Final round of qualification matches are ongoing in CONCACAF. In less than 30 minutes, we will get to know who will qualify from this confederation. Costa Rica is leading by 2-0 against the United States, but most likely the US will secure direct qualification and CR will be playing in the inter-confederation playoffs. Mexico is leading by the same margin against El Salvador. Canada vs Panama match is irrelevant, because the former has already qualified for the world cup. One slot remains open from UEFA. Will be taken up by one of these three countries - Ukraine, Scotland or Wales.

Qualification for CONCACAF is quite easy and interesting. Surprise, surprise, surprise! However, Costa Rica still suffers despite winning the match 2-0. It will be a World Cup for the USMNT at this point. Mexico has also booked their place at Qatar 2022. Could they make it through the knockout rounds? Considering Mexico and the US are inconsistent, both countries will not make much progress, but you never know who may show up. I'd like to see the USA vs. Brazil.

Costa Rica may still manage to qualify. 29 out of the 32 slots for the 2022 World Cup have been finalized by now. One playoff slot from UEFA remains to be decided (postponed due to the war in Ukraine). Apart from that, the two remaining playoff matches are:

1. AFC v CONMEBOL: Winner of (Australia vs UAE) vs Peru
2. CONCACAF v OFC: Costa Rica vs New Zealand

As you can see, it is still possible for Costa Rica to play in the main tournament. After all, New Zealand is a very weak team IMO.

So, there are three tickets left for the championship, the owners of which we will find out in June:

Peru - UAE / Australia

Costa Rica - New Zealand

Wales - Scotland / Ukraine

I must say that the first two pairs seem to me more interesting, since these are not the teams that regularly play each other, so the games will have a large element of novelty and confrontation between different schools of football. At the moment I have no idea who is the favorite here.

I agree that the first two matches are interesting. Just going by FIFA ranking Peru and Costa Rica are favored to win by some margin, but it's a single knockout game an morale and motivation could be high by their opponents. Also those games will be hosted in Qatar in June. I wonder if the climate conditions will affect the teams in any way. If UAE beats Australia they could get an advantage here against Peru. New Zealand might also not be very accustomed to hot climate.

Portugal have made it to the World Cup by defeating North Macedonia maybe but I wonder how successful they will be there. I don't think that they will be reaching the finale maybe but let's just see. The Poland - Sweden matchup was really crucial and both of them had a similar chance to advance to the World Cup. But Poland succeeded in it by 2-0. This wasn't a good welcome to Zlatan maybe but it is still good to see him back. As long as Poland have Lewandowski, they will continue to be a decent team too.

North Macedonia's victory over Italy was purely a factor of luck where they faced Portugal could not do much so they had to lose and failed to advance to the Qatar world cup this year, where Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends managed to beat the surprise team with a score of 2- 0 where two goals from Bruno Fernandes succeeded in sending Portugal to the world cup, while Poland managed to get rid of Sweden with the same score, namely 2-0 and made Sweden have to bury their dream of this year's world cup, where Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not do much for his team at this time. face

Big moment it will be for some countries, first Qatar who are host and also their first opportunity at the world cup. For Argentina and Portugal in same Pot 1, it means we will not be seeing Ronaldo and Messi play against each other in the early stages of the competition.

For the Ukrainian team who have demanded to be allowed remain in the draw, it will be interesting to see who they first come up against and who the crowd will support.

For the African champions, Senegal, they've been on phenomenal form, it will be interesting to see who they first come up against and how far they can go.

It is said that unlike other world cup competitions we have seen, people will be able to watch more games as the stadiums to be used are not so far away from each other and just within a 55mile radius. So for anyone traveling to doha for a live experience, this is great news.

Have to say, Pot 4 does look at first glance like a Pot 4, but Pots 1 through to 3 appear to me as having some imposters.

If the pots weren't due to performance, I'd mix them up slightly differently:

Qatar, while they have actually been secretly been squad building, and giving me good returns in past betting, of course as host will feel they deserve their seeding. Portugal I'd trade for Netherlands or Germany. I'd definitely push USA down to Pot 3 in exchange for Senegal or South Korea.

Based on existing regulations, only Qatar which has automatically been in group A, apart from Qatar, all clubs will be drawn to get the division of groups A to H later, the draw based on FIFA rankings of course will have the potential to present a hell group later, especially Germany which is in in the second pot it is possible to meet superior teams such as argentina, brazil and also france who are in the pot 1, but fortunately for england they can avoid opponents who are indeed difficult for them like brazil, france, and argentina because indeed they are in the seeded pot, I hope England will be able to find an easy opponent in the group divisions later although maybe they will potentially join Germany.

Fifa has already decided that from the world cup in 2026 and after that there will be 48 participants and not 32 as they are now. To be honest i don't really like that change. I mean yes of course that way more countries get a chance to be participate in the world cup but that also means that the average quality of the teams participating and therefore also the average quality of the matches played will be lower as with 32 teams. It is already known withing the football world that the european championship has a higher quality of teams and matches than the world cup because in the end the strongest national teams are in Europe. Outside of Europe there are only Brazil and Argentina that have realistic chances of winning a world cup title.

Yep, there are even some players who speak and are quite opposed to this because the reasons are quite clear, the more teams in the group phase, the more matches there are which will be very good to see but the players will be tired of this because of course this drains a lot of energy and time needed not to mention thinking about matches at their respective clubs even though it does take place every few years but still this is something that has been debated until now

Yes, Europe does have too many teams. There needs to be more of a balance. I understand that if you picked the strongest 32 teams in the world, a lot would be European. But it's a world cup and should have a lot more participants from other continents. And if there were fewer European teams, it would make European qualification more exciting.
