As some of you may have read, the "ground effect" is bringing back an old problem that was last seen in the 80s, the so-called "porpoising". This shouldn't really be a big problem for them to handle. All they need is a bit more testing, and they could just reduce it based on the angles of the front wing and so forth, they could fail miserably for a while until they just get closer and closer and eventually will be able to find the optimum point.

I am not saying that it is "easy" but more like it is not difficult and takes time but could be done one way or another. That jumping back is not something you have to have, it is not something you are stuck with, adjust the car accordingly and lower the risk of jumping back up. It will be something no team would have by second race I imagine.

I do believe that some cars will face an issue due to this, but we’re in 2022 now so I believe an 80s problem can’t last for long, and as @RealMalatesta rightly said it’ll be sorted once they get a closer look. Furthermore dropping points can be costly for the teams over this issue, so let’s hope that they find a fix for this soon otherwise their title ambitions will take a hit.

Of the five rookies this year, who do you think will be the rookie of the year by making their best debut?
I prefer Mrco Bez72 as the best rookie of the year even though the race hasn't started yet, but because I saw him on a Ducati Gp21 bike and in the Pre-season test he has also shown a bit of a very positive performance.
So if in this year he can tame the Ducati bike very well, then he will be the rookie of the year. How about you guys?

I heard Ferrari has less of the so called ‘porpoising’ when their cars have their DRS open.  But there are some talks going around that the guys at McLaren figured out a way to eliminate it altogeher.  It could even prolly give them a good shot to win a championship.  I guess we’ll have to see at the test in Bahrain.  It won’t be that long now...

And MotoGP guys, share some of your picks and betting tips.  Been reading your posts and it looks like a lot of you are really deep into it.    When is the season starting?

I noticed the porpoising in the videos of the tests in Barcelona and i was surprised that those cars were going up and down so extremely. I also read though that Mercedes already had found a solution to that problem before the last day of the tests in Barcelona. They simply installed additional small struts in the rear section and the middle section of the car. This was just a temporary solution though but i am pretty sure that the "porpoising" is a pretty simple problem to solve for most teams. I would guess that we won't see much porpoising anymore in 8 days when the second test in Bahrain will start, but we will see.

I don't know. The obvious way to get rid of it is raise the cars a bit higher, but anything you do in that regard reduces the ground-effect, and so slows the car.
There's an interesting article here explaining why it might cause a dilemma between qualifying and race-day... the porpoising isn't much of an issue with DRS open as it is in qualifying runs, but you're not allowed to change car set-up between qualifying and race. So do cars go for fastest possible qualifying with the car low to the ground, knowing it will mean porpoising during the race, or do they raise the body height and sacrifice qualifying performance in order for a smoother race?

Mazepin was never really a good racer as we all know, dude just didn't really do anything that mattered and got nicknamed Mazespin for a reason. So for him, leaving wasn't really a big deal, and with his daddy money, he doesn't worth anything at all and that is why he will be kicked off easily.

Now the question is, who will replace him? Haas famously spent a lot of money on this year's car, and that should mean they must be at least not "clear last" team anymore, doesn't mean they won't be bad, it just means they won't be just going around without any passion anymore. So far for the past 2-3 years, they just stuck to the back of the grid and didn't even try, this year I was expecting them to try harder. The new driver needs to be a lot better than expected for something like this.

It's very interesting to see them all still on the MotoGP grid this season even though there are only three people who have won the primary class, namely Marquez, Joan Mir and Quartararo.
But it will be very interesting if this season there can be a new world champion in the MotoGP grid because considering there are many strong riders also this year who will compete on all the tracks that have been registered in the Dorna calendar.

The MotoGP racers have arrived in Qatar today and tomorrow will start FP1. I personally can't wait to see them on the Qatar track in all the action which is probably going to be amazing too.
And I'm sure everyone will be working hard tomorrow to get their position on the grid well before the Race starts this Sunday.

Maybe. I know there is a lot of excitement about the Ferrari in particular. But I wouldn't write Mercedes off just yet... particularly as they came #1 and #2 in the first pre-season testing. I know pre-season testing is notoriously difficult to read, but still, I think people would have been surprised if Mercedes had finished it anywhere other than at or near the top of the pack.

So McLaren are the only team that use a different suspension, they use pullrods on the front axle and pushrods on the rear axle, I don't know if any other team has that, the top teams don't.



Ferrari we will see how they can deal with the porpoising, but the prerequisites are the same for all teams and I think after 5 races at the latest all teams will no longer have this problem.

Yeah, I don't know what to think about that. Presumably it means he thinks that this year's Red Bull car can challenge for the title, and is either the best or one of the best in the field. Otherwise I don't think he'd sign, I don't think money is his primary motivator, he just wants to win. But it's still kind of a gamble to make a long-term commitment right at the dawn of a new era, and before we've even had a chance to confirm for definite which cars are good.

I am also the same as you from the five rookies I chose Bezzecchi because it seems that by riding a Ducati Desmosedici Bezzecchi will be able to compete optimally in the race for the Rookie of the Year title this season, last season Jorge Martin managed to become the Rookie of the Year because he rode a Ducati motorcycle.
Hopefully Bazzecchi can adapt as quickly as possible to the Ducati bike in order to do what Jorge Martin achieved in the previous season.

Russia is once again kicked off the races list, just like they are kicked out of everything. Am I hearing Istanbul music again? They haven't been around for years, and then suddenly they got involved due to pandemic, and now they are getting another possibility due to a whole new war breaking out.

Turkey track must be owned by someone who is the luckiest person in the world, he keeps getting chances after chances. If he made some good money from the last 2, and if he gets accepted this time around as well, then for the fourth one he should be able to pay up directly as well. All based on super lucky situations for him while it is terrible for the whole world.

I would love to see Istanbul back in all honesty as that is a wonderful track,a lot of dramatic action has happened there before including a Redbull clash between drivers of this same team.Also we nearly saw Lance Stroll first win there a couple of years ago.Lot and I mean lot of beautiful things for us the fans have happened in this track.I don't know if he is lucky or not but I want that track to be back and for us all to enjoy even better action now in F1 2022 with all the new rules taking place.

Bezzecchi and Fabio di giannantonio have the same chance of being Rookie of the Year because they use the same bike specs, for another rookie I think there is very little chance because the Ducati bike is currently in good form both the manufacturer and the satellite team.
