Hey guys I want to thank you for going the fork route. I decided to grab a few amd vegas during labor day sales. My question is when do you think you put the new tweaks into operation? I have not seen a date but I could have missed it. Thanks philipma1957

@cloudHH can you review these changes from ASIC designer point of view?

@philipma1957 It should be merged and launched on testnet very soon, we're just waiting for one or two more qualified reviews.

@MoneroCrusher We don't have time left now for the change of this scale. It'll basically require re-testing it on all CPU/GPU and a few more rounds of fine-tuning the algorithm. But it's an obvious improvement for the variant 3.

Currently have my AMD rigs on moneroocean (using SRBminer to auto-switch between Cryptonight-based algos, and exchanging to XMR). Quite happy with that solution atm.

Interesting, I did not know MoneroOcean.

Lately Cryptonight is at the top of profitability considering it consumes less energy.

I will need to check it out myself.

I was able to get 4 msi vega 56 cards new  at very good prices .

they do 1700 easy  no flash no work just 18.8.1 and msi afterburner.

I have had them for under a week I will be trying to see what I can do with them.

it is  399.99 after rebate

Have to put in a rant against ETH too...
Second biggest crypto by market cap... Highly influential devs, massive community... and they can't even get their official wallet to run. Impossible to send any coins or tokens, latest release 0.11.x just buggy as fukc. Absolutely shambolic.

I want to sell the few ETH I have left. And even that I can't do at the moment. Unbelievable.

The best vega 56 are the original blower fan type,as you can flash them with vega 64 bios and have almost same perf > 2000H/s

You can always just use MEW by importing your private key or wallet file, I wouldn't recommend this however.

Just use the command line and make a raw transaction and just broadcast it with a block explorer.

I've posted the instructions a few posts back to Philipma1957.

Besides the Bitcoin wallet, it seems most coins have a buggy wallet. I think Monero's is the worst actually.

Thanks, gonna do that now (not MEW, but using command line in geth).

TBH yes, the Monero wallet was never a joy to use, but at least you could send and receive coins. The ETH wallet has always been a pos. Now it just takes the biscuit.

EDIT: can't seem to get anywhere with GETH either, it's only importing block headers (even with syncmode --light). Nothing I can type. Any clues?

What do people know about the Cuckoo Cycle by John Tromp?  I recently read about it in an Alt ANN, but hadn't heard about it before.

Memory bound; graph-theory.

Does anyone have any experience mining with it?  The concept of being memory bound seems similar to Equihash, but a bit different in its implementation.

claims to be asic friendly so it is worthless.

Sounds harsh but we don't need asic  friendly coins or algos.

If all the world is a perfect super highway (asics)  what good is it without cars too drive on it?(gpus)

Now does this mean I hate asics no I don't.

It does mean we need

Fpga coins
GPU coins
CPU coins

I see BTC as the super highway and alt coins as taxis and trucks needed to move transactions.

Fpga coins
GPU coins
CPU coins

Wait, it's memory-bound, so wouldn't that mean that it would be very FPGA friendly?  I think that's what the statement sort of means on the github page, though I could be wrong.  It's ultimately bound by Memory Bandwidth... so it should be the super FPGA algo.

@Marvell2: I sent you a message a couple of days ago about some of your wisdom mining x16r on Vegas... Would be very interested to hear how you're tweaking your GPUs. I suspect pure Vega64's hash a little faster than flashed 56's, but the speeds you were posting in the other thread were quite impressive...

Any clues?

These are my instructions for ubuntu but should be similiar for windows. Basically its what I used for cold storage so it should work without downloading any of the headers.

Quote
sudo apt install git
git clone https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum
sudo apt-get install -y build-essential golang
download https://storage.googleapis.com/golang/go1.7.linux-amd64.tar.gz
tar xvf go1.7.linux-amd64.tar.gz
sudo chown -R root:root ./go
sudo mv go /usr/local
sudo nano ~/.profile
export GOPATH=$HOME/work
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/go/bin:$GOPATH/bin
source ~/.profile
cd go-ethereum
make geth
? cp build/bin/geth /usr/bin
run /home/ubuntu/Desktop/go-ethereum-master/build/bin/geth console
personal.newAccount("passphrase")
personal.unlockAccount(eth.accounts[2], "my pwd here")
eth.signTransaction({ from: "SOURCE_ADDRESS", to: "DESTINATION_ADDRESS", value: web3.toWei(3210, "ether"), nonce: 40 })

Just the last 4 lines are all you need

Run geth with the console setting "geth console"
Make a new wallet and use any password (you wont use this wallet)
After that a new directory should be created in your folder, I think its called "wallets" go there and erase the new wallet and replace with your wallet you want to use.

Unlock using
personal.unlockAccount(eth.accounts[0], "my pwd here")

Write a raw transaction using

eth.signTransaction({ from: "SOURCE_ADDRESS", to: "DESTINATION_ADDRESS", value: web3.toWei(3210, "ether"), nonce: 40 })

3210, is how much ether to send
40 is the nonce, if sending for the first time from that address use 0 or 1 (i forgot which ). If you enter the wrong nonce, it will just get rejected, no big deal.

GO to any ETH block explorer and broadcast your transaction hash.

Yeah things are starting to get out of hand, especially with ETH.

No idea if its true or not but apparently some mother of her child posted on Twitter/Reddit/Facebook (don't remember which) that her kid ended up committing suicide because he used his student loans to buy ETH and he got very depressed and couldn't take it anymore.

No idea if its true. With what people post on the internet it could all be a joke.

I found the link on Reddit but can't located it anymore, if someone knows what I am talking about post the link.
