DarkCoin might be ASIC Resistant but it's far from fucktard resistant... Supporters of this coin are it's biggest liability it would seem. A peculiar model on which to build an economy.
Says one of the fucktards... Says the person who's first ever post was this My only concern for BTC is that there aren't enough intelligent people in the human race.... While it is a network of computers, without the people operating those computers, it ceases to exist. If there aren't enough people with IQs above room temperature to keep it viable, it isn't viable. It is essentially a currency built on intellect, something sadly lacking from the average human being today....
If only his mother clicked on "ignore" when she saw his "father"! But then we wouldn't have the privilege of having him here to 'impart his wisdom' on the rest of us. Touche! Lol. What an asshole. It's always the ones running around telling everyone they are superior that are actually extremely stupid, bitter, failures of people. He's been around since 2011? He's probably bitter because he was too stupid to see an opportunity and now takes his anger out on everyone else. As a newbie who has just read the last hundred pages, I wish to see him gone from this thread. I like the currency but if you have assholes like this running around thinking they are self important it just gives dark a bad name. Don't worry, just buy DRK, send them to a wallet, encrypt it and sit back! No need to be in here really!

So, who wants to talk about DRK?
We should start a speculation thread. Would be a good way to gauge sentiment.

Please go back a couple of pages. Internetape posted his analysis which pointed to a combination of lack of basic hardening steps.

Is anyone concerned about having half the nodes at a facility that currently has a $600m contract with the CIA for use of their cloud servers, or is this a non-issue?
What are you talking about? This sounds like FUD. They won a bid over IBM less than 6 months ago, its apparently to host a dedicated CIA cloud, but i wouldnt rule out them having access to the facility itself. Can you source please? Thanks. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=amazon+wins+cia+cloud+contractAmazone GovCloud ip is 96.127.0.0/18 (96.127.0.0 - 96.127.63.255) You can rest assured that CIA won't be on Amazon GovCloud unless (or even if) they are hosting front-end web application services on there only. It will most likely be a private cloud offering for them. Yeah from what i understand it is a private cloud, amazon got some shit for it because theyve always been against private clouds(i guess the money wasnt good enough) Im not a code guy so im looking at it like, if amazons holding CIA intel then agents probably have direct physical access to the hardware, which theoretically means they have physical access to the facility itself, and thus (some) nodes, i guess depending on what data centers theyre at. Isnt it super easy for them to just go in and unplug a bunch of nodes because TERRISMZ? Again im not a code guy, so i dont even know if nodes can be readily recognized or anything, maybe putting darkcoin nodes, amazon cloud and cia together in my brain just threw up red flags(as far as safety, not intention). Plus those guys dont really follow rules, they just issued an apology for pretending to give people vaccines while they were really collecting blood looking for bin laden dna. These are insane people. If im reaching way too far, kindly disregard

So here was the issue(s). It appears there is someone that is pulling all the masternodes from the wallet and running scripts on them to hack in. And in this case they was able to gain access via SSH, so it had nothing to do with problems in the wallet/daemon/masternode itself. - The firewall was not running, so all ports were open
- Root access via SSH was allowed
- OpenSSL v1.0.1f was installed on the server
- The password to unlock the wallet was still in bash history command
- The root password was less than 8 characters
My recommendations: - DO NOT allow root ssh access
- Only open port 9999 in your firewall to the world
- Only open port 22 (SSH) to a trusted ip
- Setup SSH to use certificates for logging in
- Do not run any application on the server that you dont have to
- Encrypt you wallet
- Clear your bash history
There are more, but this would have secured this server. If any of you can spare a few darkcoins to help this person, he lost 999DRK because of the above issues. his wallet address is XhGwaKJPMdqEyMU85QBReNNMzVGKDW2EPz He learned the HARDWAY how not to setup your masternode. I will be putting together a list of things to check and an ISO and AMI for people to use with MOST of the issue addressed, you will still be responsible for checking any think I missed and verify it works for your setup. His lose WILL help everyone else by showing what you MUST setup so please help him where you can. I will pull some together myself to send.

You've been warned.
Yes, thanks for that. Your posts, and this thread itself, serves as a 1559 page warning for all newcomers to stay well away from this mess. m_murphy, I respect you for the work you have been doing with maxcoin. Frankly I think your energy is better spent on your dev work over there than generating heat on this forum. I know times have been tough over at maxcoin. But please do not disparage DRK, they have a great product that fills a real need. It is just having some teething issues as to be expected with any new product. Heck, even the Keiser himself has joined the dark side. Tough to fight it.

Please add all of the above to the FAQ list otherwise more compromises will follow. People also need to understand that security is not a one time task. You will have to proactively scan your MN and remediate on an ongoing basis. If you are not able to do this, please host with a company that provides this service for a fee. [/quote]
I want to host with a company that provides this service for a fee. I next concern will be for their security being a target by co locating so many MNs. There is still a risk hosting with a company.

These are insane people. If im reaching way too far, kindly disregard There is guaranteed to be no physical or virtual connection between the two clouds. Maybe except for (not even) agency's simple website, nothing Defense or Intelligence can be hosted on the GovCloud, or anything tangent to it. Even if you are hosted on the GovCloud or commercial cloud, you have no right or expectation of a right to enter the data center unless for an initial site visit. I mentioned this before, if you wish to be concerned with anything, read up on "key escrow". There is no need to physically touch anything touch to snoop, listen, manipulate, etc. There is no need for any software to have a backdoor, etc. All of those discussion sound quite non-technical. Those who wish to listen already are listening, know who is who, and what they are capable of.

I hate to say this, but handing out an ISO for a MN built by a competent person is in a very real way analogous to handing out condoms to horny teenagers. You can tell them not to fuck all you want, but they're still going to do it. At least if they have rubbers they're less likely to get the drip-dick or pregnant.
In this case, if MNs get a rep for being a major Achilles heel to the coin and people start looking elsewhere, we're all screwed. All of us.
It's not my preference, believe me, but in the bigger picture it may be the safer thing to do. Anyone who's ever run a business will understand the need to eat a shit sandwich for the greater good now and then.

It is discouraging to see him post the way he has been posting on this thread. Maybe it is time to start a new thread altogether. By the way, the guy with the MN issue is loaded with DRK. Check his post history.
