Two days ago, the Super Falcons beat Cameroon 1 nil to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. The game was heated with a lot of action, at some point there was a heated argument between the players as the Cameroonians calamine’s that the Super Falcons goalkeeper was using vodoo to deflect their shots, which I think is funny btw. I can’t find the thread for this discussion or is there no interest in the Super falcons?

It's sad to say, that the Super Eagle coach has decided to quit being the national team head coach.

The news of this, is made known today through his Twitter handle. In other words, best wishes to him in his future endeavors as a head coach of any country that comes for him to be their head coach

I honestly I so much like this coach , with the performance of the super eagles in the concluded AFCON it tells he was a good coach that helped the team to go a long way in the AFCON to get to the finals. The coach performed better than the previous coach in the last AFCON in 2022. One thing I observe about this coach he was able to form a good bond with players and it really helped the team  in doing well in the AFCON tournament.

The super eagles needs a good coach that is competent that can strengthen the team more for the world cup because in the past for a longtime the problem of the team, no good coach to manage the team to bring out the best in them. The super eagles deserves the best because in the past i always enjoy their games, so interesting.

Jose Peseiro’s contract has come to an end, I would expect the NFL to have a short list of managers they want to replace him. Have a meeting with these managers to know which is the best fit for the national team. Putting a public advertisement on Facebook for a coach is embarrassing, it shows they do not know what they want. They are obviously not looking to get a top manager.

NFF hasn't told us Nigerians what led to them not renewing Jose Peseiro's contract but prefers to call out for a new coach on Facebook, leaving a good coach that has taken them to the AFCON finals which they haven't reached for long.

I find this move by NFF to be displeasing and not properly taken. How can they have a good coach and allow him to go, only to begin to search for a new coach while the good one they have was let go without holding back.

Nigeria leaders in various ministries are also showing some level of incompetence in whatever that they are doing. How can you imagine placing an advert vacancy of looking for a coach on FB. This shows a low mental thinking of whoever is in charge of getting a new coach. It means that any Dick and Harry can claim to be a coach and they will accept him.

Is it that they want to local coach from Nigeria with no experience, or corruption ha e made them not to think of getting a high quality coach to do the job, because they want to also keep some part of the money for paying the coach to themselves, because I know that the president will give them any amount to pay for a new coach. If they know that this coach that took Nigeria to the finals who no longer continue with the job, they should ha e looked for a coach before he leaves. We are talkin about a coach that will take Nigeria to the world cup and not AFCON, so why on FB.

Amongst the applicants for the job of the manager of the Super Eagles is Samson Siasia and Salisu Yusuf. The first was found guilty of collecting bribes to field certain players in a match and the other is guilty of being part of a conspiracy to fix a football match.  I don’t think these guys qualify for the job of Super Eagles manager. Salisu Yusuf was a good manager in his day, but we need more than performance in a national team coach, we expect credibility and character. I’m afraid Samson Siasia and Salisu Yusuf lack this two traits.

They had a contract with the coach and had a target for him to meet which was to win the African Cup of Nations but since he did not meet the target it means the contracts cannot continue. This should be the reason why the Nigerians Football Federation has let the coach go so another coach can try.
I find this move by NFF to be displeasing and not properly taken. How can they have a good coach and allow him to go, only to begin to search for a new coach while the good one they have was let go without holding back.
Jose Poseiro was not exactly very good, but he was okay and a coach that they could build a trophy winning super eagles team with. They would have given him some more time.
Whoever the next choice is, there will be a lot of expectations.

The super eagles coach was hired for obvious reasons which was to win the Nations cup so since he couldn't achieve the terms of the contract hence NFF seeking for another coach but to me, despite the agreement of the contract they would have still given him more time to continue with the eagles because he made huge difference during the AFCON competition and giving him more time would have made him take the super eagles to a certain length.

Towards April, The NFF will announce the new coach of the Super Eagles out of the 20 coaches within and outside that have declared interest in the job of becoming the newly selected Super Eagles coach.

Just a run down on the medal table; Egypt is currently taking the load with 167 medals already and Nigeria is at the second position with 90 medals in the bad followed by south africa who currently at the third position.

