The interesting thing about this is that Nigeria can go into the knockout and single-eliminatuon stages and win with flying colors when you least expect them to. I have been talking about it but someone on this thread said we're just being negative but in hindsight, Nigeria has only gotten to the knockout phase by the grace of God. Nothing more. Zero tactics, very terrible game plays have been core attributes of Nigeria's journey in the 2023 Afcon.

Well, that's not the main talking point for today. Egypt qualification and Ghana going back home + Ivory Cost thumping earlier today is.
Undoubtedly, the Super Eagles are the luckiest team in the AFCON. Their performance is not the best and yet they have managed to scale through to the next round. My fear is that luck/grace does not guarantee success in these competitions, we have to be prepared for the next round. Most of the countries in Africa do not have star players, but what they do have is a team. Nigeria do not play as a team and it’s very obvious.

I am afraid many national teams like Nigeria will be super lucky in this competition!
I mean look at Egypt and how they are doing. Imagine 3 draws and they got qualified!
Algeria, Tunisia and Cameroon might qualify too after bad results they got. Ivory Coast and Ghana will wait for the other groups to confirm or not their qualifications. I am pretty disappointed about these clubs and no wonder why they can't advance far in World Cup.

I think I this year African cup of nations, we have seen the worst performance from the the top teams with rich history in the competition, just take a look at ivory coast the host nations, they are already out as it stance, they are now just hoping and praying to be among the best losers.

How will cape Verde island top a group that have the likes Pharos of Egypt and the black 🌟 star of Ghana? The both top teams have performed really badly according to their level in African football, and the Ghanaian national team have been the worst of them all, only 2 point in possible 9, in their own case the are entirely out. With the way the top teams are playing in this competition I think their is more surprising result coming, because Nigerian performance haven't been good either, they are just good at grinding out results, even though their performance have been relatively poor, lets just watch out for the other top guys to look how they are going to perform today and tomorrow.

Most teams here are just banking on past glory, and not present effectiveness. You're disappointed at the Ivorian, Ghana, Egyptian and Nigerian teams because you're  likening their present performance to the times of Drogba, Kalou, Essien, Mikel,Onazi, Okocha and the rest of them good boys of old times. I advise you tho wake up to the reality that beseech you, those era are going forever and African football its taking a new revolution now that is surprising almost everybody.

Most players that were expected to be instrumental in their team success, who  play at higher professional leagues are rather disappointing everybody recently. Countries who have history of good game play are being humbled currently. Its the football revolution bro, kindly keep your fingers crossed, and see how it unfolds.

I was also expecting like this Egypt is going to say goodbye after end of this match because things were not looking good for them in first half and end of half with trailing by 1–0 was surely heartbroken for the fans as well but super substitute done his job quickly and bring Egypt back at the level with Cape Verde now after 50th minute game we are having score of 1–1 for the both teams 29 years old Trezeguet score and now most chances we are going to have another winner from them as hopes are high for the better end of them in this season, and they can fight back from here for the next round as well.
In this season we have few surprises which is clearly showing how things are taking changes and teams are improving their quality which is giving them better results and consistency which is important for the all countries in this cup.
The annoying part of this tournament is that the big teams are playing like they aren't prepared to perform and like they need much motivation. For crying out loud, this is the biggest tournament in Africa, it's like our own Euro nations cup but what are we seeing? The hosts get kicked out after they graced us with less than satisfactory football and most of the big teams that qualified in Group A and B were by a hair's breath. Nigeria were just so lucky to qualify cause I didn't see anything they played that should say they deserve it.
Funny part is these teams have managed to move to the next round; Nigeria, Egypt and Cape Verde. Let's see if that's where the party will stop or they've still got surprises in store for us.

How the Black stars let loose of their guard and got eliminated is still not clear to me because the black stars are usually seen in how the pride in their prowess in African football, as at the 70rh minute of the game, they still had a chance of qualifying to the round of sixteen but the forgot that it's not over until it actually is, they became reluctant since they were already lead a weak side by two goals a d to their greatest surprised they ended the game not been able to qualify for the next rounds of the game.

It's really fun back here in the AFCON because I don't know what else to call it if not fun to the fact that the teams presumed as bigger are now acting weak and even getting eliminated, even the super eagles the home of the current African best player isn't fantastic with their performance.

