So long story short, a friend owed me for a favor and since I did not have bitcoin before he asked If I would take it in BTC. I didn't mind since I can cash out whenever.
My question is.. what do you think? Its a decent chunk of money for me to just hope something keeps rising, do you think I should "let it ride" or cash out and just be happy with ~$500?

It is up to you, if you have urgent need for money actually you can cash it out and enjoy this amount, if not then hold it for long term because the price is expected to increase highly in the few next months and years. But you have to learn more about Bitcoin before holding because its price still volatile.
Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

If you think you attain the price of Bitcoin you see then sell it for good but i tell you bitcoin price prediction is going crazier so the investors mind and so the demand increase
Yeah no one is aware that what will happen but I think this time bitcoin is going to increase the price very high this time. It’s really good to hold your bitcoin for the long time if you are not in need of money but if you really need money you should go for investment if you will invest your bitcoin so you will get high profit even after a short time. But bitcoin today and wait till it goes high with your gifted bitcoin.

I would personally prefer that you should get some money with you into safety then invest something on it .03BTC is a good investment now a days for ICO's and Trading.
You should not put all of your money if you're not ready to get a negative on to it. investment would always be risky no matter what.  Just Hold your 0.03 until you think the right time has passed.

I would see this gift as something you didn't have before and unless you are desperate for the fiat I would just leave it. To see serious gains you would have to wait for bitcoin to really grow in value. You could however invest in an up and coming coin and see what happens from there.

Bitcoin are really grow in this year the price reach 1million this is so huge amount the best thing to do in your 0.03 btc is to do trading this is a good capital to start before entering to trading industry you need to learn the basic rules of buying/selling altcoin to get this impormation watch some trading tutorial on youtube theres a decent amount of video tutorial you can watch.
Then if you master this tutorial the next step is to do trading and earn profit this is risky but trading is the effective way to earn more btc.

This is what a normal user of bitcoin does and satisfy themselves with whatever they have got. However if you want to grow your chunk into something better then just hold it and wait for the bitcoin to boom beyond 20K next year. You will be more than happy to see how your 500 USD turn into 1K or more if the luck is with you and the crypto currency is blooming. You know very well bitcoin aint going anywhere and if you think that you don't need that money urgently then juts let it rest there and forget about it for at least next 6 months. Im sure you will thank everyone who given you this advice today.

It depends if you really need this money to use right now. If not then you can trade and try to make it bigger by buying one or two different alt coin and sell them when they are higher and buy more and sell like that.

For me what to do with your 0.03 Btc is just HODL or you can invest in a more secure site and it will be rise and you'll be surprised that your btc will be double or triple. But it depends on you if you want it to cash out or you want it to invest. Like now many are rich, because there are so many who are investing in bitcoin because they are smart.

just Start bitcoin trading with this money and you can earn upto 50$ a day from this only , This is truth Check coincapmarket , Top altcoin gainers or you can hold some litecoins it has great future people are interested in litecoins now days. If you seriously need money in cash you can withdraw and Enjoy ,

Before investing in any altcoin be sure you do full research about site you can double or may be 10 times if you hold for long term , you must learn graphs when it dumps when it pumps

Even if the amount means a lot to you, I would advice to keep it. Since the price of Bitcoin keeps increasing and many also predict that it will be like that in 2018. It is actually about taking the risk, but I would take it if I were you.

Look at bitcoin trading chart for last few months and make your own decision.

Bitcoin price was under $1000 on start of 2017 and now it is almost $20k which is 20x within 12 months.

Just hold those $500, you might be able to cashout $5000 by end of 2018 if current craze over bitcoin will continue till next year but there is also risk of losing large chunk of money. If market crashes you might just get $200 for same 0.03BTC

Since you are fairly new to bitcoin, you should first learn how to use bitcoin securely. Learn how to keep your funds safe, how to transact and how fees affect your confirmation time. You can also start learning how to trade and begin trading with small amounts.
Or if you don't want to risk anything, just cash it out. Smiley

i think you can use the bitcoin for investment. look a decent ICO maybe, buy their token, hold till the price high, and profit.
for me, if you just cash out your bitcoin, nothing interesting happen, but if you like to something unexpected (good or maybe bad), my advice is use your bitcoin for invest.

I think if you don't know bitcoin well, you can change it to cash. If it's me, I'll do it. You can also choose to invest in some ICO projects to get a bigger return! Grin

Keep the bitcoin. I'll give you my example.
I have a collection of stamps. My father has bought stamps for 40 years. They were not worth much 30 years ago, not even 15 years ago, now they are worth more than 40 000 Euros!
Keep this 0.03 bitcoin for 20-30 years. Now it is not worth much, but in 20-30 years you could buy a home with it!

The fact that you put this question out shows that you don't know much about bitcoin / trading.
If your life doesn't depend on this $500, then let it be there. Meanwhile, learn about bitcoin, altcoins and market principles in general. You would then be in a better position to decide what's best for you. By then your $500 would have become $800, may be. You wouldn't lose anything anyways.
