Genuine question -
If the value of one bitcoin became astronomically high one day & there was a state or island somewhere that was strictly bitcoin only as a monetary transfer of value would you emigrate to there?
It’s something I’ve long thought about & I most certainly would to be honest. It’d be great to live amongst like minded people.
MMMMmmm just that thought, and I think I surely would....

Wasn't Elwar advertising the seastead thing quite aggressively? I thought he had all figured out with the government officials.. and it looked like Thailand was giving him a thumbs up.
Wow this is some bad shit and I feel bad for both of them. I just did some background reading on the latest Thai elections that happened in March 2019. Results come out in May after new king appointed. TLDR: there are 18+ political parties jockeying for position and the scene is best described as chaotic. There is *no one* in the government capable of giving a thumbs up, even if they were so inclined to do so. http://theconversation.com/thailand-the-baffling-mathematics-that-helps-to-keep-the-junta-in-power-115573I remain of the view that the only thing to do is to get out. That means crossing a land border or getting out by sea or via an embassy. The idea of trying to cross the land border into Myanmar, Laos or Cambodia gives me the willies. And he is a long way from those borders. But I imagine the Malaysian land border is pretty damn tight (never been there). So getting out by sea or through the US embassy sounds like the only way. But he is in Phuket(?) and the embassies are in Bangkok which is 550 miles away. I would be in electronic contact with the US embassy and see whether they would send a car with diplomatic plates to pick me up. But a US embassy car driving to Phuket would stand out like dogs balls. So he might need to make the land journey to Bangkok. And if he has pissed off the USA, that’s bad. Also there is a warrant for his arrest in Thailand do not sure the US government wants to help him. Him and Nadia need to get back stateside where the whole issue can then get lost in bureaucracy. Getting out by sea still feels like the most realistic option. Possible lessons from this: don’t get into trouble. And if you do get into trouble, run early and run fast before the government has time to get organized.

I hope we can eventually get rid of this whole countries and borders nonsense. The internet is a good start and hopefully future space-based internet providers will eventually put an end to surface based internet filtering. And of course a global and distributed currency.

And if you do get into trouble, run early and run fast before the government has time to get organized. I highly doubt he has a nation-wide man-search on him. Thailand does have police checkpoints but they are fairly easy to pass, I've never seen them to check wanted "farangs", they're just looking for local drug people mostly. Taking this into consideration it shouldn't be too much of an hassle to get to BKK, even with a VIP bus (12h drive, never seen them checked in a police checkpoint). But yeah, taking the sea route would be the easiest option. Hopefully he is all right.

Didn't know about the elections, I suppose it's just bad timing then. I guess some newly elected people want a piece of the pie too or just disagree with the whole project but didn't have a say in it until now. As for the King, he's just a symbol. He's been here for two years since the death of his very popular father. He hadn't been crowned yet because of a mourning period he had to respect. He's completely different from his father, he's a bit hummm exuberant to say the least and really not respected by his people. It's not easy realizing your dream in this world, good luck to Elwar and his companions.

Just drive/travel from country to country without any hassle. Shengen area is a blessing.

[~snip]I mean Elwar and his wife should go to a major Western country and not go to a smaller Asian country. They should honestly just to back the US.
Have you heard from Elwar ? Did they get to the embassy? We'll prolly know soon enough. In other note, why the heck the government intervened in the first place? Is seasteading seen as a danger or smth? I think the government hasn't decided how it feels about seasteading yet. It's a little bit like the government's hesitation about BTC.

When there is no border control on the borders, there will border control on the doors of shopping malls, schools, train stations, restaurants, hospitals, roads, highways and so on. And still people will get robbed, raped and killed for the sake of border-less travelling and free movement. So at the end the 20 minutes border control on the borders is pretty convenient procedure to go through.

I wouldn't hesitate to emigrate there!! Unfortunately, in the country I live in now, there is no freedom of speech. Yesterday there was an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate who was almost 30% ahead of the incumbent in the first round of voting.

Obviously the prince's luggage was lost on the flight over so he borrowed some clothing from his lady friend and her dog.

Are they wanted beforehand or do they commit crimes where they see fit? The people who commit crimes and bring "diversity" are allowed to the (at least in Europe) countries legally. Yeah, I mean the "culturally enrichening" folk. There are criminals always and everywhere, some are just born with a brain like that. Some don't have empathy and there are always people who want to get by easier. Closing/opening borders doesn't change much in that. The world is getting more and more digital every day, soon a person wanted by Iraq will be wanted by Latvia as well, with exchanging information. Oh wait, we do have interpol already?

Building a country is a too complex thing.
If everyone is below 90IQ, that's a problem. If everyone is above 110IQ that's another problem.
You don't want everyone to be too dumb and you definitely don't want everybody to be too smart neither.
If everybody in a country is a smartass, building crypto mining farms, writing codes, healing people, teaching mathematics...
...who's going to pick up the trash?
Now you see why USA&EU allows refugees.
