Mail beat Nigeria 2goals to nil yesterday. I was able to watch the game online though it started late in the night. The tiki taka style of football is not for the Super Eagles. We played well but didn’t take our chances, it was very much disappointing. We have tough games coming up in the World Cup qualifiers, I hope the NFF can hire a coach as soon as possible.

I will first have to ask if the Nigerian match against Mali last night was a friendly match or a qualifier. I didn't view the match but I read the commentary and went through the statistics. Something was so strange. Although Nigeria lost but the Nigerian players have individual good rating more than the Mali players. This gave me the impression that Nigeria dominated the match.

But if I am NFF (employer), the coach that took the team to the finals of the AFCON did well and should be retained. I don't know for others shaa.

It was just a friendly game luckily for us, so the loss will not cost us anything only prestige. If Nigerian players still had a good rating even though they lost, it can be interpreted that their performance was not all bad, and lost the game because of mistakes.

But if I am NFF (employer), the coach that took the team to the finals of the AFCON did well and should be retained. I don't know for others shaa.
Are we still talking about this? Poseiro had a deal with NFF, and he was not able to meet up with the target, this is why NFF are making another deal with another, with another target set. I do not hate the idea of a local coach.

It was a friendly game. Yes we dominated the game but we were not clinical to covert the chances we had. One of the goals conceded was as a result of an silly error by the defense, which is ironic because in the African Cup of Nations tournament, the Super Eagles defense was very tight.

Nigerians did not take too well to Peseiro’s style of football. We wanted goals and tricks and Peseiro was more of a strategic manager. He understood that the team had a better chance of winning the tournament if they played defensively and that was his strategy that got us to the finals. His contract has ended, there is no need to cry over spoilt milk. We need a new manager.

I also like the idea of a having a local coach as the manager of the national team because I believe then we can see players coming in from the NPL to join the Super Eagles. Looking at the way things are going, I suspect the NFF do not have any plans to get a coach. As much as we criticize Amaju Pinnick, we could at least see the activity on this part, this new administration seem to be lacking enthusiasm and determination.

it's bad that we've not really worked on playing well at the defence level without ekong standing thier to do his work. Both the goal scores during the game against Ghana and that scored during this last game against mali are both confusion from the part of the defenders which wouldn't have happened if ekong was at the defence line.

Ekong has almost reached the stage he would be bidding farewell to the eagles and a strong and matured replacement should have already been in place that will man up to that responsibility. It's true by individual stand point, the super eagles have players with better ranking but you know that doesn't directly translate to a win right? You've got to prove to your opponent team that you're worth the hype and they will definitely come as an undercover and once you don't make best use of your chances, you get punished big time for for it.

I agree with you that instead of going for a foreign low rated coaches, we should use our best skilled coaches for the job. The fact is that Nigerians do not appreciate anything locale, because they like to underestimate themselves. It is not by getting a foreign coach but it is to get a foreign coach that can get the work done.

On the other hand, if they cannot afford a foreign coach, let them go for a local coach. One thing that I see is the challenge of having a local coach is that, the coach can easily be manipulated by NFF officials, but it is hard for them to decide for a foreign coach on what he should do.
The believe is that the Oyibo are more skillful than the black because of their performance in the club side matches and rating. One of the problem the Nigerian Super Eagles is facing is Coach. There was a time they changed about 3 coaches within one year.  They changed in world cup and in the Nations Cup and and in friendly Match. And the second problem is the politics that is inside the NFF is too high so even though they use local coach, they would not pay him well like the foreign coach, and envy would not allow the next person to coach the players well. And if really the local coach are well trained, they are doing well in the football industry. We discriminate ourselves in every corner.

this is so true. It's very deficult for the average Nigerian leader to remove politics out of what they are doing and that's why it's deficult for a local coach to do well in our national team. The white take football very professional and give the coaches and players the right treatment that puts them in the right state of mind to put in their best into training and playing for thier nation but that's not what is obtainable with most African teams. We don't value our own and are not interested in investing into our local coaches to see what they can offer to the national team. Some might have even written them off than no local team can take the eagles far in a serious competition. The world cup is fast approaching and before then it won't be a thing of surprise that a foreign  coach will be the one that will lead the team to the tournament.

