So long story short, a friend owed me for a favor and since I did not have bitcoin before he asked If I would take it in BTC. I didn't mind since I can cash out whenever.
My question is.. what do you think? Its a decent chunk of money for me to just hope something keeps rising, do you think I should "let it ride" or cash out and just be happy with ~$500?

OP if the money means alot to you then you should cash out. Only invest what you can afford to lose, and know that bitcoin is not a "safe" investment. You should do a lot of research on it before you actually decide to invest.

It's really up to you man. It's your money. But if you take a look at bitcoin right now, why not try riding it? I think you wouldn't lose out considering that $500 dollar you got for a favor.

I completely agree. Maybe the smartest thing is to leave $100 or so and cash out the rest.
I'd just be super bummed to cash out then see 19 or 20,000 tomorrow lol

It is your call and depends on whether you need the money or not. I would definitely HODL that for the long term, but that is me. You are the only one that knows your needs and current financial status.

Are you interested at all in Bitcoin? From here, you can get other altcoins or even experience Bitcoin trading. If you are at all interested, try sending some to a different address just to experience how it works, or even use it in actual transactions. The network is still congested, but it's not as bad as the past few days. You can also use it to try other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, which has actually experienced more growth this year than Bitcoin.

If you don't really need the money, even if you're not interested in the technology, just hold it until the value appreciates some. You could wait for it to reach some arbitrary value like $20k, which is not that far off, then dump. It's quite a waste to simply dump now in my opinion.

Don't withdraw it now man. I'm sure that it's not yet on its limit. Or BTC don't have it's limit. If it does basing on the prediction of others. It's still too far from $50,000. You better wait for it to reach that of even $30,000. You need to trust BTC to make it big. But we can't convince you more. I have nothing to prove to you that it will reach that. But just check any good news or bad news you can have. Gather many information about  BTC and its future. For me if I don't need any money for now. I will just let it stay there and wait for the exact time that it will be more. But it depends on you. Good luck buddy.

If you feel you cannot be patient enough to 'let it ride' then withdraw 75% of the $500 and leave the rest or you can donate all the money to charity as a good cause.

Stay away from that dude telling you to contact him on WhatsApp or email.

The best way is to hold this amount of BTC. Probably in 1-2 years it will be 1-2 k $ and you can spend it for something  Smiley

If you don't need it at the moment then just keep it in your wallet. I believe bitcoin has some steam left for it to go up and reach new all time high again. There are so many forks happening so people would want to get some of it thought those forks are not that trending. People are more curious than ever about bitcoin and demand is getting bigger so price would follow suit. If you are conservative then you might want to cash out half of it and left half in the wallet or you might want to trade it.

You seem to be a budding entrepreneur if you don’t need the money then let it ride but make sure you store it somewhere you have full control over. You could also benefit from the wave of airdrops and Bitcoin forks which may add value also.

If I were in your shoes mate, I would just hold on it. .03BTC is already a fair amount however, with the increasing price of bitcoin day by day, it's best to just let it sit on your wallet and just watch it grown overtime.

Just let it ride and I think you don't need the money anyways, right? Remember bitcoin price started at around $700 this year and look at where the price stands. Just my .2 BTC.

Let it ride and you could even buy some more if you can afford it.  Hopefully your money can make you money.  Good luck to you.

Thanks for the kind remarks and to everyone else for their valued input.
Thought I'd let everyone know I cashed out ~$400 worth and left roughly $150 to let it ride.
I made this decision based upon the holidays coming up and $400 would help out quite a bit.
However, I'm excited to see the $150 appreciate some nice value  Smiley

$500 is a lot of money if you need money now for your expenses then cash it out otherwise reinvest it in altcoin to make more money. I started trading with only $300 and I was getting $10-$20 daily but it does require some knowledge about the market otherwise you can loose your money. I would advise you to start trading with small amount to see if it interests you. Good luck

While $500 was a decent amount of BTC to hold I would have holded it for a few months to let it rise. You should have holded the money if you were able to afford the expenses from your fiat amount. Who knows, the $500 you had could have turned into $1000 in a few months. The $150 you hold now just turn into $300 if the above scenario came true. Though $150 is an average amount to hold it would have made a big difference with the $500 as the larger amount, the larger profit.
