I just read this interesting post where it was said that how Piastri won the race with a "mini DRS" designed by their engineers. The reason why we are not seeing more of these is because teams have limited amount of time to try these things, and usually not every idea gets a test, and this results with teams testing only few of the ideas per season and sometimes good ideas thrown to trash because they can't try it out. This time, one of them got away and got itself a test here and it worked as well as hoped for, Norris had a great race too, while he started far back, he managed to finish above Max which was what he needed, not enough points difference like he would have desired but at least closed the gap a bit more and that's what matters right now.

Evertything depends if what they are doing it is legal accordin FIA, or if it is illegal.
And how FIA will respond to it.

FIA usually allows the new thing and ban the for the following year it will be probably the same.

The last time I remember that FIA quickly banned something was in 2019 when they banned the discovery of Ferrari with the "secret deal" they did.

Just as I said in my previous post, Ferrari tried to copy McLaren's debatable rear wing quickly.  Grin  McLaren is hiding their rear wing in garage for now as far as I know.



This is the look of the current constructor standings now. McLaren has already captured the first position by 20 points.  Smiley  It sounds really good to me as I think they deserve it all the way.

I think Ferrari still has a chance for the championship also. At least they can get past Red Bull considering the gap. This Singapore Grand Prix will help with that most probably. I don't think it will be a good weekend for Red Bull.

As it is a street track I expect Perez to step forward again. Verstappen could struggle once again too.

Like you said, usually they ban it later on. I believe that McLaren wouldn't do something that would be illegal directly, that would make no sense they are doing fine why would they risk losing too many points and even tunnel time when they could just do fine this year, that seems like the most important part of the racing, just keeping up with the rules.

However, I believe that this is something that is not illegal, and yet could be made illegal in the future, depends on how easy or hard it is as well, there are some things that one team does and other teams find easy to do and they all do it and then it's made legal and everyone does it, there are things where it's hard to do and that is when other teams decide that it should be banned and then FIA bans it as well. This looks interesting. Maybe FIA might really find McLaren guilty for using a possibly illegal wing design. I hope it isn't illegal though. Otherwise they might lose some pace.  Sad

Seeing these things through the years following F1, it's mostly not 'illegal'.  These cheeky designs made by different teams are mostly loop holes.  They're not really legal but they're not illegal either.  And what's gonna happen is after the FIA says it's not illegal this season but could make it illegal next season, the other teams then start copying the design...  Same with the one Vettel had at Red Bull with the blown diffuser.

Anyway what's this talk about Verstappen getting summoned by the FIA for using bad language?  Is he getting unhappy with the team?  He'll prolly leave Red Bull before 2028.

Seeing these things through the years following F1, it's mostly not 'illegal'.  These cheeky designs made by different teams are mostly loop holes.  They're not really legal but they're not illegal either.  And what's gonna happen is after the FIA says it's not illegal this season but could make it illegal next season, the other teams then start copying the design...  Same with the one Vettel had at Red Bull with the blown diffuser.

Anyway what's this talk about Verstappen getting summoned by the FIA for using bad language?  Is he getting unhappy with the team?  He'll prolly leave Red Bull before 2028.

It ended up with FIA's finding this rear wing design creating a mini DRS illegal. I'm not surprised though as this asymmetrical brake thing was also banned a short time later.  Smiley

I think this change will cause McLaren to lose a little pace. But I don't expect a big pace loss. However considering Ferrari's speed lately, they would really be more competitive against McLaren as of now.

When it comes to the Verstappen situation, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated his displeasure but Verstappen insisted. He is really frustrated with the power loss at Red Bull lately. He can't control his temper.
