I need to place another mouser order for some parts I'm short. They'll arrive in time for K16 and sample testing and I have bitcoins but not enough USD available due to FC4B going down.
If someone can help with arranging a sale or buying some bitcoin for ACH or PP, please PM me. I need about $100 USD for btc, but it would need to be someone I've had some contact with here and trust not to reverse it on PP.

I've updated my sig now. No point in turning down donations - though that's not my current problem as I have some reserves. Just need to convert them to that other nasty currency that all the parts places accept.  |

I don't want to put my email address here but anyone who gets an inkling to send PP can always PM me for that. ~~~~ Here's my K1 stencil cut this morning on the Silhouette. It's not perfect but I think it's usable for a prototype. This is just garden variety transparency material from the local stationers shop. There is better quality material out there. This is 2-up w/o ASIC and missing the NOR gate as well, since both will be added manually later.  |

Edit: Image Removed The K1 stencil will work fine - I've done similar things with a laser cutter many times when I didn't have time to wait for a stainless foil. Do yourself a huge favor though - run some 1000 grit sandpaper over both sides to clean up the burrs. They don't look like much, but they end up holding the stencil off the board just enough that the paste oozes under 'everything'. Experience speaking here Enigma |

What are your thoughts regarding powering the bricks? One big PSU or individual ones for each klego (pain to power up...)?
A K16 will use around 32W, so a K64 will need about 128W each (with 4 leads). They're designed to take a PCIe 6 pin connector much like a GPU. I would guess that you could run a K64 off each PCIe lead from the PSU with splitters to feed each of the 4 sections. I haven't gone to check the specs but they would handle something like that. I wouldn't have a problem running 4x K64 off my 600W supply. I used to run 3 GPUs at 500W without any issues. I'd say you're better off going that route than using crappy low wattage power adapters for each board, or section of board. Like with GPUs stick with solid reliable PSU units like Corsair, preferably high efficiency Gold (90%) rated. Can anyone say how many K16's could you run on a single rail of a ATX PSU? Can anyone say how many K16's could you run on a single rail of a ATX PSU? Is it correct you will need to manage max amps per rail as well? so you might have a very large wattage power supply but hit the amp ceiling first perhaps.
42. But no seriously it depends on the 12v rail of the PSU and nothing else. Do some basic maths and you should be able to work it out.... |

What's the heatsink mounting hole spacing? In fact, is there a drawing of the PCB anywhere? I tried to convert the SVG to DXF, but the mounting holes don't translate over. Trying to mess with it, but no success. Is the overall board about 111mm square?

Looks good. One thing I know now - the K1 pcb isn't thick enough alone to make good contact in a USB socket. It will need some kind of plastic or metal tab to be incorporated into the case/heat sink for the board. I'd seen some USB-on-PCB designs online and presumed that 1.6mm would be close enough, but it isn't. I slipped a piece of thin 0.4mm aluminium in and that makes it snug. That leads me to think that 2mm is the right total thickness. |
