yes you can

click start forging at top of web wallet page

I suggest you consult about that before you start forging like that from the web wallet because from what EK said in the past it might not be so safe to do in some instances. Make sure you are protecting yourself well.

Install a local Elastic node (ie. on a laptop) and use it to forge.

Where does one go to install a node? I'll play around with it on my laptop when I get home. Is there much setup on my end or just download and enable forge?

Have some questions.
1)Is there any forging pool for XEL?
2) How fast the Elastic  (in terms of FLOPS) might be when fully implemented?
3) Does  Elastic's FLOPS depend on the number of nods involved?

It's somewhat chaotic, and repetitive but collects a lot of information in one place.
I like this the most Smiley

Another advantage is that their competitors, are not actually taking them seriously. This flying under the radar, will be a key component to their success.

Yes, the article is somewhat chaotically written and you can see where some of the information has come from the old white paper and refers to XEL as ELC.  But the basic argument of the article is a positive one.  :-)

Curious, why everyone persists to compare XEL to Golem.
Why not comparing it to SONM?
SONM team has proven top-notch software professionals on board + a lot of money raised through ICO.
They are the real danger to XEL's future not Golem.

Everyone, expecting price rocketing now, would also try to take into account that
the current XEL price is 20-30 times higher ICOs price...

It is known as an optimistic way of thinking.
But, yes, it may happen, everything is possible.  Smiley

SONM clearly know little or nothing about Elastic, since in their review of us, they got lots of things wrong.

Also, reading their material does not give one confidence that they have a clear idea of where they're going.

I'd be interested to hear why you think their team is top-notch and what their proven track record is.

The multiplier of the current price compared to the price paid in the donation phase is irrelevant.
What IS relevant is the current market cap compared to other similar projects, when taking into account factors like the complexity/flexibility of the system and the state of development (of which Elastic is blazing the way ahead). Also take into account that the current weak/lacking PR work will improve vastly to create more awareness and visibility of the project.
When considering these factors you will probably reach the same conclusion - the current price is dirt cheap (in current market sentiments - which can change later on). That leads us to the fairly logical conclusion that there is much room for growth - a positive thing that usually also materializes with price increase over time.
If some weak hands want out and they sell that is not bad, it is understandable and normal in any project that some liquidate their holdings. Those who stay long may enjoy larger gains over time (IMHO).

Trace their lead devs' bios.
Add here the funds they have now.
They might be a very strong player in this niche.
Soon, we'll know.
6 monts is a deadline.
Who hits the market with a real working product first is also a very important thing.

Yes, I am not denying the fact the current price may grow.
What about current state of development. There is still nothing working on XEL platform, right?
Those video with bitcoin mining is the only sample?
Btw, I wonder why don't they make Ethereum mining sample? At least it would be really real world usage, putting XELs price used as reward to the same level of Ethereum/per hash power atm.
That alone would be a lot...