Here is the table as it stands.

I am following it up, but this is not the best place to discuss it. @OP

Maybe you did not notice it, but this thread is for discussion involving African football, not just all African sports.

Finidi George is a great player, and I believe that he will be able to coach his team with the experience that he has gained throughout his career in football.

Congratulations to him.

Finidi George is a great player, and I believe that he will be able to coach his team with the experience that he has gained throughout his career in football.
He has his first chance today to show that he can handle the job, Nigeria play Ghana in a friendly game, and although it is a friendly game, it will not be a good start for Finidi George if the super eagles loose this first game with him as manager.

Nigeria and Ghana have this rivalry between them, the players will take the game seriously.

I like that the new coach was once a player for the National team, his level of patriotism will be high.

The friendly match between Nigeria and Ghana ended in 2-1 in favor of Super Eagles. It was just a beautiful start that Finidi George had his ways of coaching the Super Eagles to be victorious in their first friendly match since the resignation of Jose Peseiro as head coach and Finidi George taking over as assistant coach to lead Super Eagles against Ghana and Mali in friendly matches.

One more match(Mali) to go to test Finidi George's proficiency as an assistant coach, as he has won a match for Super Eagles against Ghana, remaining Mali.

If my memory serves me right, this particular coach was recommended by Jose Mourinho so I knew he would help the Nigerian international squad go far. Though, I believe in my heart that most of his selections where not completely his and that the Nigerian Football Federation had a hand in his selection in the African Cup of Nations.
He did well but not winning the finals was no excuse they could condone. Besides they had agreement that it would be this way.

Bringing in Finidi George who's from Port Harcourt? And knows the NFF very well makes sense. I hope he brings in home based players into the squad to blend them with International and club side players this is the same way Cameroon being trying to rebrand and rebuild their squad for the next world cup Competitions.

Finidi has also just won his first game in fine style, I hope he lands the job permanently..

It’s true José Mourinho recommended José Peseiro for the job. But that information only came to light just before the AFCON finals when José Mourinho was asked in an interview about the CAF competitions and he mentioned his relationship with the Super Eagles coach and wished him luck winning the finals.

The NFF should learn to support local talent. I don’t know why Amaju Pinnick will travel around the world to find Nigerians living to diaspora to come play for the home team when we have a functioning league here in Nigeria. I hope whoever becomes the next Super Eagles manager will be allowed the freedom to bring in players they want. Part of the problem we had in the just concluded AFCON was that we had more foreign based players than local talents and there was no sync between the players.

I agree with you, part of the problem we have always had in the national team was the inability of the coaches to make use of the home based players to play matches, are the coaches to blame i guess no because we understand that there powerful men in the team that's always responsible for the name and number of players that should be invited 5o the team to play in any competition. Looking at the last performance of the Nigerian players in the last AFCON, it was obvious that there was lack of communication among the players which resulted to the woeful performance of the team. On a second thought the performance of the home based players can't be trusted because looking at the performance of Victor and Ademola Lookman you can't get a better than them in the home based team so the coach will always want to have more professional players in his team.

The new coach for the Nigerian team should have a full mixture of home based players and international players in the team so that he can create balance. Having too many home based players may make the team become inexperienced and then having too many international players will make the team to not feel as patriotic as they should if they were all based players at home. The Nigerian team won their friendly against the Ghanaian side today and for a new coach that is a new victory to first celebrate.

I watched the friendly game between the black stars of Ghana vs the Super Eagles of Nigeria earlier today and from the performance of the Nigeria team, I think they're still improving and the tactical approaches of the interim Coach of the Super Eagles suggests that he actually knows what he's doing with the team and I think it'll not be a bad idea for the NFF to permanent his contract with with Super Eagles even when it seems I know they still have to watch him for little while before making their final decision concerning Finidi George.
Whenever Ghana is playing against their West African neighbors Nigeria, it's always an action packed game even when it just a friendly game just of the bragging rights the fans of both countries. Nigeria were simply the better team but I think Ghana would've done better in the second half of their player wasn't sent off