You sound like you know African coaches more than we do but Nigeria to be specific is different. Their own coaches have tried but we didn't have much result and that's the reason why the federation always seek for foreign alternatives. The last one that coached the super eagles wasn't too perfect but I must say that he deserves some accolades for taking super eagles to the Afcon final, it been a long time since we went there and he resign the moment his contract expire.

As a Nigerian, it's not easy to manage their players, the fans don't give much attention to their match but when the see that you are making some progress, they give you 100% of their support just like the way we they did during the Afcon but what they don't tolerate is failure, they will come for you and you wouldn't like it. The forget immediately that football is just entertainment.
Football is not magic, so expecting instant results will always be a mirage. Africans don't have regard or believe in local coaches. Nigeria has many FIFA-certified coaches who can do better than foreign coaches but we prefer to employ lowly-rated Europeans to take charge of clubs. My problem is not that Africans are employing foreign coaches but they don't attract the best. Brazil was considering bringing in Carlo Ancelotti to take over the national team but we only go for outdated out-of-job coaches. Some people might say that African countries might not be able to afford the wage bill of these world-class coaches, so the best option should be to go for local coaches.

We say what happened in the just concluded African Cup of Nations where Ivory Coast sacked coach Jean-Louis Gasset and replaced him with a relatively inexperienced and unknown coach Emerse Fae. We say how this former national team player motivated his side to win the trophy. In the last edition, it was Aliou Cissé an African coach who led Senegal to victory. I don't know any African coach who has to coach any European national team. We need to allow our local coach to grow, for me, George Finidi should be given the chance to prove himself. He should have the time to build the Super Eagles.
From the onset, Africans don't value their own, they prefer hiring the services of a foreign coach to make use of their own. I don't know why we Africans are feeling less of ourselves not to make use of our own and to be proud of it

This brings back the memory of Stephen Keshi(may his soul rest in peace), and how he led the Super Eagles from 2011-2015, he even made them win the 2013 AFCON and led them to qualify for the World Cup Qualification.

I believe there are other good coaches like him, the NFF can find within but they won't like to give such coaches a chance to lead the Super Eagles to World Cup Qualifications. At the end of this, they will go for a foreign coach and keep Finidi George aside.

The last Nigerian coach really tried a lot, I feel he did a very good job bringing us to the finals of the AFCON despite the team last and worst performance in the finals. Not underestimating our own but in most cases the whites are more tactically better than our Nigerian coach, we Africans play more on physicality than tactically and it has resulted to many loses, but if we are to go deep down we might as well see few Nigerian coaches that will do much better than the foreigners. In the aspect of the NFF manipulating coaches, it can aswell happen with the foreigners, because it will become a deal bringing him to serve as the head coach and if the person is not ready to allign with their terms they drop the person and look for someone else who is ready to accept their conditions.

My own point is that. The white takes things too professional. Professional in the sense that they don't do sentimental things. Like favoritism, tribalism and stuff like that. When it comes to smartness or intelligence, i won't conclude that they are more intelligent or smart int terms of coaching in football. There are many African coaches who are talented coaches, and they can manage any team, but they lack concentration to take the career serious. However, with time they will be able to understand that being a coach in the international level could make a difference in the way we see Arican football competitions. Just like when we are talking about African referees in the international lee. But now it's a normal thing to see African referees that is a professional.

I agree on the fact that Nigerians in particular do not value their coaches in the past. But don't forget we had a coach in the super eagle who is from Nigeria, and he did so well. I think it is the government that do not value football in the country.

It does not really matter if it is a local coach or if it is an international coach, Nigeria just needs to find a good coach and then learn to keep them, not chase them just when they are beginning to get comfortable with the team.  Nigeria should try to learn from other African countries like Cameroon and Senegal that have had one coach for a very long time, and although these coaches do not always deliver a satisfactory result, they have still been retained by the country.

I don't think that the white coach would be given any condition, apart from for him to make sure that he is able to coach the players for them to be the winner or go far, and that if this is not achieved, he will be sacked, after the competition.

