Apologies if it's been asked/answered before, but I could not find it either here or on the site...

Is there a minimum withdrawal threshold or fee for Namecoins?

No direct fees on NMC withdrawals, but only automatic withdrawals are done for NMC (intervals of 0.01), so the sub-cent bits (0.00x) can't be pulled out.  So I suppose the "fee" is whatever is leftover beyond 0.01 if you empty the account and quit mining.

And others say they don't work on Guild...I love how it seems ASICs are becoming even less consistent than their first generation units.

Everything I've ever mined with from 1st gen stuff to the most recent gear has worked best at the Guild. I have several old Bitfury rigs still running and they only like it here. They didn't even work well on GHash and that's their bread & butter miner, lol.

I hate to say it but my SP10s get a better hashrate here although I hate the luck.

That's because more and more of them doing their drivers and cgminer forks all themselves and don't involve us any more. Occasionally they ping us after the fact and expect us to fix their problems. It's a bizarre hardware+software disconnect landscape...

I agree.
It makes no sense.

The S4 works great on BTCGuild. Just set difficulty for its worker to 2048.

...which is exactly what happened with the S4...

It turns out the controller is so low powered that it can only process ~30 shares per second which mean that unless diff is set higher, they work their way into a death spiral before diff catches up. Great...

So it's a hardware issue then?

It is a firmware issue.

It is a firmware issue.
They are working on it now.

Shame they didn't work on it before shipping them:

Our R&D team is testing the latest firmware, we will upload it to our official website once it is ready.

Aren't you supposed to test the firmware before shipping them?

I'm a little confused tbh, as ck says:

It turns out the controller is so low powered that it can only process ~30 shares per second which mean that unless diff is set higher, they work their way into a death spiral before diff catches up. Great...

Which to me sounds like a hardware issue - or is it the firmware that decides how much power is provided to the controller?