What you shouldn't be surprise at is changes. Changes is constant irrespective of any scenario, The players that do play then are not the same players that are playing now and that is what we should understand. These current players have already made name in their clubs and they don't care about making their country proud by playing with passion for their country, maybe it is because the countries in question don't value this players that much compare to the way their clubs value them.

It is a shame that big countries that have made history in AFCON are not seeing the competition as something that they worth winning, if not they will pit in their best performance to make sure that they win their matches, or is it that they didn't spend enough time training and playing together.

Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria Match. See how Nigeria disgrace themselves in the field, Nigeria could not score one goal in this match. They won the match with Home Goal and look the Equatorial Guinea won the host of the tournament Ivory Coast hand down without complain with clean goals. Nigeria was struggling to win. If Nigeria play like this in their knockout stage then I doubt they can scale through because those remaining teams are not struggling like the Super Eagles but playing well teams.

Therefore Nigeria cannot survive in the knockout stage in the tournament. I was expecting Nigeria to win 5 - 0 but one goal they didn't score.
I have to be agreed with you, in this event I have watch few teams are performing terrible even expectations were high, but we have no positive things from them and few teams are giving their best which was not expected, but all is happening like now Nigeria is ending their group stage matches with 2 wins and one draw which bring them second in this group which is still acceptable for them, but they need to increase their performance if they want to have good chance for the win otherwise things can bring them down Osimhen is not having performance which bring him one of the best in the world hopefully we will have his best in coming matches which bring good improvement for them and their chances also increase for the win of the title.

what a dreadful performance! The embarrassing exit is hard to swallow. Two quick goals in added time shattered the dreams of the Black Stars. While they still have a slim chance to qualify, this time they don't seem to deserve it for any reason.
Mozambique once again goes unnoticed, defying expectations as if it were not part of the African continent. The underdog beating the heavyweight clearly shows that no team is above being undefeated. Many average teams have drastically improved, and no team has a 100% probability of winning. This is by far the best AFCON ever. It keeps you on your toes until the last minute, and you never know what will happen next. The predictions, about 99% of them, have proven to be strongly wrong.

iam not believe ivory coast with good player good team with much play in europe.
lost from Equatorial Guinea 4-0.
and should be eliminated from the african afcon cup.
The most annoying part is that Ivory coast are the host nation and they got disgraced in front of their home fans. Although EQG is a strong side judging from their display in the last Afcon tournament, they were good and eliminated some good teams back then. When this tournament started I knew that EQG was a team to watch out for and unfortunately Ivory coast didn't take them that serious, thinking that they were the underdog.

It was a big disgrace to the government of Ivory coast yesterday for allowed such coach to coach their players in this season because, there is no single good performance from their first game that made them to lose against super eagles 0:1 and they still lose against Equatorial Guinea 4:0 without allowed them to score a goal.

No doubt that ivory coast will not make this coach to continue coaching their team again than to start looking for potential coach that will take over from him.

This year African Cup of Nations came with alot of surprises. Many people did not expect these surprises and especially seeing the big names in Africa as long as football is concerned crashing out of the group stage of the tournament. Who had expected that the Black Stars will exit from the group match. How about Cameronian team that was humiliated by Senegal. Although, Senegal is the defending champion. The case of the Ivorians is another big case to ponder about. The more these countries realises that Drogba and his teammates are no longer in the Ivory coast team, Samuel Eto and his team mates are no longer incharge of the Cameronian team, there are no likes of Stephen Appiah, Essien and Gyan in the Ghanian team, the better for them. It is high time the country begins to breed another set of patrotic footballers to make them great again. For the case of Nigerian Super Eagles, I don't know what to say. They have not been performing excellently and their strikers not scoring goals but yet they have qualified from the group match. Let's see how their next matches will be.

Obviously, Drogba was as mad as Samuel Eto or even more mad than Eto. It was a huge disgrace to Ivory coast that a country which could be considered as a non football nation humiliated them in their father land right in front of their home fans (mothers and fathers). Will there ever be next time?

Why are you dragging their government into this? I know the pain of host nation being eliminated in the group stage of the tournament as big this AFCON in Africa but I don't think it has anything to do with their government. Besides, this is not the first things like this is happening. In 1984, Ivory Coast hosted the AFCON and was eliminated in the group stage. The truth about this tournament is that couches are not to be blame but the players. All these players have no intention of giving their best to their respective national teams, they prefer to run to Europe and after they'll be shouting racism when they are the cause.

