Of course. I expect Your next move to be fixing another car on top of Your car so You can drive 10 persons.

Please at least attempt to contribute to the conversation.

if you undervolt  it should be ok but not too safe  2x8pin cable can do 360w  can go bit higher but check if it not getting hot

what you could do is add a wire from a molex cable , it s what i do, i manually connect a wire from the molex +12V and plug it in on 1 of the 3 +12V, and put some tape so the wire cannot get out by accident

problem with vega even if you undervolt to 150w it has a lot of pics what use more than 150w

i tried 2x vega on a 750w psu  when it average use less than 550w , time to time the psu was shuting down (so get up to 700w?)

i put 3x vega on a 850w (there are only 4x 8pin connector) i made 2 extra 8pin  my self used bridge + all molex connectors better use to much wires than too less

Thanks for the real-world experience.  I don't know if I'm down to start diy'ing my own wires, but I'll at least keep an eye on them.  I did a little further combing and found an old post on tomshardware, which may or may not be true?  Either way, it's interesting.  I would love it if someone threw a mythbuster up on youtube for this one.

Johnny & the group,

Have learned several interesting facts about the PCI-E plugs and power after researching it this past week, that is worth sharing

The PCI-E connecter has 6 pins. They are not all used for power. For the 6 pin connector, Pins 1 & 3 are 12V & each can carry 8 Amps. Pin 2 by spec is not connected, although some PSU manufacturers do add a 12V line there. Pins 4 & 6 are Com return lines. Pin5 is Com for sensing. Using 2 lines, you get 12V*8A*2= 192Watts, much over the required 75Watts. With an 8 pin PCI-E connector, 2 Com lines are added (4&Cool not a 12V & Com. There, Pins 1,2,3 are 12V, Pin 4 is a Com for the 8 pin connector sensing, Pin 5,7,8 are Com return lines, & pin 6 is for the 6 pin connector sensing. Using that config, 12V*8Amp*3=288 Watts, much over the required 150Watts.

Since Mar 2005, the molex pins are required to be "HCS" rather than "Std", which each carry a max of 11Amps. So properly made, an 8 pin PCI-e can supply 12V*11Amps*3lines=396Watts of power for the graphic cards.

Ther aren't 4 12V pins on the 8 pin connector, only 3, and 2 leads are used for sensing the connector type.

The other limiting factor of course is the width of the PCB lines on the graphics card, each typically carrying 1-2 Amps. That would also determine how much power it could carry to the graphics electronics.
Also worth noting Scott Meuller in his latest 19th Ed of "Upgrading and Repairing PCs" has this information incorrectly listed.

It doesn't matter if they use HCS connectors if the wire is still 18AWG that can handle only 7Amps max.
Just my 19.9 cents.

My other remark is that the connected pins differ card by card. AMD likes to connect all sense pins also to GND on RX series so they have 3pins 12V and 3pins ground in a 6pin connector, making  3x7Amps×12V=~250Watts.

But you should check with a multimeter first where the pins are connected.
I measured some myself.
Nvidia uses the sense pins only for signaling more frequently.
Thats why nvidia cards always need both connectors plugged in to operate.

well, latest news are about that we won't see ref design Vega cards anymore. Ready for custom cards with custom bioses (need to learn how to undervolt) and (maybe) hynix slow hbm? ))

Where Can I find Devcon.exe? Where's the file location I mean. Please help.

1. Get your hands on the Windows Device Console (Devcon.exe). This will let you disable/enable devices from console.

Two things...
1) You can actually do what you are looking for with a windows script...  no Devcon.exe is required:  http://vega.miningguides.com/p/auto-run-miner-without-hashmonitor.html
2) You can get Devcon.exe direct from Microsoft without an extensive installation by following the method here: (first time I posted this link bitcointalk said it was a suspicious link and took it out... not sure why but I have edited the post to break the link into two pieces... (Just remove the spaces):     https://networchestration.wordpress.com/2016/07/11/       how-to-obtain-device-console-utility-devcon-exe-without-downloading-and-installing-the-entire-windows-driver-kit-100-working-method/

Hi CircusDad, just PM'd you over on Reddit.  StellarX88 has modified the Jericho Jones hash monitoring/restart upon defined trigger setting script so that it works with Cast.  His posting is over on the CastXMR miner thread.

Guys, I just got my 6 Vega 56 cards... I wanted to power them with an EVGA 1600 G2 but I just don't have enough VGA power connectors! Do I really have to connect 2x 8-pin per GPU? Is that needed for mining?

had the same problem using 8 VEGA 64's, eneded up using 2 EVGA 1600 also using the 6 - 2+6 x 2 GQ cables from the EVGA 1000 (note G2 cables dont work with the EVGA 1000)

i am undervolting (1650W total) and checked the thermal image of the rig using a FLIR professional instrument, no probs (aside from a component on the mb but thats a discussion for another thread)

to mine or not to mine,
is not a question...

than is strange because i used it to power an 390 before  did not notice that when the 390 use lot more

In the current market, would you pay $525USD per Vega 56? From a retail outlet.

Australia has a little lag compared to US supply / demand markets.

For reference I paid $430USD each one week ago.

gotta keep an eye out for sales, there was 20% off ebay the other day. 699aud retail - 20% = 559 AUD... i also claimed gst back so got around 490$ AUD a card.

Yes this sale was amazing - I bought 4 and have had the rig going for five days. But I'm desperate for more...

I think eBay will not repeat that sale until 2018 and we are also waiting for amazon.com.au to come online and see if they have any stock. I'm ready to dump $5k USD.

Upon every reboot, I have to try several times before my cards are recognized.  Does anyone else have that?  ie If I cut power (via 'restart' or physically with a switch), upon reboot, attempting to disable gpu's only results in one or two disabling (and conversely one or two are recognized)..  It varies which gpu's won't be recognized, but if they're unrecognized, disabling does not help me, so I attempt rebooting again.  I've changed out risers, but since it's a different gpu giving me problems every time, I'm stumped.  Sometimes I have to wait several minutes w/o power or plug in a physical monitor, but nothing seems to work 100%.
When running, the rig will go for days at a time w/o a hitch, but if there's any day (like this morning) when I wake to find the power's been cut for a second, the miner will be idling because my script failed at startup.  Any ideas?

You should know that AMD will stop making the stock cooler Rx Vega cards or already have done so apparently.   Any stock going through the system is the last of these cards that will be made.   I'm not 100% why that is exactly, they are making the base parts only for the cards and will supply bulk  to the 3rd party makers but they wont be continuing this design themselves, so all the coolers will be varied by maker from here on out and so on.   Probably they wont be this cheap again once the stock is gone.

Not sure if that means theres a sequel Vega coming, like 480 to 580 happened but I think the next Vegas in production arent for PC but they are combining Vega onto a cpu for its low power and other less performance elements.

Lol, just discovered OverDrivenTool for Vega Frontier  Grin (I work away from home during the week so no time for playtime)

Finally something that works on a Frontier ! Afterburner didn't touch voltages

Got my power consumption down below 200W for 2124 H/s during rough tweaking, hopefully I can get power lower

1648 core 1102 memory 1049/910 average hash 2124 over 24 hrs

fan dropped from 3600+ to 2700 ish and temp 1-2C
