Still waiting for the 30K IXC bounty.

Still haven't compiled your new client. Will try to do it this week.

Some are saying part of it should go to Luke for his efforts on the website. Please let me know your thoughts.

There is a coin called CounterParty that works of the Bitcoin blockchain.

This plan is to port CounterParty to iXcoin.   There will be no-need to change the 0.8.6 client.  This is additional software to enable  iXcoin with the following additional capabilities:

https://www.counterparty.co/

These allows iXcoin to also work with 'exchange like' capabilities.

Let me know if there is any intersest in this project?

I am seeking 50,000 IXC for this to CounterParty port to be created.

I need to read up about it. 50K is pricey. Not sure we can get that many funds together.

I think I may have figured out who the 'Twin' is:

Gavin Andresen
Chief Scientist of Bitcoin Foundation

iXcoin is an experiment to see what happens when mining subsidy is removed.

Here is your evidence:  https://bitcoinfoundation.org/blog/?p=204

I gave Gavin a 5K IXC, along with other prominent Bitcoin community members at the time of Ixcoin launch. I think he sold them, but he did accept them.

Alright,  would 25K be more reasonable?

Thomas, we've had debates for months now as to what the meaning, if anything, was behind choosing iX for the coin name.  Cause besides the number 9, it doesn't really stand for anything.  And also, there were a lot of ways to mix up Satoshi's name to get an anagram; why did you choose Thomas, which is not Japanese, when you probably could have jumbled the letters together and gotten some Japanese sounding name.

Brilliant move BTW - in choosing a Japanese name and having it be an anagram of Satoshi - a twin for a coin designed to be a twin with a hidden meaning of twin - blew me away when I saw that the first time.  Not sure if that was planned or a mere accident but that's Brilliant.

I preferred Thomas as it is more recognized as a first name.

There's a bunch of reasons and compromises why I choose Ixcoin. I'll write it up sometime.

Question: why is the website ixcoin.org not yet mirroring ixcoin.co?  Angry

Please Nasakioto, do it.

Work hard as IXC was your own coin... Ah! But ... It is your coin...  Grin

I've been distracted lately with the Mtgox debacle. But I'm trying to get the website back up. I'd like to keep a separate domain for the .org with a placeholder page with prominent links to ixcoin.co . I'm getting nowhere with basicnetworks.net so I've just registered with someone else. Waiting for them to invoice me in bitcoin.

You don't appear to be very technologically savvy.  Just curious,  who created the original client?  Who created the merge mined client?

Luke,

Can you please give us an update on your plans for the website?

Can you comment on the .org and .co plans you have and if you're thinking of a different domain name can you tell us what that is and how that would work since that would be a big change in direction from what we all agreed [and voted] on when this whole relaunch started?

The website has been done for nearly 2 weeks now and we finally have Nasakioto and Friction here, together, so it would be nice to get a productive conversation going and get something worked out so we can finally at least launch the website.

Thank you!

Interesting observation about the voting on tricider.

The voting has been closed and looking at the final numbers it's roughly what we had after the first week.  This tells me a couple things.

1) We have a very small investor group here, Max 20 people.

2) It's a very active group as most voted right away.

This is a good thing because it means very few are actually investors which means our potential target investor market is huge relative to any other crypto coin, cause I'm pretty sure even ShitCoin has ore than 20 active members.

Now let's hope something unexpected happens [very soon] and we get this thing moving cause it seems to have "stalled".

Hi Guys,

It's been a while since Ixcoin was updated. Would anyone be interested in working on the client? Here are some things which would be great to implement:

  • Update to latest Bitcoin client's code
  • Switch away from LFnet to another IRC server
(updated)
  • add seed nodes
  • Update the website

I can work on updating the website. I think we're better off having the IXC forum here as running a separate spam-free forum is quite a bit of work. Same goes for a wiki - static pages will be easier.

If you're willing to help, I can contribute some IXCs. If others cannot contribute to the coding effort, then they can also help with some IXCs too. I'm happy to hear any other suggestions.

