please pull gear out into the open and give a close shot of all 14 plugs and wires and connections to the psu. also how loud is it? this would be a decent psu if it is quiet and can feed 2000 watts Just received the first batch of APW5 PSUs and R4s. I was a little uncertain about the actual number of 6-pin PCI-e connectors it came with due to some of the images showing only 7 connectors total. I'm pleased to share that there are indeed 14 x 6-pin PCI-e connectors, as originally advertised by Bitmain. The APW5 does appear to be capable of supporting 2 R4s with a single PSU (using 220v power).

Got mine running. I am impressed with the noise, VERY acceptable. It's the sound of a small level of a small desk fan. Now I just need to see if the heat is acceptable.
After 12m, miner is reporting avg hash rate of 8565 Gh. Nicehash is reporting an accepted rate of 10.2Th (!) reporting a payout of $6.3/day.
After 35m, miner reporting 8691 Gh, Nicehash reporting 9.5 but bouncing around.

Well what is the guess for BTC difficulty for the next year it takes to ROI...is it gonna be 'flat' due the the halving or nuts as usual..if it is flat you could do ok with a 1 year ROI on this beast comments anyone on above? Is that the plan for those getting an R4 (that and a hopeful price pump of BTC)....

Is that the plan for those getting an R4 (that and a hopeful price pump of BTC).... id expect to see at least a 50% increase in hashrate over the span of the year, probably closer to 70-80% (assuming fairly stable price and no major changes in hardware prices). thats about 2-2.5% increase per difficulty period considering the miner makes ~$5/day, minus ~$2/day if you pay ~$0.08usd/kwh, you're looking at an ROI of more than 18 months probably. if power is "free", more like 10-12 months.

What does the label on the side say for efficiency? 91% 94% and platinum or what? make model of psu maker ...all that kinda stuff curious could not seem to find such on the info stuff online Got mine running. I am impressed with the noise, VERY acceptable. It's the sound of a small level of a small desk fan. Now I just need to see if the heat is acceptable.

Well was kinda wondering...IF and I mean IF the difficulty was to have been more FLAT (like LTC difficulty the last 2 years or so) THEN a case could be made for these units with a 12 month ROI to climb out of the hole (with maybe a BTC price pump) at 10-12 months and then just chug like my knc titan scrypt miners did for that extra year or so Was naive....to think so...but thought maybe with BTC halving a mining glut and investment into new BTC equip would cause some kinda lag (if you can call 50% growth of BTC difficulty a lag) Anyway such a game still may work out for those folk with 3-4c kwh usd electric ...me at 14c kwh Summer rates (5 months) and 10c kwh Winter rates.....that boat don't float for a BTC miner at the 1300 buck price.....so I guess will stick to scrypt mining and convert LTC to BTC (only 10% in LTC) and continue the sideways method to BTC via home mining. Only thing that works. (Also it heated 85% of my house last year at 3000 watts ...figure now I have 6000 watts I'm golden again this year) angles ..always crypto with the angles

Seems to me that you either need super cheap electricity or these are still pretty much no good for home miners. It does make it slightly less painful though if one of their psus can run two r4s, would be interesting to see the setups people put together

90 day warranty for 1 year roi
with asic chips that have more problems then any older larger asic chips.
Sounds like a no go.
I could use two of these but based on my s-9's that have had dead asic chip issues I fear purchase of them with the short warranty.
I do ROI calculations fully in USD you need 12 cent power and a use for the heat it will make to stand a decent chance of cash profit.
I would take a shot with a longer warranty but for now the are a pass.

yeah i could justify it for a winter 'space heater' and maybe knock the roi down to 11 or 10 months on such delusions.....and or the 'toy' factor (I've done dumber stuff) but the 90 day warranty just kills it for me ....1 year warranty and the original guess of 1k in price...maybe.....but an easy choice not to get one with my current 14c kwh price for the next 2 months till 11c kwh winter rates kick in .let me tell ya..talk about slamming the door shut in my face. I have saved quite a bit of $$$ on dual server psu's getting platinum 95% efficiency again with slide in backplate on such psu's (dual 1280 type and slide in back plate) and modding old KNC Mercury/Saturn/Jupiter cases to lug them about however.....so instead of getting Corsair 1200i's for the 10 Titans (including test controllers) of 6k .it will be only 3k so 2x the watts 2560 watts for most of my stuff 3200 for others and 95% efficiency platinum sure beats double the price for 2 corsair 1200i's let me tell you and have the punch to the psu's just saying for those looking borderline on ROI with cheap enough electric...but hell ...that is just a side thought it 90 day warranty issue you might be better off on the above just replacing server psu's above with the units you have and/or gpu rigs if you are into mining with your extra regular units or something but anyway only hint I have....but the warranty just 'kills' the dream of an R4 dead to me even if I did have cheaper electric....(sorry knc evil burnt on 1 year warranty issues) new asic's of any flavor scrypt or sha-256 never do well the first 90 days imho in any form...just goes with the territory it seems

No offence, but you keep repeating yourself. I can see you sitting in front of your PC, Bitmain Cart with 2 x R4 and APW5 open, mouse pointer floating over 'Checkout'. Since launch Just do it, you will sleep better. Sooner or later you won't be able to resist the temptation anyways. I'm pretty certain buyers will get a coupon for this batch.

I was all set to order 2 or 3 at $1000, to heat my store for the next 6 months. I would have easily ROI on the investment because I would be using the heat. Long cool fall and winter months in Seattle @ .09 cent power. But I guess now, I'll just have wait on Avalon.

Seems like there's more every generation of miners that comes out Imagine the next miners that are released... :/ wiring will definitely be a head ache issue in the future.

I don't know if this was discussed before but anyone feels like this miner is from the leftovers of their S9 chips, to make some extra profit while replacing their miners with new generation just like they did with S5+?
Oh thats hell of a long sentence.

Probably not. The S9s are still selling like hotcakes and it's unlikely they would have the next gen 3 months after launch. S5+ showed up ~8 months after S5.

This miner doesn't really seem to offer much over the S9, what you gain in silence you lose in hashrate and people who mine are going to want to be as profitable as possible especially after the reward halving. I just don't see the market for this thing

So after running 26 hour at stock frequency, I have averaged 8600Gh. The projected daily income at Nicehash is showing at $5.88.
This thing does not generate much heat at all. I have it in my office and whereas other heaters generated an intolerable amount of heat such that I eventually removed them from my office to another location, this one can stay. And as I said earlier, noise level is great, I can still hear the wife yell at me from the other room, which isn't always a good thing...

there are thousands of offices through the USA that are over ac'd in the summer and under heated in the winter. Many of them use an electric space heater and burn 900 watts to warm the room up. the s-9 would be stupid loud this would be perfect for that office.