I didn't watch their game yesterday but their first match was quite a good performance and likewise their game against Nigeria. They dominated the match but unluckily, the odds was against them and Nigeria won by a penalty. It's just the nature of football because we all see how Nigeria struggles with this Equatorial Guinea and ended up playing draw. If we are to talk about performance, I think Nigeria will be center of discussion. In fact, how Nigeria qualified with such performance is still surprising. People whose game plan is may God help us and nothing tactical.

The government of ivory coast shouldn't be embarrassed because this is the game of football and in the game of football anything can happen, it doesn't matter if you are the host nation or not,  I can imagine how you already hipping the blames already on the coach of the national team when the players are the ones that haven't proven to be better players.

If you say you want to sack the coach for non-performance, would you also say that you will sack the entire players of ivory coast too for non-performance?, because no matter how technical or tactical plan a coach will bring up, if the players don't execute as he has planned everything will always turn out to be bad result, so my point is that, the players too have a lot of blame to share as well as the coach.

It's a big slap on their face because I thought they could have prepared since they are the one hosting but unfortunately they disappointed me because even they will be out it shouldn't be in this manner that they lose two matches, with result I consider this competition as a free and fear, I thought yesterday match will be in favour of them but even though they plan it, it can't work due to their performance, I think the best thing for them is to sack the coach if really they want to make it to the next competition.

I don't see the Super Eagle as the the most luckiest in my own opinion though. The Super Eagle players got one of the best players or a team that can be considered with one of the best players in the AFCON right now with the likes of Victor Osimhen who is one of the top players in the Serie A and the newly crowned African footballer of the year, redhot Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester city, Samuel Chukwueze of AC Milan and the Nigerian star player Ahmed Musa in the forward.

We also have the likes of Alex Iwobi of Fulham, Frank Onyeka of Brentford and Aribo of Southampton FC in the midfield of the Super Eagle squad. We also have a great list of players in the defense including Ekong, Bassey and Zaidu Sanusi of FC Porto.

I mean these are very strong chemistry of players that are doing incredibly in the club side and I should not see the Super Eagle as the luckiest despite the weak performance they have exhibited over the competition. I would rather see Equatorial Guinea as the luckiest with their performance in the group A. Even though we didn't really see them going far, they have won their matches with great goal  difference after their draw with Nigeria. One is confident that they will do better in their next fixturing against Tunisia.

It all depends on your definition luck. But if I may say, I will align with Pokapoka124 that Nigeria is among the luckiest if not the luckiest in this tournament. Nigeria came with some world class and quality players, there's no doubt about that. But the question is that, is the quality of the squad reflecting in their game play? The answer is pure No. You didn't mention all the big names, there's Simon Mosses, there's Lukeman and even the ones that didn't come to the tournament like Sadiq and Boniface. But the chemistry is not there among these top players. We should expect these guys should score alot of goals but rather they just managed to score only 1 goal of their own, the others goals were gotten indirectly.

These men (Equ Guinea) are not lucky, rather they are wonderful. Use your English well. You cannot tell me that a team that score 8 goals in 2 matches and eliminated the strong host is lucky. They are simply amazing.

Cameron vs Gambia match has started about 34 minutes ago let wait and see what Cameroon can do against Gambia, because they need to win this match for them to qualify to round 16 and if they didn't put much pressure on them and win the match they will be a problem. Because even that draw against Gambia they won't qualify to the round 16, since they only get 1point.

As of now while I am typing this comment, they are in a half time and not Cameroon or Gambia have scored a goal, both team are still goalless, so, let's see what the second half would do.

Personally, I expect Cameroon to win the match, but then, the possiblity of a draw is still very high, and also, Gambia may decide to surprise us by finding their way into winning the match, but this I highly doubt will happen since they have not being able to win any of their previous matches, and the Cameroon team are playing quite good, so I expect Cameroon to come out victorious, or a draw.

iam not believe ivory coast with good player good team with much play in europe.
lost from Equatorial Guinea 4-0.
and should be eliminated from the african afcon cup.
Well you are not the only who is suprised, I mean it never would have occured to anyone that the host nation of the competition and also a power house in this competition would lose out to equatorial guinea by this huge goal of a margin. There is one thing I noticed about this time AFCON competition and that's the huge amount of goals that is being scored, it's almost as if am watching the champions league group stage matches filled with lots of goals .
