chips require a working temperature as opposed to cooler is better with no bottom limit, then it may make undervolting and downclocking difficult if this temperature range cannot be reached at lower voltages & clock rates?

Anyway good to have ng active on the thread and to hear that they are working on further optimisation of the code. I look forward to further updates.

hashrate from f2pool

12.3 volt  75 c

removed was a temp hosting site.

Nice to see stats like this always Smiley.  At current everything it seems they do very good overclock via the input voltage.

They do work good already via input voltage to do a OC.  Which is nice to see that it can do a decent jump.

*Edit can you upload to a site that is not temp hosting?  Just instead of a good stat page we see a red ugly box now.

Hello Notlist3d,

Thanks for the awesome review.  I ordered a Avalon 6 from ZoomHash based on your review and Youtube video.  Can you tell me what was the Ambient room temperature for your video sound test of the unit?  I see that you have it in your bedroom, so I'm assuming that the noise level is not too loud?  I'm planning on hosting in my house so low noise is important.  Any tips or updates would be appreciated.

Hopefully you will get the cable that is necessary to connect the miner, I received the miner from Zoomhash w/o the cable so it is offline. I am waiting on the complimentary cable sent by Oregonminers, it is scheduled to be delivered today. I really appreciate that Tom @ Oregonminers mailed that cable after he saw my post here. Still waiting to hear back on my email and voicemail from Zoomhash from last Friday.

My order number is 9901, I looked everywhere but couldn't find the cable. Also since it didn't have blockC stickers on it, is it eligible for US warranty?

Thanks.

I will report back on my order but it's confirmed that I should be getting the cable along with the unit.  Also I was told that I would have the standard minimum warranty of up to 90 days.  Can't wait to hear back on your noise test of the Avalon minus the Server PSU, Hawk.

It really is not bad as far as sound to heat ratio is what I call it.  My room is pretty cold ambiant it's turning winter.  But you can hear it running in the video.  It can rev up but with my cold ambiant it tends not to do that to often... and my surround sound/proector exhust kinda dull it out.   But the ambiant you can see in front of miner and behind exhaust on front page.

I need to do it again and document it as my amabiant is even colder (I have a window open my dog enjoy's it).  The best DB reading is from phil in thread with his reader.  I used a smartphone app which was not bad, but phil had a true DB reader.

Thanks Notlist3d.  I'm hearing both side, 1 side saying it's still obnoxiously loud and only slightly less than the S7 and then I see others saying I won't be divorced over this and it's fine in the living room or bedroom.   I live in TX, so we'll only be enjoying a short cool winter but the house is consistently in the 72/73 degree F so I won't get any benefit of say 68-70 ambient rooms.   I ordered my unit after seeing your awesome review video.

Glad to hear I thin you will enjoy it.  I really like mine I had 0 plans of keeping it in my room, but ended up doing it after starting testing.  The free heat has me keeping it in my room more then planned.  I don't think you will get divorced over it Smiley as long as you have some sound or something else going.  Phils DB readings are very good earlier in thread he had some high quality db reader.

Best of luck with your miner!

I wish I had something to report back. After getting the cable from Oregonminers, I connected the miner. But the miner won't hash for some reason, Green Led on the miner kept blinking, I added pools, restarted the miner, checked all the cables - nothing seemed to work. I will try again later tonight. Using Bitmain 1600W PSU.

Which image are you using on your controller?  Is it the one from first page here that BlockC made?

I have it hooked up to one working perfect right now.

Hi Hawkfish,

sorry for the delay. But yes, it is eligible for the 90 day warranty. We can give you a discount of missed mining days as  compensation for the missing cables. I am going to work with our shipping guys tomorrow to see what went wrong.

Also, the bitmain power supply only takes 208v not 120v household voltage.

the antminer 1600 psu is a bad choice .

it uses 18 gauge wires not 16 gauge

it is loud so you are tossing away the av 6's lower sound level advantage.

lastly you need a 208 or higher power source for the psu.

and since the av 6 uses 1100 or less watts which allow for it to be run on 120 volts.

you will need a special power source in most usa homes.

@ sound level   question this is not really quiet like the ava 4.1  it does 55db to 58 db unless you downclock it a lot