Still waiting for the 30K IXC bounty.

Still haven't compiled your new client. Will try to do it this week.

Some are saying part of it should go to Luke for his efforts on the website. Please let me know your thoughts.

I think the majority should go to Friction, at least 20-25K IXC.  He came up with the client update, a new website and a forum, and has been promoting iXcoin for quite some time now.  He even did an iXcoin give away.  Friction pretty much met all the requirements you laid out.  Although I don't really consider the client complete until the merged mining is fully tested and the mining community has fully migrated to the new client.  Let's try to get that done soon before discussing too many future upgrades.

I already put in my time to upgrade the 3 year old client to the latest version of Bitcoin and creating the current website.
is the port finished? ie. should people be updating already? looking at the source:

* bip16 and bip30 activate 2014-01-1. this is already past. people running the new client could get forked. p2sh transactions are currently unsafe until the majority upgrade. actually the source comment is wrong. it says '2014-01-01' but it is actually 2014-01-02 according to epoch.
* a patch will need to be made for old clients to update lock limits for bdb. without this old clients can be forked if transactions exceeding certain limits happens on new client. this was cause of the dogecoin fork and the bitcoin fork previously.

other than that i assume all is fine?

I completely forgot about those two bip,  I had set it for the beginning of the year expecting when I performed the work that it would have been deployed by then.  I wlll have to move that to later then.

I will be unable to update the old clients, so the bdb limits may be problematic.  Refresh my memory again as to how Bitcoin solved it when the blockchain forked back in 2013?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we deactivate the two bip's then there is no hard fork.  If so then one strategy is to release the new client in two steps.  The first release could deactivate the two bip's with the primary goal of testing the merged mining and getting everyone on the new database.  I think the main resistance to upgrading is uncertanty about merged mining.  So it's safer to make that transition without the fixed upgrade deadline that a hard fork produces.

The second release can activate the two bip's causing the hard fork.

This strategy has less risk of a catastrophic fork if some miners won't upgrade.  If they are very confident that merged mining is working there should be little or no resistance to the second release.  Better safe than sorry.  Opinions?

I believe the bip's will cause a hard fork.  They change the rules for adding blocks in certain situations.  We shouldn't take it lightly.  It would be very bad if iXcoin splits in two.

The new iXcoin client is based on i0coin.  Look at rsnel's comments on the bip16 and bip30 and forking (splits).

Hi.

There were issues  with www.ixcoin.co that have resulted in it not being assigned to the new website. I don't control that domain name and therefore cannot move it across. ixcoin.org has not been assigned or discussed as the most recent discussions were that Thomas couldn't get the domain back at this stage.

I've registered www.ixcoin.eu and the domain name has been pointed to the new website. It may take up to 72 hours for this propogation process to complete.

Unrelated to the above, I think the discussions relating to Thomas are questioning his integrity and whilst I don't know him and haven't spoken to him I don't feel these discussions containing accusations or conspiracies are condusive to a healthy and mutually respectful community.

Thomas does not have to do anything and neither does any other member of this forum. A healthy community is one in which there is mutual respect, courtesy, encouragement and support. Whilst generally I believe I've received plenty of moral support, I feel that there has been too much pressure, criticism or expectations on members of the community who have or are actively contributing their time towards clear actions, results and outcomes.

I don't believe members should be judged by their financial contribution to the community.  It is important that members who contribute feedback and suggestions rather than funding understand that members contributing to the community are not being paid by other community members therefore pressure and expectations need to be proportionate, respectful and reasonable.

Regards, Luke.

Luke,

Thanks for your response.  iXcoin.eu is great, if we get the .org site back then we can always add it later.

I'm guilty of trying to get answers from guys like Thomas.  I guess it's part curiosity and part frustration, not understanding what's going on with him at times.

But I agree with your post, this type of pressure is not productive nor conducive to our goals and it only stands to separate us further as a group and community.

I'll withdraw my unnecessary questions from this thread right away.

Thanks again.

Edit:  I cleaned up my unproductive posts.  Apologies, Thomas.
