Two official channels exist still for GOX. Their Facebook page and Google+. The latter not used as much.

That will be where official statements will come from. Interesting never the less.

"We should have an official announcement ready soon-ish. We are currently at a turning point for the business."

I think the turning point is to say: "That's all folks, we are bankrupt!"

Anyone work out what manner of thing the script does yet?

From superficial analysis I would say it injects stuff from Akamai into the page. What it ultimately does, we cannot find out, because what Akamai injects depends on Akamai, and it can change however they want.

If I remember correctly, Mt. Gox has used Akamai for high-performance server farm hosting.

You honestly couldn't dream this shit up. I'd bet anything there is a movie in the works 6 months from now. The question is, who is big & smarmy looking enough to play Karpeles?  Maybe if Jonah Hill gained an extra 10kgs or so...

Yup,  MtGox was trying to buy back the "lost coins" on the cheap.

Actually, technicall that would be called "covering their short position".

Monitoring when their gig is officially up and are forced into admitting gox is bankrupt. Our bitcoins and cash are all safe though obviously.

Going to assume this email is BS until I get one from a known Gox email and then will assume its complete BS having come from Gox.

Edit: For newbies don't go entering you Gox details into anything you never know Gox might come back one day. Undecided

Translation: Scary people have spooked us, so we're running off with all your money. That will show you....

Weird situation, but the truth is if you don't have the private key to your bitcoins, you don't have bitcoins. Oddly enough this statement holds for gold (GLDX is not Gold, it's paper) and money (bank balances are not money). Fascinating to watch.
