Question for the **** people here:

What is the incentive for anyone to buy securities of public-traded companies if they're not expecting to ever receive any dividend or share of profits made by the companies?

This is a 5-grade question by the way.  Wink

I'll let Investopedia answer your question. Since you won't listen to us **** people...

http://www.investopedia.com/articles/02/041702.asp

There are a number of ways in which a company can return wealth to its shareholders. Although stock price appreciation and dividends are the two most common ways of doing this, there are other useful, and often overlooked, ways for companies to share their wealth with investors. In this article, we will look at one of those overlooked methods: share buybacks. We'll go through the mechanics of a share buyback and what it means for investors.

The Meaning of Buybacks
A stock buyback, also known as a "share repurchase", is a company's buying back its shares from the marketplace. You can think of a buyback as a company investing in itself, or using its cash to buy its own shares. The idea is simple: because a company can't act as its own shareholder, repurchased shares are absorbed by the company, and the number of outstanding shares on the market is reduced. When this happens, the relative ownership stake of each investor increases because there are fewer shares, or claims, on the earnings of the company.

Ok I understand that buyback will reduce the number of ICN thus increasing it's value.
This in turn will also increase the ownership stake of ICN holders but for holders the only way to get profit is to sell ICN.They can liquidate their holding in market buy selling ICN but that way they will lose ICN.
While in dividend system, they will get profit on their holding without losing them.

Nah it cost you...
You sent dividend to exchange owner
You send dividend via ETH and it cost more and more...
You sen dividend to dead accounts

so dividends cost you much more...

What is the difference between holding your profits in ETH then in ICN itself? It´s like you would reinvest all your dividends in ICN. There is no difference between you buying back ICN from your dividens and them decreasing the total supply other then you even get more now because no transaction fees have to be payed weekly Wink

You have to sell on or the other anyway to take profits, but with the buybacks the ICN value will increase much faster and catch up the missing dividends

I think the buyback scheme is better than the dividents one. Some people say that its not good that they changed their initial plan (giving dividents). But you have to think that things move too fast in the cryptocurrency space, what could be a good idea last year does not apply now. I think the devs took many factors into consideration, including transaction fees, listing on exchange and perhaps regulation issues as well.

Time will tell if the buyback scheme is better for ICONOMI. For the time being, the market thinks it is, and ICN is at an ATH.

Sorry i haven't read the topic for months, can you explain better what is this buyback scheme? I remember ICONOMI is sharing dividends from the platform...

Buying icn right now is considered cheap... to my calculations buying at any point in the future will be an investment with decent returns as the price will gradually catch up with the likes of eth zec dash etc....
Iconomi has a platform what do the others have? Iconomi cannot be mined so there will only ever be what is available now

Anybody who want dividendes....

Not loking on total ICN holding but % of share.

Here are two formulas to people that want to have dividends, you just sell the value you get of the formula and you still are holding the same %share of Iconomi.

a=b*(1-c/d)
a=b - (c *e)/100

a = Sell
b = Holding
c = NewSupply
d = OldSupply
e= %Share You Had Before

Examples:
You have 10,000 ICN now
Total Supply Now is 100,000,000 (https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/iconomi/)
With the burn let's say it went to 98,500,000
So, using the first formula:

a=b*(1-c/d)
a = 10000*(1-98500000/100000000)
a = 150 ICN's

So, Just sell 150 ICN's and there is your dividend without losing your old %share

OR

If you know how many is your %share you are holding now you can use the second formula.
Let's say you hold 0.01% (10,000 ICN now)
Using the second Formula:

a=b - (c *e)/100
a = 10000 - (98500000*0.01)/100
a = 150 ICN's

So, Just sell 150 ICN's and there is your dividend and still holding 0.01% of Iconomi

I think ICONOMI has changed their stance from planned dividend distribution to buyback because of similar upcoming platform like TaaS and melonport.
The two above mentioned projects also intend to work same way like ICONOMI and distribute the dividend among their token holders.
It was a good move by ICONOMI to once again proof they are innovative and witty people.

HOLY ###!@#!#!#@!!@

ITS $0.69 NOW

AND ITS NOT EVEN having any live platform YET.

And Its not even 1st of April yet where ICONOMI doing the buyback!

$1 is nothing now after they change from dividend paying to buyback programs.

Buyback program just speed up the process of recoup ROI compare to dividends paying

I know the buy back update is a crucial bit of news but in the grand scheme of things 1,000 ETH it is a drop in the ocean compared to what could be coming for iconomi.

Look at how the value has risen nicely. Think about when even larger buy backs happen. Think about when the platform launches. Think about the potential profit Iconomi can now pump into the value of ICN. Think about when ICN hits the big exchanges. The moon is an understatement for what could happen to the price of ICN throughout 2017.

Im holding like a b!tch.

Agreed! ICN will perform like dash most likely. The less Token available the higher the price.
