Drug free in the Philippines

Change is really happening now in Philippines. One of my friend told me that he has a cousin who is a drug user foa a year. But when President Duterte became a president, his cousin is much responsible now. He do the household chores, planting some rootcrops and even going to church every sunday. His parent totally amaze in his behavior now and also thankful.

If that's true that is great, I'm glad for him and his family. However there are heavy drug users who can't stop so easily and the society shouldn't kill them or put them in jail but rather should treat them compassionate way. As far as I know recently Duterte has referred to himself as Christian so probably he should behave accordingly. I'm not saying that heavy drug users are good people, but they are humans after all.

Actually in the first place the state are fighting for control of drug trafficking and revenues. Therefore, I have little confidence in the fact that the government will fight against drugs and to do so to their own detriment.

To clarify, I think Duterte has some of the worst combinations of personality traits in a leader. He seems intolerant, ignorant, mean and arrogant. He seems like a terrible person to be running a country.

On the other hand, I can see why he has popularity in the country - The Philipines has a very serious drug problem, and to the average voter, Duterte's strategy of "Killing all the drug users and vendors in cold blood" seems like a good idea. After all, it's an efficient way of ridding the country of the drug problem, right?

Wrong.

Pretty much all modern research suggest that severe drug problems are a symptom of societal issues. There will undoubtably be reasons why so many people in the Philipines use and sell meth, for example, the main one being that there aren't many other ways of making good money. The leaders of countries need to start tackling the underlying social issues that cause the symptoms of drug addiction, rather than just trying to kill everyone involved. To a lesser extent, the same could be said of Western countries (UK/US etc) than imprison individuals for drug possession (Yeah, they're not killing them, but they are locking them up for victimless crimes).

His tactics have huge problems, one of the most obvious being that innocent people can be shot in cold blood, then framed as drug users (with no real evidence apart from a hand written sign on their corpse telling people they took drugs... yeah sounds legit  ). Another problem is that his violent massacre is taking out users as well as dealers.

While I wouldn't even condone the assassination of dealers, assassinating users/addicts just seems like an incredibly fucking medieval thing to be doing in this day and age. Morally, what have these people done wrong? They haven't hurt anyone, stolen anything, yet because they choose to partake in drug use they are sentenced to death? These people need fucking HELP, not to be shot in a motorcycle driveby by a hitman, accepting money indirectly from the government (yes this really is happening, saw a documentary interviewing hitmen/women that were doing exactly this...)

Duterte sounds like he's on the way to becoming another Pol Pot or Hitler, simply dictating his own narrative with a closed mind, and with little empathy or understanding towards the citizens he's killing.

What do you guys thinks about the new trend of hitmen/women being paid to gun down people in the street for money, because their target were claimed to be drug users/dealers? These hitmen/women are paid by government agencies (by proxy) or simply gang members who want competitive dealers out of the way with no hassle.

Can you understand that this vigilante hitman movement is a simple knock on effect of Duterte's attitude toward drugs, and is totally unregulated (many innocents are killed this way)? Would you like to live in a place where people are being paid to slaughter their fellow citizens in the street?

The combination of moral clarity and moral panic just happens to lead to the conclusion at which Filipinos wanted to arrive: that the best and most Final Solution to their problem of poverty is simply to fuck all the poor people to death.

Can the president of the Philippines can do it. Well I like what his doing in his campaign. It is very amazing program and very work program in the country. Many were discipline now because of him.

I think that was not the real purpose why they killed those drug addicts there are many reasons behind this, maybe the authorities actually killed them because these drug suspects tried to fight back against the authorities, and there could be a possibility that they killed these drug suspects because some of the members of authorities are involved to the illegal drug trade and they don't want these drug suspects to be chased by the PNP and be forced to give an information that can specify those drug lords and their protectors .

I somewhat agree with your post. Human life is very precious, and ideally, the state must refrain from killing humans. That said, if the individual poses a threat to the society, then the state has every right to exterminate him. Murderers, rapists, pedophiles, home invaders.etc must be eliminated from the society.

That said, if the individual poses a threat to the society, then the state has every right to exterminate him. Murderers, rapists, pedophiles, home invaders.etc must be eliminated from the society.

how about the drug dealers who spreads a scourge to the society ? actually people don't want this type of action where the government authorities kills people who suspected as a drug addict for example no one wants this to happen without any trials for sure and speaking of human rights when there are indigent people who are abused and didn't made any offense or crime they are missing in action and when there so many drug addicts, dealers that are being killed they are making an action and a complaints against the administration . anyway you are right that these criminals that you have mentioned needs to be eliminated from the society .

Many drug users where killed during police entrapment/operations. Police asset will do the drug trade of a suspected drug pusher/user. If the deal was made the police outside will go inside that building to arrest the suspect. But when the suspects notice that the one they have been dealing with was an asset they try to fight because they don't want to be caught. I remember President Duterte once said "If you saw a drug user/pusher arrest them. But if they fight back and threaten your lives(referring to all police) then fight back and shoot/kill them." (not exact word but more likely).

The other killings(The one with a message "I'm a drug pusher" etc....) was the doings of drug lords/gov't officials who was into business with this. They don't want to reveal their identity because they are know to the society thats why they hired someone to kill their lower members for them to stay hidden in drug issue.
All I have to say is that don't really rely on media(specially here in Philippines...one is ABS-CBN) because they really twist the real story.

How you can be sure that all those who are killed are drug dealers? Corrupt cops can kidnap anyone they don't like, and then they can kill him and dump his body somewhere. Later, they can claim that the individual was a drug dealer and he was killed in an encounter with the police.

Please try to research his achievements this past months not just relying on your biased media for information if you claim that he is terrible running the country then there would be already riots and chaos occuring.

He is in the procedure to make the country whole by trying to have an agreement with the pro-communist and Muslims to end these pointless bloody fights and also plans of development for the country if he was a bad leader why would China, Japan, and Korea help in funding & aiding in the development of the Philppines after Duterte talked to them.
