Avalon DIY only costs $154 for the chips plus another $50 for the parts to make it in total $200 for 6.2gh/s versus 6.0gh/s for $2,795? a $2,595 different?

Avalon listen to the members here that is why there are so successful. Maybe their mentality is different. They are OUT of the game. We wasted our quality time on them. Keep changing their specs from the previous model is not good. Clearly means they cannot come out with a ASIC Product on time.

It's not an ASIC. It's a FPGA so it's bound to be more expensive. While you get roughly the same Gh/s, the two systems are vastly different and thus makes up the difference for the price. If you look at the FPGA, you will see that they are a lot more expensive. Please, calm down and read their post before posting like this.

Furthermore, we do not have the full details yet, but it looks like you get $2000 off the ASIC if you buy the FPGA, making it $745 for the FPGA.

Because nitwit, the 2k is an advance on producing the ASIC devices. You agree to lend them 2k, and they'll let you have a 6gh fpga to mine in the interim at $795 total cost. The combined investment in the fpga allows them to develop the future product plus 6gh gives you something whilst BFL ship and increase difficulty.

The real danger is the open source plans Avalon are releasing with their 10,000's of chips they are flooding the market with to DIYers. The hobbyists will create a more affordable competing product.

But should KNC encourage expansion, over clocking water cooled chips and modding in general as well as more efficient power consumption then there is at least some future proofing.

ROI is not guaranteed though, especially not with BFL! And almost certainly not those that paid BFL with bitcoins pre-order in '12!!

6Ghash is not enough hashing power to last 6 months but it is enough to buy these devices as needed to keep up if they are modular and cheap. If we can buy one of these devices each month for 6 months that would probably keep up with difficulty but I'm not a math genius so correct my numbers.

That said where do you get the $795 price and how is it fair? Yeah I agree the Jupiter would completely change the game. If it's -$2000 for people who buy the Mars then that is only $5000 which is somewhat reasonable for the amount of hashing power it offers. The question is how reliable it is, how efficient is it, and I agree why does it need water cooling and how will that work?

You're assuming the FPGA is profitable and doesn't lose us money. If it's not profitable then how much of a deal is it? It has to either make us money or break even.

6Ghash is nothing and for that price it's a huge gamble. They could take the money from the FPGA and never release the Jupiter.

country man helping their own country man is understandable, but is kind of sad when they promise 50gh/s for $2,995 which get everyone excited but turn around and offer 6gh/s for $2,795?  You break your own promise man.
