After many months of consideration, I have finally made the choice to announce the planned closure of BTC Guild.  Below, I've outlined the closure process/timeline and reasons that this decision was made.

Already a story on venturebeat...google bitcoin >news.
BOL whatever you decide.  It was really terrific for someone like me who just got involved about a year ago to have direct access to someone with your knowledge.
Thanks!

Are you going to allow people to withdraw all BTC/NMC before any sale so they can make their own minds up if they want to stay with the new owners or not.

He said that's mandatory.

This is a small update, and is reflected on the website.  There is already interest being shown by multiple parties, at least two of which appear to be seriously interested, in purchasing BTC Guild.

While I absolutely recommend users prepare to switch pools, it *may* not be needed.  If the pool is sold prior to November 30th, or is in the final stages of negotiation, then the pool will continue to operate, hopefully without any downtime in the transition to new management.
Out of curiosity, how much would you want for BTCguild? Are you willing to make any of the pool financials public to a potential buyer?

What sort of liability were you holding when running BTCGuild, I would have thought if that's an issue you could have forced automatic payouts on balances greater than 1.0, 0.1, 0.01 etc etc depending on exactly how low you wanted to get it.

Forcing automatic payouts on dust amounts would make the pool less desirable. Of course, "dust" means different things to different people, but you don't want to end up like I once did with a p2pool wallet where I paid 0.5 BTC in fees to send 2 BTC.

Sorry to hear that you're leaving mining, Eleuthria. The BTC world will be much smaller without you.

At least for now, the site will remain fully operational.  It will likely be sold and transferred to a new owner.  I will likely continue to be involved in some capacity after the acquisition.

If negotiations fall through, there will be a new closure notice which will reset the 3-months notice [the previous notice is void].

So, just so it can be said.

We're now in what I suppose would otherwise be a holding pattern where a new 3 month (1 month to mine, 2 months to collect) notice will be issued if and when it is needed ?

Yes.  If negotiations aren't successful, you would get the same type of notice that was posted yesterday.  1 full month of warning before mining servers stop working, and 2 additional months (3 months total) to withdraw your balance, beginning on the date of the new notice.  It would likely be slightly more time than that, since I prefer to use end-of-month cutoff dates.

If that happens, it will be a firm closure at that time.  I will not keep the pool users in a state of uncertainty by bouncing back and forth between closing and selling.

BTC Guild Shutting Down Likely Being Sold

Just hours after making this post, multiple parties have expressed strong interest in purchasing BTC Guild and keeping it running. As a result, the previously announced timeline for closure of operations has been cancelled, and the site will likely continue without interruption.

and after so many people sayed how great btc guild owners are, they sold their users for money ... Cheesy life...

I am working hard to make sure there is a sale and the pool stays open.
You have put together the best pool by far and if it closes it will be a blow to Bitcoin in a very negative way.
Thanks for you hard work and open behavior over the years.  We need more like you in mining.

I have mined only on BTCGuild and never had any issues or suspicions not sure where to go from here Sad
I'm afraid that new management isn't going to be same as you was Sad

Good luck in your new venture/ventures  Smiley

Sad to hear that BTC Guild is probably going to be sold. I haven't mined much at BTC Guild but from what I've seen and heard (and from my short time on the pool as well) it was a great pool with an outstanding operator. Hopefully the new owners will continue down the same path as BTC Guild has been for so many years.
