Os2sam,

Yea, I figured that out real quick.. I used to be a information security specialist and networking specialist many moons ago. This is just something new to me and I'm of course learning, but thank you for your help as well!

Thanks again,

Cole

So after some testing, I changed physical USB ports on PC, changed USB cable, and reduced to 4 from 5 sticks as after inspecting 1 of the sticks it looked like a cap or diode on board was touching solder blobs.(removed just to see if it was what is causing issue). However it hasn't stopped but runs alot longer without fully shutting down on 4 sticks. I setup logging and this is what triggered shutdown after running for almost 12hrs without issue other than random resets.

Code:
[2020-05-23 15:41:46.154] 14: GSH 14 - usb failure (-1)
Assertion failed!

Program: C:\Users\Myke\Desktop\NewPac Miner\cgminer-4.11.1-windows-gekko\cgminer.exe

I Don't understand the coding, if someone could shed some light.

This might have been said before, but I don't feel like going through all 82 pages. Is there a way to find the temperature of the mining chips on the newpac? I am currently running them at 450 freq with no issue, but I want to check to make sure the temperatures are ok. Just touching them the are cool, but I am wondering if there is a more in-depth way.

You don’t have to read 82 pages.  Just go to the top of the page for this thread and enter “temp” in the search box and follow the linked results.  Appears there are a few different numbers you can go buy.  I find the best way to measure temp is with an infrared temperature gun.  They are under $100 USD, but luckily I got one through work for my job.  My opinion is if the heat sink on your NewPac is cool to the touch, you have nothing to worry about.

Just wanted to pop in and Say thanks for the amazing piece of hardware. Just picked up a Newpac to test out and it works flawlessly. Waiting on a Rpi and a hub to arrive. Once they do I hope to have the setup powered completely with solar and batteries. Then scale up newpacs as budget allows. Looking forward to the next iteration of newpac if one is in the works!!

Also I think ill be building a sensor system to monitor the temp of each miner i get running with DS18B20 one wire sensors, would attaching them to the side of the heatsink with a thermal pad give an accurate enough reading? should I use something to totally encase the sensor to the side of the heatsink(hotglue, or something) so the fans/passing air dont mess with the reading? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

So I have been running experiments with each Newpac(BM1387) stick and its gekkoscience 7 port hub(fan is in port 1). When all 5 sticks are inserted they are in sequence starting at port 2.

I have test each sticks voltage settings all using port 2, on switching from 1 stick to next at times I get close to same voltage reading, but other times when inserting cold I am getting fluctuated readings.

- 1st round I was averaging around .4600v , 2 sticks did read @ .3860v & .4020v.
- cold on some voltage starts low around .2880v & stabilized @ .4000+v
- I am trying to adjust all to around .4500v across all

Questions:

1) Are these reading normal?  (Voltage differences when cold vs hot)

2) What is Normal Running voltage of chips? (Don't want to set too high and damage chips)

3) Should Voltages differ from port to port on hub?

Test Equipment:
     - Brymen BM867s @500,000 resolution on 5v reference device is 5.00301v.

The chips have to self-balance so the reading across any one chip will vary. The factory setting is 830mV across the pair.

This is where I was taking readings

- After Adjusting All to match

- All tested average @43 degrees Celsius @center screw on back of MB

- Stick (1 - 5) .4450 while running for 10 minutes @ 300mhz

- This is the best I can do, let's see How long I can keep running without Zombie reset. I tried using gaming Laptop to run but unable to get it to stabilize (script kept adjusting frequency of each stick. May switch to Raspi.

Anything that is running anything other than Windows 10, you're going to get better results. These devices make a fairly intensive use of USB traffic, and both timing and packet size are particular. Win10 for some reason hoses up or in other ways abandons the standard ways of doing things so traffic patterns are a lot less deterministic and that makes things choke.

Model 4 with 4gb ram, honestly seems overkill. It consumes hardly any ram.

I have quite a few raspi's, just noticed I have a 4 w/4gb RAM. Setting up now for CGminer. any Tips for loading software? Are you running an injected version or running Noobs w/installed CGminer?

I just ran raspian and install cgminer like the post on the first page says. It was a very simple process. I however have the gekkohub also. I wouldn't plug the miner directly into the raspberry pi.

I'll give it a go, TY.

**UPDATE**

Raspi 4 All setup, took some tweaking but got it running with All 5 Newpac's.

Currently running 200Mhz @45Ghs/s per stick.

You want to be careful you don’t pop your usb hub when OCing. I’m running mine 6x newpacs at 625m on the gekko hub and wouldn't go any higher as I could well cause some damage (and thats after sidehack tried to make it as bulletproof as possible). No idea how that anker 60w is laid out. Just something to keep in mind  Wink

So I have been running 5 Sticks 400 Mhz @87 Gh/s. All on a Raspberry Pi 4 4gb.... Zero Issues.

I have to believe that it was Windows 10 causing Zombie effect. Has yet to happen on Pi.

And I can remote in.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend Windows 10 to anyone who doesn't like paying too much for crappy bloated software that also spies on you.
