I have been reading around the other sections for like an hour now, and would be interested in posting in those areas, and sharing ideas with the community. I am also interested in gaining access to the Marketplace, to sell / buy. :3

AHHH LEMMEE OUTTA HEEREAHH!
No one likes to be ostracized from the community for being new. Please, let me outta this silly cage!
The sense of urgency is so that I can put in my two cents as a seasoned trader and investor in the rollback debate that is going on right now. From what I can tell most of the "non-newbies" on the forums are newbies to the financial exchanges, due to the of overall sway of the attitudes being expressed by everyone contributing to the matter. Surely the insular nature of this forum is not helping attract people from the world of finance whose contribution could make the direction of this financial exchange more palatable to a larger audience, thus increasing liquidity and reducing volatility.

Hiya, I would like to respond to this post: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=965.msg200374#msg200374Stopping bitcoind is done by sending a signal to the daemon. I don't know how good bitcoind tries to close its databases, but I've had once a database corruption when killing the daemon. On the bitcoin chat people advised me to to send the rpc stop command to stop it (and call start-stop-daemon later again to clean it up), checking the debug log can give some information if it is closing right (flushing the database files). Best would be that bitcoind closes itself properly after receiving a kill signal.
How can I implement this to the skript? By saying: Change: # # Function that stops the daemon/service # do_stop() { # Return # 0 if daemon has been stopped # 1 if daemon was already stopped # 2 if daemon could not be stopped # other if a failure occurred start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --retry=TERM/30/KILL/5 --pidfile $PIDFILE --name $NAME
to this: # # Function that stops the daemon/service # do_stop() { # Return # 0 if daemon has been stopped # 1 if daemon was already stopped # 2 if daemon could not be stopped # other if a failure occurred $DAEMON stop start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --retry=TERM/30/KILL/5 --pidfile $PIDFILE --name $NAME
to implement BioMike's suggestion. See the '$DAEMON stop' line. This will tell bitcoin (via rpc) to stop running. I also ended up changing this: NAME=/usr/local/bin/bitcoind DAEMON=$NAME
to: NAME=bitcoind DAEMON=/usr/local/sbin/bitcoind DAEMON_ARGS="-daemon"
To get things working better for me. My install of ubuntu wouldn't support long NAMEs. Also when I issued a 'start' command the process would keep running in the foreground, so I added the '-daemon' argument to stop that from happening. Would you mine giving me access to do this? Thanks much.

Dear Bitcoin Forum,
I formally request to released from the 'newbies' forum. Although I may be new to the forums, I have been obsessed with everything Bitcoin for the last few weeks.
I just setup a 1.4GH/s miner and am having a small issue which I would like to discuss with other more experienced forum goers.
Thanks for your time,
JG

I've been a member for quite a while as a lurker and while i find bitcoins fascinating and follow discussions I haven't had an opportunity to contribute meaningfully so i haven't added to the noise. With the recent decision by the EFF to discontinue taking bitcoins I would like to contribute to that thread and discussion but am unable to do so. Please change my status, thanks!

Sitting at about 1 hour of logged in time, would like to be allowed into the wider world of forums so that I can report/discuss an error I'm getting using the flexible mining proxy. More specifically, I'm running a windows machine with VC9 compiled apache 2.2 and PHP5.3. When I turn error reporting on it shows a a "cannot convert to string" error in the MVC class cdhowie provided with the build.
I've helped out a bit in the newbie forums already. Thanks for your time.

I'd like to make a post, likely in the Economics section, where I think it would get better traction. If I could get whitelisted, that would be great. Otherwise, I'll wait until I'm promoted to Jr. status.
I learned programming 27 years ago, and I enjoy mathematics, and science, hence my fascination with Bitcoins.

I assumed promotion was automatic, so spammed a few posts in the newb section I lurk a lot, and am rarely moved to comment, and anyway have great difficulty expressing myself, but it would be nice to have the option I am also reasonably familiar with how bitcoin works, so promise not to ask any dumb questions in the main forum.

Hello, I would like out of here. I am trying to help test out the Eclipse pool and it seems to be having a problem right now as my miners are reporting a warning of the queue being empty and miners are idle. It is going in and out and it has been working fine for the last couple of hours. I am running phoenix with the phatk kernal to speed up my overclocked 5830s. I am a IT manager by trade and I am past my newb phase. Thank You Also I have not gotten any money or coins stolen from me if that counts for anything

Isn't it legal now anyways? My current Mhash rate/s is sitting at 700.. would like to try for at least 1000 with a 3rd card. (the one thats posted for sale on this forum would do just that).. Doh!

Hello, I'd love to get whitelisted if possible. I've been a lurker on the forums for some time but never bothered registering. I've been active in irc for about a month or so (especially #bitcoin-otc) as shockdiode.
I understand you are probably inundated with these requests at the moment so I'm ok with just being patient and waiting my turn but thought I'd pop in a friendly request.
Cheers

Hi there guys ,
Were currently about to introduce a new trading xchange for virtual currencies, it would be helpful to go beyond the new section. And communicate with the rest of the community. Any further questions, please feel free to msg me. Thanks C

Hey there! I have known about bitcoins for a few weeks now, and I came here to sell some games that I have extra copies of, as someone who lent a few bitcoins to me is calling in my tab. Being whitelisted would be highly appreciated.

I am exploring the idea of making a smart card availible to protect the wallet private key material and would like to be able to start a thread or two in the regular forums where I can engage with the developers of the clients and users of them to measure interest.

I have been mining for almost 2 months now, with a pesky 4850.. just got a 5850, and due to problems with Deepbit, I want to reply in the thread in the Pools section, but I can't since.. Well, since I'm a newbie (or not, just haven't gotten around to creating an account). I know a lot about bitcoin, and I won't post any stupid or obvious questions in the forums, the search bar is there for a reason.