Since NFF wants him to do his best, they will not tell him on the players to select for the competition i.e which players to use a d not to use. Rather the white coach will make his selections himself, and NFF officials would have little or nothing to say. However, if it is a Nigerian coach, since he will respect them, they can even choose players for him, and use nepotism to select players. All these things about politics is what is killing Nigeria football.

Do you think you will get to see changes in our Nigerian football? Most of the coaches we have used in the team are not allowed to select the players they want rather they are given the list of the players to be invited and the ones to be taken from the local leagues by the oga's which you and I don't know,  the reason why the foreign based coaches are usually selected to lead the Nigerian team is not because our Nigerian coaches can't do job but it is because the Nigerian coaches will expose the evil in the team if he is been pressured to much or when the players he has been given us not getting the right results he will likely open up so that the blame won't be on him. Our football can only get better if politics is laid aside and a capable hands is brought to the team as a head coach be it a foreigner or a home based coach.

There was a time they changed about 3 coaches within one year.  They changed in world cup and in the Nations Cup and and in friendly Match.
Changing of coach frequently can really affect the performance of a team, every coach has a strategy and it takes time for players to get use to a coach  and bringing in new coaches in a space of short time will kill the performance of the team. When players get used to the strategy of a coach it makes the teams performance to be solid, we can see thst I teams like Manchester City,  Real Madrid and Liverpool. It is important for them to look for a good coach that is competent,  that will last for sometime and help the team to achieve trophies. Going for quality coach is just the best than going for coach that are not experienced one.

it's bad that we've not really worked on playing well at the defence level without ekong standing thier to do his work.

Well the AFCON has ended and Peseiro’s contract too was reaching its end and as such I don’t think the NFF were ready to renew due to reasons best known to them. Still we must commend Jose for how tactical he was and his tactics even though we want to criticize we can’t deny the fact that it helped us to this final of the NFF.

Yes, we can see how much he’s helped us and yes we can’t keep crying over spilled milk as now we must fave the reality of needing a new coach that will help take us to the World Cup. Any coach with less standard than Jose will not be acceptable because this boys have now risen above average and need to either maintain it or go above par.

The goals we conceded in the matches against Ghana and Mali were really uncalled for and it showed how much our defense line isn’t organized and this is one big issue the mew coach will have to address. Ekong is out on injury and we saw how much he commanded and guarded the defense line of the Super Eagles during the tournament and now in the 2 matches without him, we’ve conceded some crazy goals that shows how sluggish our defense line is.

Super Eagles will need to re strategize as their opponents are now scared of them especially after theIR AFCON feat and they ought to still maintain that standard so as to still keep soaring. I’ll also want the football body to get a new coach on time as that will help in him being able to select the right team to do his job and deliver on his tactics.

If the NFF are the one's to choose the foreign coach, don't you think they will find a means to compromise with the coach, we Nigerians are not bad at negotiating just to get what we want. Winning a game is something which both the coach and players are required to put in their best interest, we can see so far from our previous matches played our players performed not too good to the extent I really felt we need to improve if not we would not be any champions or qualify. Talking about the squads to make things happen we have them all but what we need is composure from both players in the field and coaches.

It seems the NFF are not going to break the tradition of employing foreign managers to head the Super Eagles. It is reported that the NFF are eyeing Herve Renar for the managerial job of the Super Eagles which means Finidi George was just used as a temporary solution and the NFF are clearly not considering him for the job even if he is doing well in that role.

Sincerely, I think that having a foreign coach for the super Eagles is one way the players have got to be their best and show class in all their outings.
The jersey designs is another one that is not a joke to the players because the NFF sure understands that these players can perform better if they have a likeness to their international clubs in terms of the kind of coaching quality, kits, warfare and care packages as well as benefits.

Having a foreign coach for the super Eagles will strengthen their stand and add elevation to their current status in both African and international competitions.

That is just too bad because if we can't value our own, who will?

Congratulations to the Super Falcons for making qualification for the Paris Olympics after not being in the competition for sixteen years. The victory was not beautiful, but was enough for us to have our female football team representing us.

They are a strong team, and I believe they will do very well in the Olympics.
