The tendency that bitcoin is used to perpetuate crime is very obvious, even before bitcoin western union money transfer was fraudulently used to transfer cash by terrorist, money laundering is commonly used to send cash to criminals and it is likely  that bitcoin  is also used to transfer cash but in the point of exchanging to fiat if it is a huge amount of money the recipient may be questioned to get the source of the money by security agents

From centuries, pirates, robbers, thieves are stealing all valuable things.
After digitalisation hackers are hacking computers, bank, duplicating Debit & credit cards asking valuable currencies USD$ as ransom.
As bitcoin has become the most valuable and continuously uprising currency it is obvious they will use it.
It is quiet hard and almost impossible to crack blockchain and steal bitcoins so hackers are not touching it directly.
They are using backdoors and hacking wallets, stealing private keys.
Current WannaCry ransomware attack, shocked many personal and government institutions get affected badly.
These hackers asked all their payments in Bitcoins.
They used bitcoins because they are entirely untraceable.
One cannot stop these crimes but bicoin community must stop the bad publicity of its most valuable currency.

You can use almost any tool for criminal purposes. What if we ban knifes from being produced because someone can use it to kill people, what about the majority of people that use and needs knifes just to prepare his meal ? Some consensus must be reached and that consensus is that majority cannot pay for the minority doing bad !

Bitcoin likes a kind of money. For sure, there is no way to prevent crimes use Bitcoin for money laundering, drug trafficking,...  The good way is that we can set rule to restrict them.

Criminals also use USD, and more money is used to scam with USD than bitcoins. The more you know!

Yes, bitcoin can be used for or in criminal activities. It's easier to pay with and stay untraceble. But youcan not blame bitcoin for that. You could have money laundry and other illegal stuff with bitcoin, but it's the user who should be blamed.

I'm pretty sure that dollars, pounds, euros, reminbi, ducats, shekels, drachmas, francs, rupees and rubles have also been used in crimes.

Bitcoin is traceable and that is why it is better for survival than monero or zcash which I am sure the "authorities" will hate in the future more than they do bitcoin.

If both the legal big tech criminals and legal government criminals can see your data, so can the illegal criminals.  Swiss based online privacy and data protection is the solution.

Cash/fiats are much widely used in crimes than bitcoin. After all criminals needed cash more than bitcoins or other crypto. Government should regulate more crimes than crypto just sayin
If bitcoin is used in crimes then it is not the fault of bitcoin it totally depend on the user and yeah flat is more used In crimes so one can start blaming bitcoin just because it is used in the crimes see the positivity of bitcoin that is being given to investor one can easily shop from everywhere in this world and more of it is like knife one can use it for cutting throat as well as for surgery so it’s not fault of bitcoin.

All currency is used to crime. It is wrong to just say that bitcoin is used to commit crime. Other currencies such as used in a lot of good work, So bitcoin is used in a lot of good work. All yours you will use bitcoin for the work that you use. Good and bad aspects of everything come in the way that it uses. It is just wrong that bitcoin is used to crime now.

Bitcoins has regained its strong value, As of this posting, the value per 1 bitcoin is exactly 4786.59 US Dollar.   Soon we will see more ways people can squeeze the most out of bitcoins.   Since the advent of the internet to be profit oriented in the 90's, no one would possibly have imagined that the Internet would breed Facebook, Google, Uber, online streaming, etc. This is where we are with the Blockchain now. There exists a whole world of opportunities out there.

These opportunities have the unrighteous users of this cryptocurrencies to also used its advantage. We cannot deny for a fact that cyber crimes have been committed since the birth of the internet.  Once, stealing was done with having guns, now, robbers can easily hack bank accounts or counterfeit credit cards to their advantage.  Sooner, cryptocurrencies can be used to pay crimes such as services for creating counterfeit birth certificates and this is not far from happening.  Actually, the US has already cases on this matter.

Another is the crime of buying illegal-drug emporium that used Bitcoin as a medium of exchange, politicians and policymakers took notice. Criminals, it turns out, really like bitcoins, which can be exchanged for nefarious purposes on the "Dark Web," with complete anonymity and, it seems, impunity.

Although, there are some articles that i have read regarding criminals cannot hide behind bitcoins, still, there are difficulties tracing transactions using cryptocurrencies. That is why law enforcement agencies should have a to change their procedures to pursue criminals who make use of the latest technology to commit crimes. Let the law find a way to evolve to address new tech challenges. There is no reason to expect that law enforcement won’t be able to get a handle on this new cybercrime.

It's true that there is a way to use cryptocurrency for crime, for its anonimus characteristics. But like in other technologies advances, we need have to be some rules about it. I agree with you about, lawmakers should be attending even more attention to this. If you just ignore it, it doesn't mean that it won't exist no more, or that it won't increase. We should accept the challenges and be ready for them.

It CAN be traced unless you mined it yourself. You have to register on an exchange or meet up with someone to buy it!
it doesnt matter who mined it, weather it be some middle school student that just discovered bitcoin, a major pool, or yourself. regardless of who actually finds the block, your transaction's hash is still public on the blockchain for everyone to see, as well as the source and destination addresses of the funds. don't know where you got that idea though.

Perhaps I haven't made it clear enough. When you're buying from an exchange or a person IRL you're leaving a trail from a source. This means that BTC can be traced back to a registered (live) entity and that entity can be asked who they sold it to. In case of a real person it will be your description and in case of an exchange your registration details.
If you're mining it can be traced to a pool, but all they can get is an IP address.
They can also see the destination, but it should be easy to hide as long as they don't use an exchange and spend the coins.

You can hide the IP using a VPN or TOR browser. But sooner or later, you are going to sell your BTC for cash and right now there are no 100% anonymous methods for doing this. Either you are going to withdraw the cash from your bank account or you are going to purchase something from the dark markets. Both the steps are risky.

Agree. But there are a lot of little risky ways to convert BTC for cash. Low risky for the anonymity, but not for losing your money=)

In my country, in some exchangers, you can exchange bitcoin for cash, and on a good exchange rate.
