So even we purchase this unit, we will still have the MPP to protect our first 400GH unit right ?

I mean that this extra chip wont be taken in account if in 3 months time we have to apply the MPP yes ? The MPP just covers and takes cares of the initial 400GH that we purchased if I am right

Yes, the MPP has nothing to do with this upgrade option and is solely based on the original machine you purchased (if it came with and/or you purchased the MPP).

HashFast will ship their first chip (to spec) to a buying customer on, or before October 31st, 2013.

Code:
HashFast Technologies (http://hashfast.com/) is a fabless semiconductor manufacturer specializing in extreme performance hashing ASICs.

Their first chip, the Golden Nonce (GN) microprocessor, is in the final stages of development. The GN will ‘tape-out’ and be sent to manufacturing in August. Fabrication will take a little bit over two months, and the chips will ship to customers in October.

The GN chip will perform more than 400 Ghash per second, and uses as little as 10% of the power per Ghash as the current-generation ASICs.

Current-generation ASICs power per Ghash is defined as 1W for 1Ghash.

HashFast's GN Bitcoin mining microprocessor will ship to a buying customer on, or before October 31st, 2013, must hash more than 400 Ghash per second, and only draw a maximum of 40W.

Editor's note: We will judge the statement according to the forum posts. We will call it a draw if we think that there is not enough evidence either way.

QG

Where did this "10% of current-generation" power use claim come from?

I don't recall HashFast ever saying they'd get 400GH with 40 watts.

Hashfast's promised spec is <1 watt per gigahash, not 0.01!

Did the creator of this bet just make up something impossible to ensure Hashfast can't win?!?

I think that if either cointerra or hashfast where hoping to get 10Gh with a Watt, they would have told us in each way they could.
If they can really achieve 10Gh with a Watt, my investment will be really bad and current prices are really 50x what they will be 6 months from now, meaning, that difficulty will go up another 50x in the next 6 months.

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:

We are heading towards a 50x increase anyway, even at the current projected power efficiency.  Though I am also pretty sure it will  take longer than 6 months to sell, produce and deploy all that.

Yes, i agree with that. Probably even more than 50x. But one thing is to achieve that in 2 years, another is to have that in 6 months. If the chips were really that efficient the boost on sales would be huge. (and the price would go down dramatically really fast)

I guess that's a typo and should've been 400 watts.
Did the creator of this bet just make up something impossible to ensure Hashfast can't win?!?
It's not about HashFash winning, it's about the one who made the bet winning. So maybe it wasn't a typo and he bets on people not reading carefully enough and them thinking "sure they'll do better than 400W for 400GH/s" and bet against him. I'm not sure how strict these bets are judged.

No matter the power efficiency, the speed at which the network will grow before approaching an equilibrium between mining profitability and production cost is only limited by the ability of KnC/hashfast/CT/BFL etc to ship miners. They will sell everything they produce for quite some time, for as long as marginal production cost is below perceived profitability. Its only the difficulty level at which that equilibrium is found that is heavily influenced by power efficiency (and to a lesser degree, production cost).

Some numbers and charts here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=295270.0

And perhaps thats a more appropriate thread to continue this discussion should you want to.

Hmm, reading the bet again:
"as little as 10% of current-generation ASICs" is marketing speak for "10% (rounded down) of the least efficient ASIC you might have been able to buy on the day we wrote this"
"Current-generation ASICs is defined as 1W for 1Ghash" is the bet maker only considering the most efficient ASIC he could find: Bitfury @ 0.9 J/GH
Then proceed to take 10% of 1 J/GH times 400 GH and you get 40W.

this is a great solution.  this makes me very happy as it will fit nicely into the solo mining configuration i currently have set up.

The Raspberry Pi will ship with an SD Card pre-loaded with the standard Debian/Linux derivative Raspbian OS, complete with CGMiner pre-installed.

Nice, but why not ship with minepeon pre-installed? http://minepeon.com/index.php/Main_Page

The goal is to get ckolivas to directly support the embedded cgminer.

HF has set aside a donation unit for him to develop on and will be shipped to him ASAP. It's probably time to contact him.

Hashfast, Is it possible to buy just the upgraded hardware with no Chip?

Since I plan on the MPP kicking in I would want to upgrade all the current supplies. If it is possible how much would it cost? If not possible can a babyjets peices be replaced with offthe shelf power supplys and cooling?

One interesting thing that the expansion board shows us is the max cost for MPP.

The MPP is raw chips only not assembled boards, HF hasn't provided details on estimate cost to turn a raw chip into an assembled board.  The expansion board is $1500 and that includes the cost of the chips and some (unknown %) profit margin.  It does provide an upper limit for the MPP.  My guess is that someone (either HF or third party) will be able to provide boards at $500 plus ASIC chip.

A couple new questions for HF.

1) If one purchases the expansion/upgrade board will it ship with the original unit on the original order date as a single device with two boards OR will the original order ship (w/ upgraded PSU and cooling) ship on the original order date and the expansion/upgrade board at a later date based on order number?

2) Can the heatsinks on the FET be removed?

3) What is the size of the radiator used in the Babyjet?

Before purchasing the "upgrade" I would like to know a few things, because after all the "sales" and not really much information provided, it seems that all HF cares by the moment is getting more and more money. So:

- Really aproximate shiping date of the babyjet batch 1 ? Batch 2?
We dont really need an exact day and hour, but as it seems that you have already ordered the pcb manufacturing, everything goes as planed with the chips and I suposse that you have an estimate number of babyjets to assenbly per day, just please give us a real date of both batches so we can estimate if it is worthy to purchase this extra or not.
- This special and extra chip will be given by the same time as the 2 batch of babyjet and sierras shipped, right ?
So if we make the purchase of this extra, which will be the queue we are added on ? We are going to be added after or before the people that already purchased that units ?

- With the power supply included in this extra unit, will be enough to make OC to both chips ?

- Notices of the  hosting plan ? Hosting fees ?

And I thin that with that is enough for the moment  Cheesy

Baby Jets use industry standard (off the shelf) PSUs and cooling.

You can easily get them at Newegg or Amazon.

It would be nice to have the option of getting a beefier PSU and extra cooling system with the original, but they don't offer that option yet.

Hi Visesrion,
Approximmate shipping date of Batch 1 is Oct. 20-30. Approximate shipping date of Batch 2 is Nov. 30. The Baby Jet Upgrade Kits approximate shipping date will be with Batch 2 is Nov. 30.

We are sending an additional power supply to accomodate the 2nd chip, we will be releasing exact specs on that soon.

Hosting details are coming soon!

Thanks,
Cara
