Does anyone know if these miners can only be used for Bitcoins or can they be used for any SHA-256 coin?

Alts sha256 can be mined. No scrypt.

Thanks for the info.

Depending on which pools you choose you can mine, as follows (from my quick research made in order to mine SHA256 alcoins):

MiningPool.co
ZET   UNO   TEA

MultiPool.us
ZET   PPC    TRC    FRC

PoolWarz.com
ZET    UNO   ASC   BCX   BET   CCC   DEM   FFC   TGC   TRC   UNIC   XJO

So if you buy a BlackArrow hardware, you'll have enough options not only BTC mining  Smiley
Of course there are other pools which can be found on the main page of each coin.
Hope his helps and happy mining!

What makes you think Global Foundries owes anyone but their customers any information on what they are presently engaging in? I'm sure their inbox is inundated with spam from folks who have nothing better than to troll around forums and speculate about what influences the bitcoin mining scene.

If anything they will not comment to an unknown source as it may not be in their customers interest and a complete waste of their time. Put things into perspective and rationalize what is going on in a greater sense before trying to use something which is logical as evidenced to support your own conspiracy theories.

Great argument! But how do you explain Verisilicon replying when not once, not twice, but three times they were asked if Black Arrow was one of their customers with an affirmative? The exact same argument applies here.

What is being asked is in no way NDA related.

PG with all due respect; I'm unwilling to venture down this investigative rabbit hole. In time history may say that you were 100% correct in your assumptions but they could equally state these were the ramblings of a madman. I haven't personally invested the time in your writings to form my own opinion nor will I, although you do appear to be a rather colorful individual from what little I've read. If nothing more it's beneficial to have critical thinkers interspersed with over enthusiastic spectators in such an unregulated situation.

What is clear is that greed has made typically rational people do irrational things and put their hard earned money on nothing more than the promise of magic beans. Not just here but across the mining hardware spectrum they've laid down their bet with so many variables in place that they have exposed themselves to 100% risk. What I see mostly is people subsequently attempting to fight their way back to a rational point in a situation which they themselves assisted in the creation of.

BA may have a very competitive ASIC in the end when all the dust settles and people will no longer pay gold for silicone. Unfortunately turning those magical beans into capitalizing on the arms race doesn't appear as attractive with the release date.

Bitcoin Miners progress update – 05 March 2014

1.Global Foundries has informed us that Minion wafer manufacture is starting tomorrow. This is 1 week ahead of schedule, therefore we’ve recovered the 3 days delay in tapeout and we’re 4 days ahead of schedule.
2.We have completed the minion substrate package design
3.Received confirmation that probe card wafers will be completed next week and sent to packaging house
4.X1 backplane size was corrected and re-sent to the factory
5.Completed re-design of the X3 hash board, pending review
6.We have visited the heatsink factory, approved the X1 & X3 heatsink design and have started the moulds.
7.We have met with power supply factory representatives and have signed the final documents to start the manufacturing
8.X3 case review came back from the case factory, we still need to address some minor details for improved performance
9.Completed thermal simulations for X3 case, now running thermal simulations for X1 case
10.Completed CS-CART payment processor for LTC, BTC and PPC, pending final review to get it online

The discrepancy in $/hash has forced miners into these larger more costly systems to maintain a competitive edge. Lower cost rigs have come to the point of extremely tangible uncertainty on return. Without a profound rise in the currency to regain short term profitably, extrapolate this model and all that remains is submersion cooled ASIC farms and no independent miners. Do I like this conclusion? No since it puts control over future BTC distribution in the hands of the few. At present for some a 6K miner may have them looking for the exit but it's all relative. The more affluent in BTC or $ may see this as a short term advantage. The only current advantages may come from accepting risk in getting on the bandwagon early with something that fleshes out ahead in the $/hash arena but one must appreciate what that little rig is destined to be up against when it finally gets plugged in.
